My friend, you are an inspiration. If I had the funding to do what your doing I would be able to build all these ideas and dreams I've had in my head for so long. So many projects. I even had the idea of doing build give aways. Basically for all the subscribers who donate to the channel for the projects, one lucky winner will get to win it. Then I take the money that's left over and start a new project and keep giving them away. Filming all the projects as I do them. Not for instruction but just for people to see my ideas and how I figure them out and make them reality. So you do what makes you happy. Your a true inspiration to me.

I am a relatively recent university graduate (bachelor's in aviation engineering) and watching your videos really brings back childhood dreams of building my own car. Some part of me wants to buy a rusted out 3-series BMW for parts, get a chassis welded up at my job and try something similar but with quarter the budget and tenth of the expectations. I even thought about making it a somewhat larger 60s style roadster. All the glass fiber work scares me however, since that's way outside my expertise and I don't have the money to pay someone else to do it for me. Until then, I'll probably stick with studying some theory for now and maybe build it on paper first.

Hey Jay, looking through your video history, there are two keywords I see have a high correlation with # of views: “Carbon Fiber” and “Supercar”. Your highest viewed videos have titles like “How to build a supercar from scratch”. When you use both carbon fiber and supercar in the title, you get 100k+ views. Follow the title format “Building a Supercar: [project title] A##” to optimize traffic. And find ways to incorporate carbon fiber into more projects. Also, I’ve noticed when you mention the specific part you’re working on, it drives more views. E.g. “control arms” instead of “subtract ## hours” will get more search hits. I think you could 10x your channel income by doing this. Good luck!
@BuilderCreator Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I have tried a lot of things to see what gets traction. Thumbnails with the whole car are always top performers, but that would become basically the same thumbnail every time. I am trying to do a 4:1 production schedule, with 4 community videos (the nitty gritty boring parts videos) to every 1 discoverable ( Building a supercar with carbon fiber and scantily clad women) videos. ;) Your title format is a great suggestion; it fits both types of video. What really performs well are better videos. I hope I am moving in that direction. And finally, the channels that do really really well are channels with cars that have color and drive; I hope I am moving in that direction as well. Thanks for your suggestions!

I love building/creating videos as much as probably everyone else here does and I have given that a lot of thought over the last few years. I believe these videos are a form of procrastination, I have about 100 projects on the go as you do but I think for me and probably for others - Watching someone else work gives you the same dopamine hit that finishing your own projects does, so instead of having to face the hard work of fixing my roof, I can appease the guilt of not doing that by watching you build a car. That is my 2 cents anyway. What is the brown coating on the chassis btw?

You are a renaissance man, but it seems like you like to start a lot of new projects and then get bored with them before they are completed and move on to something else. I came here to see you build your own super car and that project hasn’t moved forward much in the last six months, which is frustrating as a viewer. I teach lutherie and I deal with individuals who can’t ever seem to complete a project, they love the work and learning the skills but can’t ever seem to finish a full project. They start on one guitar then start on another before the finish the first one and then it gets harder and harder to get any of them finished.

"Is it time to quit my full time job for KZbin?" Unfortunately, most content creators nowadays are moving to making "shorts" because that is what makes their channels grow and makes them more money... Unfortunately? Yes, because that's just youtube's version of TikTok. Not really making content. I've unsubscribed from several channels just because they're not making videos worth while watching. The stuff you have been making. Those videos don't have to be long (as in 30+ minutes), but they are worth while clicking on play. In fact, any video marked as a "short" gets an instant "disqualify" from me and if the content creator keeps on releasing them instead of longer and "juicier" videos... I unsubscribe. Bottom line - If you want to make money from youtube - Make "shorts". And i guess it doesn't matter to you if i unsubscribe or not. Just my 0.02
@BuilderCreator Жыл бұрын
I have been approached by dozens of people wanting to make shorts from my old content, and I knew right off that all it would do was water down my long form, irritate people like you and screw up legitimacy of notifications.
