There should be an understanding here, taking overheads off donations shouldnt be wrong. Because if you're not using some of that money to invest more into people who will GROW the charity and get a much bigger return to help those in need, youre never gonna be a successful charity. There are Credico sub-companies doing this in every city in the country, it's absolutely infuriating because by design it's impossible to shut down. Every time I look for a new job I spot a bunch of their misleading adverts talking about a "football mindset" and sure enough I spot another sub-company with a dodgy vague website, all doing door to door and city center sales or charity sign ups. I'm at the stage where if someone knocks on my door to try to sign me up for a charity, I ask them who sent them, look up their site whilst I'm talking to them and then warn them they've not going to get paid what's been promised and they're likely working under the Credico umbrella without even knowing it. Every time you out or investigate the companies, those specific sub-companies shut down but the bigger umbrella just keeps going, because the whole reason they're instructed to make their own companies, is to legally protect the larger group (and the people running them get to play pretend that they're entrepreneurs)

I worked for one of these for a year, good experience, but poor wages; it's essential like a lottery, your colleague might get the door, make the sale and you'll look over thinking "if only I had knocked", while you've made none that day, they've made their first, it's 8pm, dark and raining. Literally all the practices presented in this video is exactly how that company was ran, and the exact same practices we were told to follow on the doors. It wouldn't suprise me if they are linked (they have offices up and down the country).

I worked for a company like this in Bournemouth. Absolutely hated it. Felt awful and I had no idea beforehand that it was door to door selling especially monthly payment rather than 1 or 2 pounds towards the charity. Sickening. Just looked at my CV and the company was called Fast Track Promotions

I briefly worked for a company like this about 10 years ago. I was on a talk talk contract going door to door lying to people and tricking people into signing up. I shadowed sales guys for a few weeks while "training" and quit because it was a disgraceful company.

Wasting 15mins of my time talking to one of these wastes of life at my front door prompted me to get a “no cold callers” sign and put it on my door. It’s worked surprisingly well, not a single knock since!

Don't stand there talking just to be polite. Just like street beggars and charity muggers they will take your politeness as a weakness. Just say "NO THANK YOU. We don't have any money. "And close the door.

Unfortunately I once fell for this with a company called fast track promotions. They didn't say it was door to door, they told me in the interview it's a weekly wage of at least £250 per week plus uncapped earnings guaranteed. Only when I was told a week into the job it was only what you made with sales and it wasn't a wage. I lasted just under 5 weeks, and to be honest I was planning on leaving anyway but was told I was a waste of money. That was the longest 5 weeks of my life and probably the worst job I've ever done.

As somebody who used to work as a door-to-door charity fundraiser and made very good money in the process, not only for myself but for the charities 100-fold, I am disgusted at this. They are shitting all over the reputation of good, hard working people who do this for good causes.

I used to work for one too, and it is exploiting many no doubt

@@acespades9286 Not if you understand the business model and the fundraising company adheres to all of the standards set by the charities they fundraise on behalf of. It can be a profitable arrangement for both parties and the charity's initial investment into door-to-door fundraising pays off. I'll always have time for a door-to-door fundraiser on my doorstep, especially a well articulated and well spoken young man, but the moment I detect an ounce of deception I'm out. The fact that this company calls their fundraisers "salespeople" and they call their donors "customers" is enough of a red flag on this company for me.

@@ThinkAhead0 What would I gain from lying about that? I'm happy to be transparent. I was on a £12 per hour basic wage (this was 10 years ago) at the age of 18, I was paid 50p per mile covered in my vehicle and £10 for every passenger I carried. I would usually have £100 in my account before I've even left the office for the day, just for fuel and passengers. I then made £35 for every signup, as each signup was considered to last an average 5 years so was valued accordingly. This is why we had strict compliance on our pitches and the way we spoke to donors - because the better the pitch was, the longer they would continue to donate for, so it was in our best interests and we were incentivised to be open and honest about the charity and not try to be deceitful. There was a bonus structure. So, the more signups you got per week, the more they would be valued. For example 5 signups, they all become worth £40 each and 10 signups they all become worth £50 each etc. I worked my way up to become a Team Leader and I also earned from my team members' signups and had a separate bonus structure based on team performance. All in all we were incentivised to be good hard working honest fundraisers, under STRICT rules and regulations, any false signups and you were dismissed instantly. The company was called HOME Fundraising and they have ran for many many years and are very reputable. They work with some of the biggest charities in the UK (NSPCC, Cancer Research, British Heart Foundation, Marie Curie and many more). So yeah, I made great money. An average of about £1000 per week, and even more if we were on a road trip away in hotels. Food and accommodation completely paid for. We were well looked after but we always turned a huge profit for the charities too. The charities invest in companies like HOME Fundraising in the hope that they receive their investment back ten-fold in regular donations and it's a model that worked for many years until these cowboys started getting involved.

Nice investigation- funny how much the scammers who run the company talked at the start and how little when confronted! The sort of pressure sales tactics used, if used on me are likely to result in a bucket of cold water, or, more legally, me just filming them- you know it's dodgy when a salesperson won't go on camera! I detest this sort of exploitation- both of the "self employed" workers who get no pay and of the vulnerable people they try to get to hand over money. If approached by a "chugger" in the street- I am likely to be extremely rude, but, I'd imagine it'd be quite effective to start recording them with my phone- on facebook live!

I nearly had a job like this. I got to the third stage of the interview process, I was very young and they made me feel I was the perfect candidate, it really boosted my self esteem. There was no mention of it being a commission only until I asked. I didn’t pick up the phone when they called me back with a job offer
