I have been buying lego technic sets for a long time now but I've been getting increasingly disappointed with technic sets lately in terms of price and poor/lazy design so I thought I'd try something different on my two weeks off from work over Xmas. I purchased this set from CaDA in my local toy store and I've just spent the last week building it. Even though the quality of parts are about 90% that of lego this is without doubt the best technic set I have ever built to date. Thijs design is so clever it blows my mind, it is the most beautiful technic car of all my cars, porsche, ferarri, bugatti, lambo etc. I'm interested to know if Thijs asked lego if they were interested? If they turned him down what a big mistake that was. Lego designers- you better up your game with guys like this snapping at your heels. Superb superb superb!!!!!👏👏👏👏👏

Hi Arnold, it's great to hear that you loved building this set! If you feel like taking on another I think the v12 Hypercar now comes in a static version (without the motors) and in blue, so would be a good build. (I actually like the v12 Hypercar the most of the CaDa sets I've built). As to your point on the Lego Technic models being disappointing, I do understand, and what's getting me of late is how expensive Lego sets have become. It is not a cheap hobby that's for sure. Have a superb year ahead with 2024!

Thanks for reviewing more non Lego alternatives, i hope to see more. Despite the small quality issues I'd still purchase this set over a similar sizes lego set, I think we are now at a stage where the price difference is too much to ignore. And to be fair Lego quality over the last few years has been far from perfect. For me they arent the premium brand they used to be. Great content!

Hi TotallyAddicted2Bricks - thanks for commenting and sharing. I agree with everything you've said for sure. I do feel though, as I mentioned in the video, that CaDa's part quality still needs improvement. But as far as bang-for-buck you get a lot of model with this offering for what you pay. Especially when CaDa run a sale. I still prefer Lego products and their system of parts, but I dip into the CaDa line occasionally when I see that they have partnered with a MOC designer that I like and have brought their creation to life as a set. ​@@CraftedBricksHi. I think the quality will come eventually, these alternative brands have improved a lot over the past few years I think. But for me the saving in money outweighs that little bit of lesser quality, after all my sets just sit on display 99% of the time. I just can't justify spending £300/£400/£500+ on these expensive Lego sets just to sit on a shelf. I've just become very dissillusioned with lego as a whole and after many years if being a huge collector I have sold a lot of my sets, and started to buy far less. Again thank you for the great content!

Thanks Simon, the video turned out better than I expected, it was a bit of pain to make but all done now. I enjoy dipping into a Technic style build form time to time to mix things up, but next I'm back into a medieval era Lego minifigure squad build which I'm looking forward to. : )

Sounds good! This is an alternate non-Lego brand, but the quality is decent and I think if you decide to buy it you'll find the building experience to be challenging yet enjoyable.

I must say, as someone who has been haemorrhaging cash on Lego this last year and a half, the option of a comparable challenging build at a more affordable rate has immense appeal. Did you experience similar quality issues with the hyper car you did some months ago? Which of the two do you prefer from both a build and final result perspective?

Hi Daniel - I know the type of builds and result you like so I'd probably say the CaDa models are not going to meet expectations. I'm supportive and impressed with what they are trying to achieve (i.e. working with designers to bringing MOC designs to life as sets) but feel part quality still needs improvement. Of the two Hypercars I've built I think I actually prefer the V12 Hypercar (the white model), but this LaFerrari is still an impressive set and the modular build experience was novel and fun.

Thanks for the excellent review. I have been working on this model for just under a week now and about halfway through. What strikes me most is the enormous complexity of the design and the concentration it takes to build the (sub)models. I am a pretty experienced builder (I have been building technic models since 1977), but regularly I think: the designer is really nuts here. I can only be satisfied with the quality of the parts. Cada is, by designing its own, slightly different, parts, developing into a real competitor of the Danish guys. I received this set with a number of redesigned parts, which are perfectly compatible with other brands, but still sufficiently different to now win licences as well. That this has happened is clear with the new Mercedes AMG One set. Thanks again for the review and I look forward to other reviews.

Hi Hans, what a superb comment thanks for sharing your experience so far with this model. I do like the more complex building style of these CaDa supercars as like you say it even keeps experienced builders on their toes. I think of this and the V12 Hypercar, the V12 is the better model but I don't want to take anything away from your enjoyment of this one. I bought the AMG One set, but I don't have the time at the moment to take that build on. As you can imagine the time it takes to both build and video a complex set like that is significant. @@CraftedBricks After more than 11 days and more than 50 hours of building, I finally finished the model. The word "finally" also describes how I feel about the model. The basic idea of making a technic model in a number of modules seems like a nice idea, but it doesn't really work for such a large model. As a result, this way of building has too few checkpoints on operation. At the end of the building process, the 60 steps to get from 12 modules to a finished model, are very frustrating. After all the hours you put into building the modules, merging feels unnecessarily time-consuming. Moreover, after merging there is almost no possibility to easily correct (building) errors. Fortunately, the Viva Hypercar looks great and most of it works excellently. The (improved/altered) Cada technic parts are really fine and allow themselves to be processed just fine. However, Cada's system parts are disappointing in quality and lack holding power. In conclusion, an 8 for the designer and a 7- for the end result.

Well said Hans, I agree with all that you've posted. Getting those modules all connected and assembled is more complex and fiddly than people may think. I haven't looked at the instructions for the AMG One but I assume it's a non-modular standard build. I'm really not sure when I'll take that on as like you say these builds are 40-50 hour builds and you have to be in the 'mood' to do them. As a lifetime, staunch Lego fan I can not deny that Cara is doing a better job. After having bought and built áll Lego 1:8 scale technic car models I recently finished my first Cada, the yellow Ferrari 488. Here’s my opinion: I evaluated the following points: Design, Difficulty, Value for money, Color consistency Materialquality Parts shape consistency (do they fit) Parts completeness Price Manual If I set original Lego at 100 for all then my score is respectively: 200, 150, 300, 95, 100, 95, 95, 200, 110 So in overall they outperform Lego completely. In hardware quality they are slightly behind. Very slightly. Sometimes you notice a pin goes not as smooth as it should but it is totally acceptable. Using well known mic designers is a smart move that pays off these guys have time, no restrictions or guidelines. That leads to better designs. And the same type of model, fully motorized and including remote and lighting, for half the price? Lego, you really have to step up.

What a detailed comment! I would rate CaDa's color consistency and material quality lower than what you've given, but that's all ok. In essence I agree with you, CaDa is doing an amazing job with their 1:8 scale Super Car line-up! The Mercedes model recently released is spectacular and is a good case example (I bought one, but I don't have the time to build/review it at the moment). Thanks for sharing!

Good question Altin. I have the older Italian Super Car (in yellow) that I've not built yet so it's hard for me to give you a direct answer of which to recommend. I.e. that one or this newer Viva Hypercar. I actually like the v12 Hypercar the most of all the CaDa sets that I've built. Oh no problem at all! I think sticking to Lego is the way to go. I just like from time to time to build something from a designer that I like (Thijs in this case) where their design (licensed) has been produced as an affordable set. But this week/weekend I'm back to the next Lego build : )

Nice vid Simon Ive though about the cada models for a wile now and how people cry about the colour miss matches but to be honest lego dosnt do a to good job sometimes eg the old pickup truck and the sien have very bad colour matches between the different shapes. Btw i didnt look at any reviews of the pick up truck and though mine was faulty so i called lego and all they said was they have had a few people say that .and when lego dose light blue gray stickers i will cut out each print becouse the sticker base colour is so off it makes the model look like a knock off eg speed champ 007 car. how was the service of cada

Thanks! ...and I feel you on colour miss-matches being an issue with Lego as well. New Dark Red being a particular culprit of this issue, like you've experienced with the Pick-up Truck. I've found Lego customer service have been really good, they often replace parts if you ask & send them photos. I often ask for replacement parts when they are scratched! As far as customer service from CaDa, I've not tried asking for replacement parts, but I know they have an option on their site to request replacements and the Sales Rep who emails me about their line-up seems to be very friendly. : )

Hi there - no the quality is not that bad, it's just important that when I make a video like this I'm 100% honest on my thoughts/opinions on the model. Hi Justin, the Cada sets are very similar to Lego Technic sets, so essentially the same parts and concepts apply. The difference is that Cada instructions are much more involved, so you will be fitting more parts per build step/versus Lego instructions. I fin this to be a fun challenge. Cada are also making their own new parts that don't exist in the Lego system, and they mould some of their parts differently to Lego's which you will notice if you decide to buy one of their sets (the new AMG One looks very good btw). The only downside, and it is not huge, is that the quality of CaDa's parts is not on par with Lego's parts, but they are getting better and better. I hope this helps, cheers, Simon

I read a review on amazon for this model and the person only gave it one star, stating that the instructions were terrible and had to give up. I have built other lego and cada sets with no problem, they can't be that bad can they ?!

Hi Derek, the bit from the Amazon reviewer that said '...had to give up' told me all I need to know! CaDa's instructions are excellent, as in really good, but they are different to Lego instructions in that they have a lot more parts placed per step, and there are generally more building steps per page versus what you would be used to with say Lego Technic instructions. This means that your building experience is more involved and challenging, you really have to pay close attention to the instructions and make sure you don't miss anything, particularly with the technical steps for building the gearing and drive train so you don't make a mistake. It sounds like the Amazon reviewer found this to be too hard for their comprehension / building skill. I think CaDa are having a 15% off sale for Black Friday so if you do want to buy one of their models could be a good time. The AMG One looks really good! Cheers, Simon

The fact that some of the panel pieces from Cada are “broken” into 2 pieces compared to Lego’s panel pieces really bothered me. It just makes the overall shape not as clean as T_Lego’s. I’m pretty much going to replace them and unfortunately this adds to the cost of the set but improves the overall look.

Hmm I'm not exactly sure on which specific panels you mean but I'm glad you have a solution in mind (despite the frustration with extra cost). The cost to build this per the designers original design in Lego parts would have been very high though. So that's something worth noting. I hope you enjoyed the complexity and challenge of the build however though. Thanks for sharing!
