The Aussie Ford Territory was one of the most popular SUVs when it was on sale largely due to it being powered by the Barra six cylinder engine. This is the AWD version so it's the perfect platform for a sleeper style build project. We follow Tony from Michael Js & Son as he gives the old family Territory a much needed overhaul from front to back as well as a much needed turbo upgrade.

Ford's improved quality in the AU compared to the US actually pisses me off, I guess making vehicle's for a smaller population definitely has it's up's.

It’s the Aftermarket support. Barra valve springs and oil pump gears are common failure points. Rods are weak too if it’s not a green or red top engine. (LPG or turbo from factory)

If there is a serious fault they will, plenty of 2jzs have shit themselves with a bad tune, this just seems extremly unlucky considering it didn't even make it the first drive

Gotten 930k and 840km from two barras, before the cars were hit

Wrecker engine is always going to have some risk attached, I got a low k, FG motor for a turbo swap, decided I'd pull the caps as I had to change the sump. All of the bearing were prettty ordinary. Turns out the car was a rollover & ran while inverted! I can only surmise it starved of oil. Anyhoo, crank was perfect, so did a measure-up, new shells, & it's as good as gold now. I guess the moral is, it doesn't hurt to drop the sump & check. Having said that, me & the mates have swapped shitloads of wrecker engines without a drama....

Yep, Barras are overated, intechs are the go....waaaay tuffer engine...you've heard of AU's yeah ?

I think it comes down to age and klms now, they've got some years on em now, metal fatigues over time. It's no longer a case of just send em, u know have to do rings n bearings in em minimum, they get a problem with pitting on the bearings which can cause oil pressure/oiling issues.

Why oh why the green tops are not much stronger in the rods than a regular na. Rods are cheap..

Nah that's caused by an oiling issue or lack off oil pressure, those rods will take 800hp+ They got issues of pitting on the bearings, cams and even the wrist pins, they're at the age that u have to do a teardown, check/ clean ul everything and rings n bearings and reassemble.

That motor must have been a massive pos, always worth doing bearings and giving the motor a tear down and once over if it comes from a wrecking yard
