Build your own inexpensive rebar bender

I am renovating an old house in the mountains of Pennsylvania. Needed to design a rebar bender with stuff laying around the house. A forged eye bolt and an old beam fit the bill. Total cost, about $4.00. I get my inspiration from the people in the 1800's that built this house. (They built walls using the tops of telegraph poles and boards from a wooden boxcar.)

Ha! All these complicated and expensive machines for bending rebar on all the other channels and this guy does it with a $2 eye bolt. Classic. Thanks for sharing!

The two dollar eye bolt was NOT the biggest cost involved here.

I was trying to bend some 1/2" rebar on an anvil, or with my vice, and the rebar was winning... Then I saw this video and did the forehead palm slap thinking "This is such a simple straight forward idea, why didn't I think of it myself?!?!?!". I used a 4x4x6' pressure treated, the forged bolt, a couple of flat & fender washers on the bottom side, and was done in minutes!!! It bent the rebar better than expected! My only addition: If there's less than 12" of rebar laying on the wood, put a piece of metal (I used a scrap piece of 6" c-channel) under the end so it won't dig into the wood.

Don't all pipes have holes in them?
@AztecWarrior69
@AztecWarrior69 6 жыл бұрын
Joe Monroe NO. It's very rare. The pipe has a hollow not a hole. Also he probably meant a notch on the end. A notch would help keep it centered and not slip.

So long as the hole in the forged eye bolt is large enough, the eye bolt is strong enough and the hole in the pipe is the right size, it should work.
