Have you ever thought of building your own car? Does the thought of driving a unique one of a kind creation intrigue you? Well then, this video may be just what you are looking for to answer the questions of what does it take, what do I need to know and should I really even take the leap? Follow the construction process of the Arete Supercar project and listen as Jay Jarvie tells what it takes to go from a pile of parts to rolling art.

I'm 23 and started a company a couple years ago, I didn't have much engineering experience and funded my projects by working a construction job. I find my projects and ideas take form much faster and are typically more robust when there are adequate constraints. I dont think its a bad thing to have to budget small and work around issues I believe it sharpens your mind and grounds your idea.

I think there's a lot but this is not a small task. The forge by local mother's got a 116,000 car design submissions. I am optimistic about the future. The Lucra that's never been built the ring others Pantera an Australian GT40 haltech interviewed. Direct digital to manufactured part. If they're was an automotive design platform with digital twins, generative AI, and part ordering it would make custom cars much easier but as it stands the research for what parts, learning CAD, having to weld takes so many skills. High end builds require 150K just in parts 😢. The super performance Daytona Coupe or factory 5 Daytona frame. Janerrelly design 1 front and rear on the Factory Five front mid engine they never made was my dream. With some chip foose E Type in there but even the research design and build is above my ability or pay grade. SEMA opening up there parts database, getting people on the same CAD, streamline part ordering and project planning could really help. My plan is to start with the small readily available parts from a crashed LS7 Z06. Design in Rhino or Blender or AutoCAD unsure. CNC laser cut styrofoam molds with Prepreg carbon fiber base. Laser cut CNC bent tig welded superleggera chassis and a hit formed tucked in roll cage. C6 suspension geometry beefed up tremic and a Ford 9" mated together in the rear inboard suspension like on Detroit speed rampage. 5" ground clearance with hydraulic lift Will wood Carbon 6 piston brakes. Quick Adjustable suspension and rear end that cool exposed shift links. Ricaro seats with the gromits for heated and cooled seats momo vintage steering and seatbelts. Nelson 427 aluminum block pro touring TT LSX. I know it's possible but I doubt many people could even build it. It lives in my head because I don't have a million to pay someone.

Good on you for choosing the 1JZGTE platform. Lesser known that it's big brother the 2JZ, which is ungodly overpriced for all it's parts factory or aftermarket. 1JZ parts seems to still be somewhat reasonable, well, when you consider your working in Supra-Land, lol. Still the 1JZ has heritage and is beautifully smooth. I am honestly shocked that we didn't get it here in america and instead got the 7M-GTE & GE variant, because the 7M having been an old truck motor really wasn't the smoothest of choices in the end, but oh well. Most love the 3.0 platform, but again, that 2.5 is a smooth kitty

In response to your focus on keeping costs down: I once made a custom mold for a Mustang hood out of dirt! I made a 48" x 48" x 8" wood tray and packed dirt in it from the back yard. A hobby-grade CNC router with a ball-end bit "dug" out the mold in one day. I sprayed some water-based adhesive on the dirt to keep it in place and laid down the fiberglass. All of my expectations were exceeded! If I do this again, I'm going to set up the router on the back yard and dig into the ground (that tray was heavy and flexible)!

It's pretty cool that you designed a car yourself and building it yourself. The fact that you were able to do that for under $ 300,000 is truly amazing let alone for nearly 1/10th of that price

I hear many people say it isn't worth it because all the man hours put into it. When the man hours are part of the reward the build process becomes part of why to do these projects, many people have hobbies that they spend thousands of hours and dollars on and never get a supercar at the end. With passion projects like this the man hours are the pay, many people would pay to be able to do work like this
