BUILD: m190 prelim

I have a cybergun colt m4 keymod. I want to upgrade the spring to a m190 3.5j spring. I'm just woried if I need a better motor or better gears or something. I want it to be a dmr and wouldn't need a high rate of fire, so are the other internals good enough?

You’re gonna need a very high torque motor, higher gear ratio, reinforced gearbox shell, full steel rack piston, a perfect air seal set up, the hardest hop rubber you can find, mosfet and an 11.1 20c lips just to pull that beast of a spring

Depends on the specific model of gun. Hard to say without a link. Generally I'll recommend new gears, reshim, AOE correction, new piston and head(depends on stock part), new spring guide if its not steel. Motor might be fine if its got neodymium magnets but a higher torque motor will help with power consumption. Might need a new wiring assembly if you don't have a mosfet or something similar. Battery needs to be the biggest 11.1 you can fit in there though.

Had my G&P crack after a 1.5 years of play, 0.5 years of that was with the SHS M190. It was radiused/and sorbo/STS. granted it took awhile, but it did eventually fail. Hammer anything enough, and it'll eventually give. I was surprised really that it lasted for so long, I expected it earlier [perhaps all the precautions prolonged the life of it] I was pushing mid 30's in the RPS with the M190 however... technically I broke my Cradle Gearbox almost as soon as i dropped the MS210//9T DSG with a weighted --40-50g piston. -Jordan

Impressive. I haven't seen any of those cradles killed yet. I'm not really worried about cracking this gearbox anytime soon but if it does I have like 4 other spare shells I could drop this into. Right now I'm having an issue with the airseal more than anything.

This was a stock G&P shell. Most stock shells nowadays can honestly take high power levels with the right tuning

wouldnt that high psi from that m190 cause a leak in the bucking because it would just blow out between the bucking and barrel? Tooth floss mod or a different bucking might help. I know guys who run high fps bolt action guns do a sealing mod to their barrel and bucking.

it might be blowby but I used a thicker madbull bucking to try and counteract that. Might try the floss though in case I run out of things to try.

@valleyriverarms I used a Prometheus M170 spring, G&P M170 Devil, 32:1 Matrix gears,( $20 at evike), Modify Torus reinforced gearbox,Deep Fire nylon reinforced piston half-rack steel teeth coated with titanium,11.1 lipo with "NO MOSFET" ! i haven't measured the fps but im shattering corona bottles all day long lol. This was my very first build too.I upload a video soon.

m110 should get you between 380-400. Prometheus m120's get me right at 400 on the dot usually.

I found the sorbo I was using doesn't seem to hold up very well on anything over a 160 full stroke I had tiny bits coming out the nozzle running a 170 at 30rps

yeah sounds about right. you can put a neoprene pad on top to help that.

like I mentioned in the video there's an airleak somewhere. FPS is around 500 but that's low for the spring im using.

by my calculations roughly 650 I think but it's not getting that high regardless.

put a 590 or 650 inner barrel on it to make it a distance gun. you can get 125yrds if done right. I have similar set ups in 3 of my guns. each gun is 100yrd plus. lol private game only.

Hey I know a lot of people don't like them but when I do heavy shooting builds like that I actually use a modify full seal aluminum cylinder with intergraded cylinder head it withstands the punishment real nice and I know I won't be losing any airflow from there. I don't know if this works or not but a friend of mine said he was losing compression between the nosel and the hop-up and he said he put teflon tape around the nosle he said to put only what is needed ike he only put one layer on I don't know he says it works but I haven't tried it so.

The one piece cylinder sets are alright I guess. Makes installing sorbo harder though and I find it kinda unnecessary since I rarely get any leaks for the cylinder and cylinder head. The teflon tape might work but you might worry about drag between the nozzle and cylinder head plus the teflon rubbing off.

Yah you got a point on the one peice cyclinders. About the teflon tape, I told him that and he said it's not really a perminate solution. Thanks for the reply by the way.

I'm getting anxiety watching this just WAITING for the front of your gearbox to go flying off. haha. If you want that extra reinforcement, look into getting an STS (Shock Transfer System) by SHS. Those are great for ensuring the reliability and longevity of your gearbox shell.
