Thank you for posting this. I've been needing a styrofoam cutter for a while now but I could never afford to get a commercial one. I'm retired and on a fixed income. But I do have a 12 volt battery charger. Now to come up with a piece of wire and connectors. Thanks again! :-) Rusty in eastern Tennessee (Witherington Place Railroad)

Love the video! Creativity and common sense create a brilliant foam cutting device. Heading down to my local hardware store to pick up the metal. This solves a few challenges for me.

You can also use a guitar "E" string as the cutting wire. Also, it's not a good idea to breathe the fumes as they are definitely a health hazard. I recommend either opening a window or wearing an organic respirator. It's good practice to wear one anyway when working with chemicals or when sanding. Better safe than sorry. I really enjoy your videos, and kudos for some very nice modeling. Cheers.

I guess you mean the little e string and not the bass e string. Gonna give it a try and see if it works. Thanks for the tip. :-)

Thanks for this video! But keep in mind that the smoke that will appear when melting styrofoam is very unhealthy. Take care for good ventilation or better do the job outside.

Mvh Lars

Is this wire avalible at the big box stores in the US or do you have a link to buy it from? It appears that this wire is also used in the Heating and Air conditioning field. Also does the wire have to be 28 gauge or can you go with a little bit thicker wire? Greetings and thanks from the Untied States. I look forward to many more videos from you. You are helping me make my first train layout. Thank you,

How high from the bottom of the board do you make your slots for the wire?
@marklinofsweden
@marklinofsweden 6 жыл бұрын
Hi again! 👍 It’s no use to have slots lower than 1/8” (3,18mm) because thinner dimensions doesn’t really cut well in a simple cutter like this.

Hello Martin! Is your battery charger a smart one? Trying to fallow your tutorial, I bought (from ebay) a device that as adjustable output current from 0 to 10 amps but that does not work because, I think, a kind of short circuit protection. Where can I get a BILTEMA like yours?

Hi! Can you tell me if there is a nice cheap Swedish homepage, from where I can order blue/pink styrofoam to Denmark ? For some reason it's impossible to buy in Denmark! I've only heard rumors about it's possible to buy it in Sweden and Germany.

Lars Hjelmaeus
@marklinofsweden
@marklinofsweden 5 жыл бұрын
Hej Lars.
