Certainly, a lot more has to be done in this industry where builders, contractor's and the very people that sign off on these jobs be held accountable with jail time simply handing out Fines isn't working if I'm going to spend my hard-earneded money on something that should be an investment in the future but can't sell because of non-compliant works I don't think I could rely on a broken system to give me justice. Thanks mate for the work you do that you can give some people hope and peace of mind, Respect. Keep up the awesome content!

We went through something similar. It sucks. Lots of stress for nearly six years in our case. Had to take matters into our own hands, hire professionals who could fix it properly then take legal action to recover costs. That's six years of our lives that we were miserable and won't get back all because someone cut a few corners to save a few bucks.

I believe many of the leaky window issues in AU are caused because of a standard aluminum window design that was originally made for brick walls. They are sealed with caulking into the walls. Except now we use all different kinds of cladding. Often different types on the same building. The small groove doesn't allow proper flashing of the windows. Typically, the installer shoves a piece of plastic damp course into the small groove and that's it. In other countries, it wouldn't fly.
@stevem815
@stevem815 Жыл бұрын
Yeah I quite often resort to getting custom metal flashings made up to deal with aluminium windows, but then you struggle with the arcs... Problem is everyone wants things to look cool and function is a distant secondary consideration. Just the fact that people are putting box gutters everywhere is proof of how badly vanity has surpassed common sense.

@thekid4895

Not sure if this is a dumb question or not, but I'll proceed; the cladding material is replaced under warranty but surely someone has to pay for it when the initial installation is conducted in such a piss poor manner, obviously that's not on the home owner as it's the builders responsibility, so does the replacement material come out as a cost to the builder? Secondly, do you have a ball park figure on what the rectification works that were carried out in this video might have cost the builder? Curious only because I'm not one to read instructions, but in the face of thousands of dollars I'm sure I'd take the time to do so as well as being incredibly embarrassed for producing such a poor result initially. Aside from that, absolutely loving your content mate. It's criminal what work is being put out these days and I'm greatly appreciative of someone taking the time to explain it in such an informative and professional manner. Good on ya.

Mate. You need to be training up other people and do inspections for people building. I would pay $1000 for a 3 hour inspection and I reckon I would want it done at least 3 times while the building is being built and a 4 hour inspection $1500 for a final. I am learning so much . Cheers mate 👍

@jameson566 This builder doesn't really give a shit. All those other homes out there that he's built do you think he's going to do the right thing by those home owners. Sadly I think not. 🤔 Maybe a visit should be paid to his current building site and school the home owners a bit in what compliant works should look like. 🤗

Makes me glad I live in an old house. It's had it's issues but at least fixing them doesn't require redoing work that was done only months ago. What a waste either of the owners money if this poor work isn't rectified or the builders money if it is. Indirectly we all suffer as this waste isn't good for the economy.

@MentalLapse09
@MentalLapse09 Жыл бұрын
Bigger ones that do sharply priced volume work, townhouses, apartments etc are generally rubbish. They use the cheapest of cheap, and use the cheapest of cheap subbies. An established builder with a long track record is the best option. A smaller crew, and the boss being involved is what you want. You will pay more, and likely have to wait longer to get them, but the jobs are night and day in quality generally. I spent years as a subbie in residential construction for reference.

Good to see some professionalism in the industry, shame it’s only coming from the inspector. Australians used to take pride in their work, formed part of their identity and builders used to build homes, not just a group of sales team engaging subcontractors. Unfortunately building houses has become a huge part of the governments economic plan for years, more than 30% of the money exchanging hands goes to the government. Mums and dads are the ones have to were it.

I remember when our house got built in the 80's. We had a number of 'issues' that were noticed after moving in and the old man called them back in to fix them. The crew that came back sullenly rectified a number of issues and were sitting out the front having lunch yapping in a foreign language. Unfortunately for them they made two tragic mistakes. The first one was thinking they were safe speaking an Eastern European language ... that unfortunately for them my Belarussian/Ukrainian raised mother could understand more than enough of. The second tragic mistake was pissing off my 6' 4", built like a brick shithouse, Vietnam Veteran father, who was still in the army at the time after my mother told him what they were saying. The second crew that arrived a day later finished ALL of the outstanding jobs ... I believe the first crew were unable to work 'for some time' afterwards ... or chew solid food ... it was a simpler time in the 80's, negotiations were handled very differently ;)

Very bad choice of product from the start it really needs dpc behind the vertical joins. I also can’t see a brad nail holding cladding regardless if it finishes flush or not as the house moves and the framing will expand and contract. People need to realise what they are purchasing and the maintenance and durability of these products. Manufacturers are protected from liability with their installation specs but still their product design and quality is poor.
