I started one last year and still have a little painting to do and a little wood working to do also but 95% done. Thank you getting me fired up about crafting again. After I watched all of your videos on this tavern, I went to town on it. I even cut all of the wood from a 2x4 and put red oak hardwood floors in it. I made a few changes to the interior but other than that it was a major project and I commend you my friend. Thank you. Keep on crafting.

Fabulous job. Just two items to think about: if you place trestles in a tavern room, it would be good to leave som stains under the sides of it; and most medieval buildings didn't have glass windows, they used very thin hides that were oiled or usually just shudders. This is amazing work. I especially love the pieces that aren't square, explaining what your mistakes and the music. The scored wood from the wire brush look terrific! As for the fireplace, I recommend pulling some nearly pure flat black up from the inside of the top of the fireplace upwards and add a black "iron" spit in front. The moss looked perfect too.

You can! Start small, get foam board, build a small and simple building (Chapel, Tower, house with four walls,...) then add more details, color, weathering effects. Most of those can be added later on, and they dont need too much planing. There should also be a plan around to show you how to turn a pringles can into a medieval tower, it is not that complicated, but it looks quite nice.

@48:58 I love to come back to this video again and again. I 'm living in a old German medieval citiy, with a lot of Fachwerk-houses (half-timbered-houses), churces, towers, walls and so on. The wall at this stage is the most realistic crafted wall i've ever seen. Of course, the color of walls and stones can vary a lot from region to region, depending on the stones they had and used. But I really like the brownish grey of the stones and the lighter mortar/groud between the stones.

Man, my OCD really kicks in when I see how much glue you use and how messy it seems. Also, it almost seems like notching and fitting the cross beams like they would be in real life might be a legitimately better way to go than gluing on the extra piece to the outside of the building.
@RealTerrainHobbies5 жыл бұрын
yea dunno about that.... all the notching and cutting seemed to have been the most time consuming out of the whole process. (k that and the stones) maybe you're right.... I use to make faux stone for a company, we used dry concrete pigment applied with a slightly damp sponge... similar to dry brushing. But you might try with a dry pigment powder for stone . What we did was spread concrete material, textured it, then carved the stone pattern while it was still wet but curing. We dry pigmented all the stone first, THEN we grouted with colored Mortar. This did two things, it protected the mortar from getting pigment in it, and it also spread the mortar color throughout the stone blending all the colors together. You might try something similar, color all your stone first and then color your grout plaster with paint, gray or tan and then Grout it
@RealTerrainHobbies5 жыл бұрын
Wow, interesting. Might have to try something like that for this wizard tower I'm currently working on... I like the sound of this a lot and it seems like it would not only look great, but cut back immensely on time. Hmm, might have to try some experimenting! Thanks for the advice!

Wonderful job! But I’d like to highly recommend some really simple tools for you! (Or anyone else getting into this!) Alright so, check out the “Westcott Grid Ruler”, it’s a clear ruler with a thin metal edge. You can find one for under $20 on Amazon. I use it on nearly every project, it’s a pretty great tool! I’d also highly recommend grabbing some 123 blocks. Again, you can find these for around $20. They’re cut at a perfect right angle, they have some weight to them as well. Super handy little blocks! Now clearly you don’t really need either of these things! But they’re unbelievably handy tools to have. If you plan on doing a lot of model building I can’t recommend them enough!

ive been watching Diorama vids for 3 days now trying to just learn and know how to prepare to get into it, i personally feel like the algorithm isnt shining on you enough yet, YET... couple of the other dudes are level 9000 but a couple of them dont talk much, not real "how to" talking, i really appreciate when the process gets explained/broken down as its happening. IDK how big the audience or market is for this diorama stuff is but I hope you keep at it, still waiting for the next cyberpunk vid!

Another good trick when laying a wood floor is to darken the edges of the individual planks with a brown magic marker. It really makes them stand out.
