A buddy of mine who's former SAS turned me onto this idea. He adds metal weights to the top of the tire to increase load. Before I got a tire I wanted to see if there were any variations on the idea just in case. Thank you!
@AaronKuszlaFitness2 жыл бұрын
@@biggaywizard another variation to add weight more easily is to screw in a piece of timber on the inside of the tyre spanning the whole diameter. Then from that you can attach some dowel or pipe to create a "plate stacking" post so they don't fall through or fall off when you're pulling it along.

Great alternative! I also saw Ben Patrick's sledding for the Knees over Toes challenge. The sleds are not portable and they're expensive. This alternative is portable and affordable. I put free weights inside the tire walls for added resistance when close to home. Thanks Fossa! 😊

That's what I use. Add a piece of plywood to add weight like plates or sandbags. I also used a burnt out piece of old fire hose as webbing.

I've got a semi truck tire that I will be using. With the eye bolt, I used a larger washer on the inside of the tire to help from pulling out. Thank you for this idea! After researching the sled market and finding how expensive they can be, I knew there had to be a another way to get the same result with what I have on my property. I found your video of a great way to do it. Thank you

Clever solution. I do some logging work, so I have slings, carabiners, logging chains and - - - Logs! Yep, chain around the log, sling hooked into the carabiner, hooked to the chain ;) Your solution is good for city dwellers ;)
@AaronKuszlaFitness2 жыл бұрын
That's awesome! From what I know about sleds, the idea for them actually came from logging...having to drag the logs out themselves. Made the loggers very strong in movements like deadlifts etc (from what I've read)

@thatonegamer27093 жыл бұрын
@@wiz8914 you would think but honestly compared to the original underneaths rails its really good. Besides ive had mine for a couple years now and i do use my sled every day with heavy weight still going strong. Just get the rite size..i believe mine was 13.

Hey what underneath rails mate? It's just the rubber tire right? So the metal sheet is quieter as opposed to the tire touching the ground?? Cheers

Does this work well for resisted sprints? I’m thinking that the weight on top of the tire would fall off while sprinting…
@AaronKuszlaFitness7 ай бұрын
I've created a variation that uses some timber attached to the inside of the tyre. Then a pvc pipe coming up off that which the weight plates slide onto. This helps to stop them slipping off if you're running with the sled. If you're planning to do sprints with it, something like this might be the way to go.

You're welcome! Yep, you can add sandbags on top, or just use weight plates. I use Olympic sized plates, that way they don't fall through the tyre. Another alternative is to screw some timber onto the inside of the tyre to stop whatever you put on top from falling through. Hope that helps :)

@AaronKuszlaFitness4 жыл бұрын
3Assem morad you’re welcome! I’ve used a slightly smaller car tyre in the video which allows me to sit a weight plate (Olympic sized) on top without falling through. Otherwise, you can screw some timber on the inside to prevent things falling through. Hope that helps.
@adammcallister96752 жыл бұрын
Loctite for them nuts is probably a good idea.
@MasonC2K2 жыл бұрын
So how do you get the weights on there?
@AaronKuszlaFitness2 жыл бұрын
Depending on the size of tyre you use and the weight plates you have available, they should just sit on top without falling through. For mine I use Olympic sized plates which are just a little bigger than the inside diameter of the tyre. That way I can stack multiple plates on the sled depending on what I’m doing with it.

Thanks a lot for this video! Does anyone have experience with making it a bit more silent by any chance?
@AaronKuszlaFitness2 жыл бұрын
You're welcome! That might be a little tough to make it even quieter since that's the benefit of using the tyre as opposed to a steel sled. You could potentially put something under the surface of the tyre that will be dragged on the ground. Maybe something like some old carpet would definitely help, but this would also have to be replaced often. Hope this helped!

I've done the tire thing in my neighborhood (I run uphill with it). The first time I did it, a lady three doors away came out to see what was going on. It's loud. I'm going to experiment with attaching weight plates or sandbags onto my four-wheel hand truck (or other rubber-wheeled cart) and attaching a rope to that. Using a weight-lifting belt was good.
