A friend was trying to fix one of these before Christmas and was wiggling connections while the unit was open. One of the lasers activated while aiming at one of his eyes dazzling him, but with no significant discomfort. When the vision in that eye was still a bit blurry a couple of days later he went to an eyesight specialist and was told he had damaged his retina. The vision got slightly worse as a scar formed, and he will always have diminished vision in that eye. Your brain can work around the damage, but the full functionality of the eye will never return. I wonder how many people suffer laser induced eye damage every year.
@mrdummy_nl4 жыл бұрын
I experienced that laser damage too. But it was not my fault. It happens at my school when one idiot friend thinks it's funny to use laserpointer at me (at long distance), i try move my head away fast as possible. No real loss in vision, but when i blink my eyes or look in sunglasses, i see sort of "smear" in one of my eye. If you don't focus on it, lucky no big problem most time. But it's visible there as sort of blurry line. Even in less than one second with laserpointer, the damage happened already. SO.... EVEN ITS SHORT, IT WILL ALREADY MAKE SOME DAMAGE IN EYE BEFORE YOU THINK FOR A SECOND! IT GOES VERY FAST! NEVER THINK IT'S FUNNY TO PLAY A BIT WITH SMALL LASERPOINTER!!!!!!!

Wish I could've shown this video to my managers at work. I work in retail, and they had set one of these up in the store along with the inflatable xmas decorations. But they had placed it on a raised platform in the middle of a main isle. It would laser you in the face every time you walked past it! I tried to complain about it, as it was in an area I had to walk past frequently, and hurt quite a bit even when you weren't looking directly at it. I'm surprised no customer had said anything. lol when I was in the Army I got the chance to "act" as a gunner for a M1 Abrams during training. The unit was short handed for crew members so the company commander gave up his gunner for another crew. I was a mechanic for Bradleys, which is another type of tracked vehicle. Since they were short handed they asked me if I would fill in the gunners spot. Of course I said HELLS YES! lol. The turret traverse and gun elevation controls are nearly the same as the Bradleys so I kinda knew what I was doing as far as moving the turret around. But one thing I didn't realize was hitting a certain red button would send out a lazer for range finding. Something mechanics generally never mess with. And since I was still pretty new to the Army and my job back then I had no idea that the lazer was dangerous and I just liked getting a range pop up when I hit the button lol. So there I am having a blast moving the turret around and targeting other vehicles and getting the ranges on them. Finally the TC (a Capt) tells me not to target people with the range finder. The lazer it shoots can blind people. As I was lazing another guys helmet lmao! I was like: Yeah of course! Pshhh who would do that? As I quickly moved the turret sights away from people lol. I had a incredible time during that field problem. And being in the turret of a Abrams as it was hauling ass across open ground and just experiencing the inside of the turret as the crew works like a well oiled machine was something I will never forget. I gained a great deal of respect for tankers and scouts after getting to be in the turret. I also got to be a driver for a couple of days and damn its crazy how much power those turbine engines deliver to the Abrams. And they ride so smoothly across open terrain. The Abrams truly is a awesome piece of hardware.

Same dichroic mirror system for mixing the beams, then two stepper motors with mirrors for moving the beam around. It's awesome for beam affects and also does basic projected images as well. Does sound to light and dmx control with 9 channels. Maybe you can do a review of one?

This was an interesting video but how about measuring one of the brightest spots at some distance, 1 meter for example, instead of being right against the window of the device? The spots of light spread rapidly once emitted from the thing and that is what an eye would focus on. Also, could you put a pupil the same size as the one in a human eye in front of your laser power meter and then measure the power right against the device? I'm pretty sure that the power measured will be much less than what you measured. It would be quite interesting to know what the actual exposure is rather than the aggregate. To mimic as close as possible a human eye seeing the laser light output seems to me would show best what the risk of viewing these devices is. Eric

I wonder if the diffraction grating splitting the beams into many weaker sub beams mean that the lasers can be rated based on how dangerous it would be to look into one of the beams, even assuming a defective motor. Of course, disassembling and staring into the lasers is an extremely bad idea. OTOH, as a child I was able to stare in to the high sun on a clear summer day, for several minutes, without my eyes suffering the commonly warned damage :-)
@Cenentury09414 жыл бұрын
Isn't the laser rating supposed to be regarding the laser used and not what happens to the beam before it exits the device?
@JohnnieHougaardNielsen4 жыл бұрын
@@Cenentury0941 - I'm far from having expertise, but what I see in text about classification is AEL (Acceptable Emission Limit), with a lot of wording implying measurement outside of the box. I'd say that this makes sense if a laser emitting UV can be "downgraded" by having a filter blocking this. A comparison could be precautions around substances dangerous in high concentration, being safe when suitably diluted, even if an enterprising user could take steps to up the concentration to a dangerous level.

The one reason I don't use these is that I live near an airport. I don't want to get into trouble if one of those beams strikes a plane and blinds a pilot. Because of the way the run way is, I get a lot of planes flying over my house. It can get annoying at time trying to talk on a phone or even to someone in the same room at times. They are mostly Cessnas and similar planes and very rarely anything large. They can be just loud enough flying over that I find myself having to pause in conversations. Some of them actually sound like they might be flying too low. It would be interesting watch one of those ones that sound as if they are way too low and see if it is merely just loud. If it is too low, I would want to catch a video for the FAA to teach the S.O.B. a lesson!!

Usually half but the selection is less. They always have those crappy Star Showers lying around though. I have found October to be a good time too.

I would like to see a characterization of the grating used. It does not seem to behave similarly with DGs I am familiar with.

I think the ratings on these lasers are tested/specified for the fully assembled devices under indented conditions. They have warning stickers and probably also safety instructions in their manuals for a reason. So I think even with these high measured values they are still as save as rated when they are not being abused. If the laser emitters had the power of just 1 mW in total (before filtering) the effect would probably just not work. Still you should keep it out of range for kits or pets, though. That is just common sense for any laser in general.

I need to send you the brand laser lights I've been using, mostly out of curiosity! I have 20 ShowLights red/green moving lasers and I used to have one with a blue laser as well! Thanks for the great video, BTW.

Be careful with windows, a deflected blue laser can travel a long way. I was setting one up and the whole neighborhood had dots until I adjusted it.

Light depend on the waves reflect Magnetic isn't really different, and react also with specific geometrical architectures Take a horse magnet, strength is particularly important between the parallel arms Wish you a good day Your test equipment is really interesting will probably take the same Did you ever try to found sound wave corresponding between materials and light ?
