After 3-4 automated chicken farm attempts and troubleshooting, even rebuilding, I have now just returned to building normal coups. Less tedious.

1x1 Iron Cage instead of the Core Wood works exceptionally well for me. Have only had 1 egg get stuck so far over many days. No hen has fallen out.

couple changes I made in order to make it work in the most recent patch. 1.) Remove the wooden beam at the bottom of the wall that keeps the chickens on the 45 degree roof 2.) Attach the 1x1 flooring to the opposite side of the hanging wall..so same side you should be standing on when throwing food. 3.) When chickens hatch on the flooring and grow to hens, do not destroy the floor. The gap at the back is big enough for the eggs to fall through. Drop food as shown in the video, its essential the same build just remove the beam, and attach the flooring to the opposite side as shown in this video. I initially started the eggs on the 1x1 cage floor, but the hens seemed off kilter, and wouldn't eat so I managed to snap 1x1 wood flooring onto it as the chickens moved and allowed me to do so. Thats the only difference I have that I didn't list as a step to fix it. If the above steps don't work, thats the only other difference.

thank you sooo much for the video. after the update i thought all was lost as far as trying to make an automated egg farm. the only problem i had with the build is that the chickens had enough room to slide to the sides, making the food out of reach for them to constantly eat. i think i figured it out though. just use a wall to block them from sliding so that there are no delays in production. thanks again for the build. i was beginning to lose all hope of ever mass producing eggs

just remove the lowest log beam after the chicks grow up, both hens stay and the eggs fly right out, tested and approved by myself with this very build - also recommend a campfire near your breeding hut just in case they get stuck somewhere else - they will hatch and escape leaving more room for others

farm works great- thanks for posting this. the food falls down the egg ramp about 70% of the time, not sure why. I built 4 and have it done correctly. only other thing i noticed is its very bat susceptible when the event "you've stirred the cauldron" happens. the bats will shred those chickens in here. I've since enclosed the upper area of the pens but not sure if the bats can get up the egg-drop ramp yet

Why have chickens? I've just bought a few eggs but they are very low hp and stam. Is there something else you can make, like eggs and bacon or something once you cook your first egg? Edit: ahaa chicken supreme 😊

As a suggestion, instead of starting the video with just putting pieces together, before that you should try to explain the concept of the building or some introduction to what you will build and for what benefit (ex: having an automatic chicken farm with eggs ready to harvest, some context) Also It would be interesting if you show a complete version of the building very quickly and then you show how you built it

In time there is a problem. I think they push each other and change position a little bit. Eggs spawn on log beam, same beam that keep them safe from falling. Maybe beam between them will fix this.

I replaced the core wood beam with a dark wood beam and that seems to have fixed the issue of the eggs getting stuck.

This build is working, but I am having an issue where the chickens keep laying eggs on the log beam that is behind them. Even with the wall there. The eggs are just clipped into the wall. I removed the wall and I can get to the eggs, however, the eggs no longer fall down the roof. They just sit on the log beams.

It seems like a very thorough build, but the log beam will absolutely ruin it. Place horizontal regular beams instead, then again higher and closer to the "feeding point" to keep the hens from running around.

Beautiful but does not work. Some eggs stay on the core wood log beam, blocking production. Removing the beam cause hens to go lower or escape. Adding plain wood beams also doesnt help. Haven't found a nice solution yet.

I found solution. Instead using log beam 4m, use 2x (wood beam 26 + short wood beam 1m). If somone have same issue pm me for screen.

It is about finding the right size of the gap, so the eggs will fall down but not the hens. You could do this in free place mode also, but this technique is much easier to reproduce.

No matter how many times I rebuid the chickens don´t eat. Will stick to my 8x15 farm with 50 chickens popping eggs faster than I can collect them every time I toss barley there.

@@fuba1 Nothing to it. Just build low stone wall 15x8 (stone so the chickens don´t pop eggs outside the wall). Add roof for mosquito/bat protection if you like and you are good to go. In one corner add small barn with roof and fire next to it for hatching. Throw 50 eggs there and enjoy the sound of them hatching at the same time :) (the fire needs a roof too, so rain doesn´t put it out and reset hatching timer)

So the farm design is very hit and miss. I tended to more productive chickens in a 4x4 square than I did with this design. Let me add that when it worked it worked great. It just worked randomly for me.

Do it really need to be 2 walls lenght? 0:19 I have made 3 of them already and I keep the thinking of the 2 pole lenght instead of just 1 or 1 and a half. The reason is that I find dificult to keep they feed as they walk a lot to corners...

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the double sided farm actually works. Both sides seem to be constricted to the eggs which drop out of them, for a total of 8. So, if one side drops 4 and the other side drops 4, they stop breeding. I even tried extending it by another floor in terms of separation, but it doesn't seem to do anything. The hens themselves also seem to be included in the total count; but I haven't verified this. Does work great for one side, though.

build higher.. eggs can take any drop and not crack, so if you build high enough that the eggs fall outside the chickens range, then they wont be constricted.. aka 12m high (6 2m wood iron pole, or 3 4m log pole)

So I just finished this farm today, and I'm it sure if maybe I screwed something up, but the chickens eat, they get the pink hearts, but I haven't gotten any eggs yet, the two have eaten 10 barely total, do they normally take up this much resource, or do I perhaps have some problem (I was near the pen, and it was loaded the whole time)

Not certian for chickens, but you have to be near the other animals for them to actually give birth. Its like a 60m radius or something. Probably same for chickens as well

@@paulkocherhans608 could be a local or global entity cap if you have large farms nearby, not sure how those work in Valheim. Alternatively, the eggs could end up in there stuck somewhere I guess? If you get pink hearts, there should be that 33% chance of an imminent birth or laying as I read the wiki, but its not too specific especially about the chickens and hens.

You can totally just make that build longer and cram 8 chickens it for a super fast auto farm. make it high so the eggs fall more than 10meters from the chickens and just afk near it for fuckloads of eggs =D

I have done that with 4 chickens facing 4 chickens. The ones on the left hand eggs provide eggs to a heated enclosed area to allow then to grow to more chickens for chicken meat and feathers. The ones on the right side provide eggs into an unheated storage area for just eggs, :)

It's probably a sphere so if you build out in 4 directions then full it in to make a circle that's most likely the area. I say this because everything else is a sphere in this game.

isn't this the same as farming anything else in any other biome? you just need to get enough wisps together to make a bunch of wisp torches and ideally, find a spot near a dvergr tower that's missing its dvergr device for whatever reason, and have them help defend one of your flanks! I built my base on the foundation of a dungeon entry point in the hopes that it might have some respawns, but we'll see i guess lol

so complicated. theres a much faster way with just a 4x4 and then leaving only a 1x1 box for each egg/chicken. only problem i have is theres so freaking many chickens that hatch, they somehow get out of the chicken coup that is completely boxed in.

There is a maxium of eggs per area, then the hens stop laying more eggs before you pick them up. The point of the structure shown in the video ensures that the eggs drop out of range from the hens, so they will continue.

@@HersirHarek i think you're right but breaking games mechanics at this point is near cheating. So use the devcommand is faster IMO. Building a chinken farm well organized with fire well placed to have the eggs warmed well whenever there's one, that is optimise a farm. I think this is what i hoped to see in this vid but no. BTW everybody plays as he want, in my case this cheat farm is not for me. Have fun!
