There is nothing wrong with rewarding yourself with a bag you've wanted and saved up for for a long time if you truly appreciate luxury bags and that's your goal. But I have bought a few too many items on impulse and also watch Eileen's videos every day to remind me to stop spending. Money doesn't buy happiness!

Young influencers who have Chanel, Dior and even Hermes now - its just not real life. I honestly believe this huge wave of influencers all looking the same, all buying the same, all instagramming the same it’s putting so much pressure on young people to keep up and fit in! I don’t want my child to grow up wanting to be an influencer as a career - just to live a life of excessive luxury because it’s cool? To work a normal job and buy your special things with your hard earned money is real life.

I bought my first luxury item at age 38, even that, I got it from the second hand market after looking thru so many bags & thinking long & hard about what I want the bag for & how it goes well with my existing wardrobe. I married & had kids in my 20s, no way would I afford any luxury good. I personally don't think on average, anyone should buy luxury until they're well & comfortably secured financially. No point showing off a bag when you don't have good savings & investments for retirement. I rather just carry a 90 dollar bag knowing I have money in the bank.... Than a 2k bag feeling broke.

Loved this video...I have a few designer handbags that just don’t get used. Could say I was “influenced” by so many KZbinrs who seem to get a designer bag every week. This year I’ve been watching many videos like yours about responsible spending. If I really take my lifestyle into account, I should really be happy with Michael Kors/Coach and not be lusting after Chanel/Hermes which really do not fit into my life tbh. Reality check ✅!!! Hi Eileen, really enjoyed this video. The number one thing I'd consider when buying a handbag is how compatible it is with my current lifestyle. The most important factor when purchasing my most perfect handbag is if it is the right size, color, hardware and yes if it will look brand new for years to come. I am very gentle with my things, but box leather is something I wouldn't buy for an everyday bag. I have grained leather for my everyday bags. I have a handbag in every color that I wear. I Love dressing monochromatic. So I have a brown, blush pink, black, cream and camel. I've been looking for a taupe with silver hardware. It's been 2 years. It will probably be Ferragamo. I like their price point and the clothes I'll be wearing with it are casual. I Love your videos. 5 pm PST on the dot. I Love how reliable you are. And I Love you, Eileen.

Glad to see someone has the same thoughts on owning luxury pieces. It has to be the practicality as well as the creation / artistic design then comes the color and weight. It should not be too heavy as if carrying a dumbbell around. Like clothes, the bag collection should have for 4 seasons, not all black or brown all the time that make our life too dark and sad.

Eileen I ALWAYS LOVE your videos & your balanced style and message are so refreshingly CLASSY😻 I have a small handbag collection & have recently sold quite a few luxury items. I really love your take on appreciating ALL of the beautiful things in our life💖 It’s soooo true that we only have TODAY & that’s why the present is called a GIFT My Luxury Collection Standards: 1. Classic Brands, Styles & Materials = Will stay en vogue throughout the years & go with EVERYTHING. TIP: Choose pieces with the CLASSIC logo design, not trends. 2. Durable Materials & Neutral Tones = Long lasting style, easily maintained & fit into entire wardrobe. TIP: Add color pops to bags with twillys, charms & accessories. 3. Practical to YOUR life = You’ll actually CARRY those pieces & be HAPPY about it! TIP: Invest in pieces that can do double duty, have multiple pieces or are convertible. 4. Cost per wear = Along with my budget, this is the #1 aspect I consider. TIP: Consider pre loved for trends or durable material classics. MY COLLECTION: Chanel Reissue 226 Chevron Aged Leather in Nude w/ Ruthenium Hardware Gucci Dionysus Med. Black Calf Leather w/ Bamboo Handle & Silver Hardware YSL Mini Camera in Matte All Black Pebbled Leather Valentino Small Glam Lock w/ Leather covered studs in Deep Red Calf Leather with pale gold hardware YSL Lou Lou Small in Black Leather with aged silver hardware YSL Sunset Small in Grey Croc with Silver hardware YSL Chevron Zip Wristlet Clutch in Black with gold hardware Dior Miss Promenade Patent Leather in Nude with silver hardware Louis Vuitton Bellevue Large Tote in Amarante Vernis Senreve Maestra Large in Pebbled Chestnut Leather with gold hardware I have multiple MC Wallace & Longchamp casual pieces for running around. SMALL LEATHER GOODS: LV Red Epi Leather Wallets, Cles & Pochette and an LV Amarante Cles. I really have much of the same style as you and besides black, white, navy, beige, grey and camel, red is really the only pop of color I like in my wardrobe. I love the look of many jewel tones and also light pink, but I know that I won’t actually wear them, lol! I have invested in a capsule collection of heritage brand ready to wear outerwear pieces especially like Burberry, Chanel, Hermès, Valentino, Ferragamo and Moncler. I do love Cartier jewelry & my favorite piece is a Trinity Heart on a delicate Rose Gold chain I bought as a milestone gift to myself💝. I have one classic vintage Rolex with no diamonds. I don’t wear a watch to dressy occasions. I have a few basics and gemstones and pearls in fine jewelry & prefer minimal looks with perhaps one statement piece occasionally. These days I tend to go for classic styles most of the time in everything. I find myself being a far more conscious shopper these days. I’ve had to admit how much of my entire wardrobe I simply did not wear! 🙀I suppose it could also somewhat be age as I just turned 50, but I also believe its partially that I used to work with luxury brands for many years like Chanel & YSL and that, of course, requires a very smart style of dressing DAILY! I had a tendency to be more into trends also when I was younger. Frankly, there are many amazing emerging & new designers, however; in the past 15 years, fashion has not really impressed me much in regards to trends. Thank you for always sharing the full truth of the way you choose to bring luxury into your life & it’s always fun seeing your opinions!💝

great advice as usual Eileen! I think durability is very important to me for a pricey purchase. Unlike in the past, I now research the durability of any bag I am interested in and I read the reviews and watch a few KZbin videos on wear and tear. But as you mentioned in one of your other videos, I have reduced the time I spend on researching and window shopping items because I have limited free time on the weekends and in 2021, I don’t want to spend as much time researching items I may or may not ever buy. Not having a bag to save towards right now is very freeing and it frees up money to spend on other things like a takeout coffee and lunch on the weekends and too. I am not saying I do not have anything on my wishlist but taking a break this year with a low buy goal is much needed.

I am just like you. I take great care of my items. Barely any scratches. And I used them every day. I need medium size as I carry quite a bit for work. Weekend bag can be smaller but obviously don’t need that many for weekend. Of course over the years I went nuts and bought some items I regret. Thank goodness I was able to sell them, at least get some money back, particularly when my taste is not common.☺️

Hi Eileen , loved the video. Great tips as always. For me I feel that A bag should be practical , in the size that suits the individual and every time you look at the bag you feel that it was the right thing to purchase it. Also the color like you said for me should be a color that I can use all the time without having to buy new items. Me personally I also look if a bag looks too bulky , as a petite it can be very tricky to get a bag that looks nice and doesn't look that the bag is bigger than you! I love your style and how minimalistic you are. I am so happy my first handbag i bought recently is a LV speedy 25 bandouliere. It's fits my casual style, fits a lot (even water bottle) but doesnt look too chunky and if I dress up a little bit it also looks super chic handheld. Such an amazing design. And it is so classic, so I know it will be stylish for the rest of my life. I do not intend to sell it, but high resell value shows also that it will stay stylish. I do not think I will buy trend pieces, my next piece will be the cassie 19 after a lot of consideration (influenced by you) as a crossbody bag, since its good quality, but super affordable. I know I will get lots of use out of it on a daily basis, but if one day i do not like it anymore, its ok. The Hermes bags look super nice but are too chic for me at my age and style (I do not like young influencers wearing chanel and hermes in jogging pants), also very expensive and tricky customer service. One thing i also do not like is the opening of Hermes birking and kelly its either very unsafe (open) or too hard to get into, so when i get older and have a classier style I will go for a chanel classic flap. Then I will have bag peace

Me too, 1 luxury item cost = 20-50 non luxury ones and lasts longer so that’s a great way to shop more sustainably!

As always, great video! Today I ordered the Loewe small puzzle bag in the color tan. I think it will go with many things as it’s in a nice and neutral color. While it was pricey, I know that the cost per wear will be high. It’s casual yet sophisticated and unique. It’s soft and comfy. It’s crossbody, but has a top handle. I know I will wear it often. I can’t wait for it to arrive. 😍

I have this bag and I love it. It is my most used bag! Congrats! It is casual, sophisticated and unique as you said, but I also love it because it is so comfy to wear crossbody, over the shoulder and handheld. The leather is also carefree. If I could only have one luxury bag this would be it due to cost per wear!

Love that bag- on my list. Considered the black but the tan shows off the puzzle design so nicely. Enjoy it!

Two very important elements for buying a bag for me are strap length and size. I do not like cross body bags so I have not bought many bags because the strap is to long. Recently purchased a bag and took the strap to a cobbler to shorten the strap. It looked great so that problem is solved. I have found a bag about 12 inches wide is a good size for me. perferably brown or black. Thanks for you for your videos they are very honest.

Thank you for sharing with us! The shoulder strap length is a BIG factor I consider too when buying a bag,it really bothers me when the bag sits too low on me xx

Great video and important tips. Lifestyle and easy to use are super critical to me. Anything that does not fit into my lifestyle or is a hassle to use are my top dealbreakers.

I'm going in the same direction. I'd rather have a small collection of the brand I love (even with a more expensive price tag) than a ton of others I rarely reach for. My current collection is 10 and I'm looking to downsize a bit more. I love black bags but most people often ask me why don't add some colors. It's sad the all-black collection. I think I could wear colorful clothes if I want to add some colors to my daily outfits. It's cheaper than getting a colorful bag which I'd easily get bored of.

Great video! In the past few years I learned a very important lesson when it comes to luxury shopping, and it is to think about each purchase thoroughly enough to make sure that my bag or luxury item works for multiple occasions and seasons. No winter only bags, no fabric bags and no special occasion only pieces. Just like you said, special occasions don’t come very often, so buying items that work only for them is a total waste of money. Unless at some point you cover all the basics and want to add some “extras”...but I don’t think I fall into that category😆 I want a small luxury collection of versatile items that work for everything.

Can't agree more! Weddings and parties are rare occasions for me anyway, and I don't think I'll be getting any invitations this year xx
@miel48614 жыл бұрын
Colourful Noir I was thinking about this the other day. Actually back home (I’m living in the US now) we have SO many special occasions (ok obviously not during the pandemic). Very large families mean many engagement parties, weddings, graduations and baby showers. For someone living in a very large family, it might make sense to reserve luxury items for special occasions because there are so many of them. I guess that is why we need to consider our own situation. For me now special occasions happen once a year if at all.

@lalapurplelala4 жыл бұрын
@@Mary0437 Hi! Yes I am! I have been wanting this for ages. However, you have to remember that this is an open top bag, no zips, so security might be an issue and I sometimes find it difficult to access things when full (I use a bag insert and it’s a bit thick, might remove it too). Overall, it is a great bag.

Another great video Eileen! I’d consider how does the bag fit in with my current lifestyle, practicality, versatility and price. I never think luxury bags as investment coz it’s very rare that you can make money or simply just cost recovery out of selling it. Specific bag like Hermes or Chanel might but not always. That’s just my opinion ☺️
