Be careful with the UV curing liquid. Even cured, it would slowly degrade over time; moreso than normal plastics. And most UV curing substances are quite toxic. Not so much that I would be really concerned with short term skin contact, but just be safe.

@@chrisakaschulbus4903 really interesting question, as it is a lot harder that the plastic resin. Reasons against it out of my head: (disclaimer: not an expert) - Not liquid enough (at the dentist it seems more like a paste) - too brittle (hard usually comes with brittle) - too strong adhesion to the build plate and LCD screen (at least it sticks pretty well to my teeth) - too expensive (dentist bill? if you plan on printing some mechanical/prototype elements instead of miniatures etc. I would recommend rising layer height to some normal value like 0.1 or 0.2mm. It speeds up printing a lot and you still get a lot of details. Just remember to extend exposure time. AFAIR there was a rule to extend time by 1/3 when you double the layer height. This type of printers is slowest on z axis and you spare a lot of time if you reduce z height of the print. Good upgrade is a magnetic print plate as you can the print just flat on reducing print z height a lot. I'm just not sure how printing flat on such a big vat will wear of FEP film. For a photos s i use for few years already this works like a charm.

Yes but they're usually significantly more expensive. A liter of regular resin costs $30; special types are easily $50+. There's ABS-like, rubbery etc. You can also mix them to get mixed properties at proportions of your choosing, add coloring or particles like glitter. Regular resin is about half as tough as PETG/ABS, whereas the expensive ones come close to the same.

It's a shame the resins are so toxic. I always thought it would be cool to put a basic life support system on an astronaut then dip them into this stuff and cure them under a digitally controlled light map (brighter for ridgid parts like the head, arms and legs and less bright for parts that need to stay flexible like the joints) and bam they would have an almost instant form fitting spacesuit with no seams that could leak. Hehe, I considered including in the voiceover: 'I wonder if I will survive this...' But done right it is perfectly safe. Pointing a strong laser pointer at the shiny surface and the thick fumes from the laser spot is the thing to be careful with. Thanks for watching!

I would like printing options that don't include plastic.
@zachcrawford5
@zachcrawford5 3 жыл бұрын
You can mod a FDM printer (the kind that normally spit out a thread of molten plastic) so that the motor that normally extrudes plastic instead slowly presses on the plunger of a large syringe that feeds into a flexible tube/hose that leads to a nozzle on the print head. This allows you to print in "liquids" that harden in ambient air, like clays, chocolate or wax (with a little heating to keep it molten until it's extruded), epoxies (If you use 2 syringes), ceramics and lots more.

3D printing has evolved so much that some print in metal now. Expect a much, much higher price for the printer though... You can in stead use a printed plastic model to make a mold for casting in metal. It should be possible. Thanks for watching!

I have several videos on radioactivity ( kzbin.info/aero/PLC62CCBDABFFEBB37 ). The only way to 'clean up' a radioactive spill is to remove all stained stuff from the room and move it to a safe place and wait for the half life of the isotopes to take care of the radioactive atoms... This resin printer technology used to be very expensive but as with all technology it is getting more and more affordable. But the amount of metal needed to be sturdy with 0.01 mm precision at a plate height of up to 24.5 cm will still cost. Smaller models starts at $99 if I remember correctly.
