Also, if they are a bit older, they are a cheep and easy way to make a guitar with a rosewood fretboard. Your vids are great thx

For paint scraping I use a razor blade and wrap several layers of blue painter tape around it, leaving exposed the blade to equal the width of the cut while the wrapped tape works s a guide and won’t allow a cut that goes beyond the binding into the color of the guitar.

@codyschrecengost1976 жыл бұрын
Don Palanqueto that’s another thing I would recommend. Get new electronics for sure. I upgraded the pots and switches on mine as well as put Seymour Duncan pickups in. I never actually used the kit pickups so I’m not sure what quality they are. I went into my build with a plan in my head of how I wanted it to look and what I wanted in it. And white Seymour Duncan’s were always on my shopping list. That’s what I mean when I say take your time and do your research. You’re basically making your own signature model guitar. Trying to get one either requires a lot of money or getting what’s been called a Chinese Rickenbacker or Chickenbacker. The Chinese version I have heard on KZbin seems to have a various attempts of quality. So my evil thought for you is this. Have you ever thought about doing a clone of a 325 by using a Stratocaster body, Rickenbacker pickups, and a short scale neck using Pyramid Strings. Plus also doing the same wiring as the original one had. That would give those who would like to have similar to a Rickenbacker scale wise and possibly similar tone due to the Toaster pickups. It would be very unique guitar too. :) Love your videos and would love to see you do a gun video using an m1 carbine to test.

You can fill in imperfections in binding by mixing shavings of the binding with acetone.. over time, the acetone melts it down into a liquid form, which you can then take and fill the holes with. The remaining acetone will bond it to the existing plastic, and then evaporate. At that point, you have solid plastic which can be sanded and scraped to perfection.

I got the same locking tuners, the posts that pinch the strings are a pain if you don't know what the problem is. The way I fixed mine was I tapered the ends of each problem pin. They were long enough but the ones who weren't going all the way home I noticed there was a small gap between the tuner and the screw in part on the back, that told me mine was long enough but the tip was simply not rounded enough. Doing it also lowers the possibility of cutting a string. The guitar came out nice. I would have personally left the splatter off of it since it came out so good looking but I understand why some folks like the imperfect look. I've done the same on certain projects I painted. Anyway good job dude.

Guns and Guitars well I mean if the channel goes south, you could always appeal to the 13 year old emo kids and do more stuff like this with a long wig on. Just some food for thought.

Super cool!! I like your binding scraping idea. Since you asked in the video, I'll share my binding scraper, though I'm not sure if it's better or worse than yours. I take a dowel and notch a thin, deep notch into the end (imagine it's like a slot head truss rod end with a super deep slot). Then I insert a razor blade into it with the sharp end towards the bottom. That way, I can adjust the depth of the razor for the top or the side. As long as the blade is tight in the notch, it doesn't slip and it's super sharp. I run the rounded part against the body, and the blade sticking out scrapes the binding.

Does anyone know where I can find a "metal" V diy kit? All I can seem to find is Gibson flying V diy kits.
@crimsonfiend27006 жыл бұрын
Dispaly Name there’s some randy Rhoads style V’s on guitar fetish, you could also always do some shaping and beveling on a Gibson v style kit, kinda like a Hetfield vulture

@@crimsonfiend2700 I was looking for something more along the lines of a king v, but I appreciate the help

Video should be called "Build your DREAM Les Paul for LESS than $300 if you already have all the tools necessary to build the guitar!!!"

When you look at a diy video for a desk or project like that the titles are the same. They’re assuming you have tools of course.

Extremely informative, I've always wanted a les paul, but I've never wanted to build my own more than this one! Yours turned out great, phenomenal video

I would have put the kill switch where the PU selector was and moved thee PU selector near the knobs. I like that locations personally too as its easier to flip.

I would've loved to see his result without the splats and a good gloss coat; what's wrong with a beautiful guitar!? That said, I couldn't achieve as good of a result as he does here. Nicely done.
@cesarbh874 жыл бұрын
Talking about that. Do you know if regular automotive lacquer can be used over the dye he applied? I gotta say I liked the method he used but some gloss would've been great
@imsgoalie14 жыл бұрын
Cesar Alejandro Barragan Hernandez I don’t know. I would imagine with a non natural color guitar, yellowing isn’t desirable (some people like the look of it as a natural wood guitar ages). So I’d go with a two part clear coat and something specifically that cures with some ductility/elasticity (to stretch with humidity changes in the wood). There are lots of different formulations of two part clear coat that fit that bill. As for whether or not there’s a single stage lacquer that is as UV resistant as two part clear and also flexible... I don’t know. Maybe?

4 inch paint scraper, 5 pack. The blades are cheap and no prep needed prior to binding cleaning. Use duct tape if you need safety.
