A minimal base very well done. I just got your mug in the mail-- very subtle which I highly appreciate. I still get my on-going reminder to build something, so that is good. while it's very nice of them to send you a new door, you might as well use it to chop off those silly hinge elements-- the body too. In the future, as all good futurists know, there will be no straight-sided doors. They will ALL have a curve to them. This eliminates the "bank vault" look of three hinges so popular in the 1890s. Thus we know we are in the future. But as I said, very nice of them to do something for the modeler, considering the part offer was done for a previous company. (One pictures a room full of bins with old sprues...) I am eternally shocked that Ralph has not switched over to warm LEDs by now. Unless, of course, he had to bulk order a 1000 of the things at one time. Then I am more understanding. But not about using 5mm LEDs. If he had used 3mm LEDs, they might have sat better either facing up or down. But his electronic work/circuit design is nonpareil (full disclosure, I make a fusion core for the 18" J2 and have prototyped a small guy for this thing-- I stuffed 24 LEDs on the board, which has prevented me from offering it up. So far!)! I would have scratched up new landing legs in brass. Or, added one leg in brass that penetrated the base. Two of those can do the job. A few more would allow for the momentary switch somewhere. As for the forward console fit and lacks of the instructions... well, I think they realized they had a dog-in-the-manger of a three-way pin conflict. Too many angles that wouldn't line up. I say, chop the pins off and let the devil take the hindmost! Gaps can be filled with Tulip.

As a paper/card modeller, having little or no instructions is run of the mill, so I can sympathise with you on those horrendous looking directions! A splendid little kit all the same, you produced a fabby-little model - although I still can't remember it from the series, which the last time I watched it was the mid-90's on Channel 4

Phil, we gotta have a room tour, maybe a tool and accessory review would also be fun! Also don’t forget to get back to the 1:350 Refit 😊

Built the pod about a year ago. Great model kit, tricky in some parts of the build.

Hey Phil, nice job. It looks great and the lighting really sets it off. The instructions sound like a joke. I don’t blame you for complaining about it, I would too. There must be something in the air because about a week back I ordered the Lost in Space Chariot. I experienced serious losses in 2022 and I am just now getting my wind back. The Chariot will be my first model since all that. I am looking forward to building it. Just waiting for the kit to arrive. Enjoying your builds.

I just checked the rear door hinge on my model, same as yours. I just used the top and the bottom hinge, the door works fine. Three hinges may cause issues with the door opening/closing. Keep going.

Hi Phil, the center hinge would bind the door if in place due to the curve of the door and the swing. I have built 2 of these kits and both have the nub in the center.

As I watch this at the same time I'm slowly trying to build the AMT Star Trek Bridge kit. Of course with all of the Paragraphix parts as well as a lighting kit from Staring Technologies. So much drilling and sanding right now, trying to get a kit from the seventies to fit better than it was ever intended to. I have the vision of what I want, now I have to try and pull it off.😁

it's been a while since I built mine, but i remember it being a real Rubik's cube of a nugget. I managed a bunch of lighting, and that was before SMLEDs and magnet wire. so i imagine it would a lot easier now. Did you mention that the number on the pod below the USA was reported to be Irwin's actual office phone number at fox?

Funny! I used DSV-4600 for the seaQuest livery number - Amblin’s extension at Universal.

Hi Phil. I have to say that this kit looks like too much effort for the reward it would give me personally. Here in the UK we didn't grow up with Irwin Allen shows like you did so we don't have the same affection that we have for something like Dr. Who (well, the original series anyway! 😯 - and of course the movie 😉) The fusion core kit is a bit bizarre - with such a tight space to fit it in I don't see why they didn't use 3mm LED's instead of 5mm ones. SMD LED's would probably have been even better but more difficult to manufacture by hand which is how I assume these board are made. Also, I find that if you switch on the next LED before switching off the previous one it gives a better rotating effect as there is no point where all the lights are off. With the wiring I would have taken all the wires to a central nexus in a hidden part of the kit and just run 3 or 4 fine wires out of the back and down the rear landing gear. Painted to match the gear strut they would hardly be noticed. The current draw of those few lights and circuit does not need thick wires. Whether a 4th wire would be needed would depend on how the momentary switch is wired - normally they just connect their signal wire to ground so the power ground would provide the necessary connection removing the need for a 4th wire. Love your individual and quirky presentation style - don't get too professional! 😁

Hi Phil. It suddenly occurred to me that I was being stupid! You were born over here just a few years before me and so would have seen the same shows growing up. Duh! 😖

My kit was the same. If you are going to open and close the door the center pin would not operate properly. I checked that out for myselfe. My door opens and closes and when the door is closed the missing deformed middle pin is hardly noticed.

Hey Phil , I just looked at my Kit that's unbuilt and that middle hinge is missing on mine too. I think that was done on purpose.

Is the ship/pod silver and orange, or silver and red? As on the 'main' cameras it looks orange, and on the phone camera it looks red!

I don’t believe that center tab on the door is a hinge. In my kit that is where the door is attached to the sprue, and that tab has no hole in it. It may just be a reinforcement for the door to ‘bump’ up against the frame when it is closed. I can send a picture if it helps.

Thanks! I did speak to a person at Moebius who explained that they made the piece to mimic the actual working miniature from the series! Who knew!!
