I was 39 when we got married and had never wanted a big wedding. I really wanted to have a destination wedding with just fam and close friends, but my husband's immediate family doesn't fly and they didn't understand me wanting to do it somewhere else. Also, at the time, I was creative director of a wedding magazine, so we ended up having a little more than I wanted. We only had 70 people, the venue was a contemporary art museum and we got married on the dance floor. 15 mins for vows. It was beautiful and fun, but way more expensive than I wanted. Definitely don't let others push you into what you don't want or when. Do you!

I re-used my old cabinet doors, but constructed frames, similar to Macenna's, to go around each of them. This covered up the old 70s scroll indentation that ran around them. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to update their kitchen, but save on cost. It was a lot of work to construct the frames, but so worth it. After I attached the frames to each door, I painted them and installed new handles. My kitchen is unrecognizable, and it saved soooo much money!

You didn't only complete 3 cabinet fronts, you completed 3 90% (trim pieces and painting left) and the other 39 80%, that's a huge step forward and you did it all on one day! :) Also love your view/opinion on marriage. I think we live in a time where a lot of people still ask this question (and also the kids question) out of tradition even though a lot of people are just as happy not being married as they were married. As you said marriage isn't anything else than a legal paper that just adds to a relationship you already have. The most important thing is that you and Romeo are happy and the way you spoke about him with so much love just warmed my heart! I wish you two all the best for your relationship and your future life together, married or not!
@Lucinda_Jackson
@Lucinda_Jackson Жыл бұрын
I agree to a point. There's something magical about what happens with the ceremony and that silly piece of paper that binds you legally to one another. I felt much the same way when I married and was surprised by how it deepened our relationship in a way I didn't think was possible. It's for her and Romeo to decide, of course, and I know they will be happy together no matter what. I just want her to experience that little extra level. 🤷🏼‍♀️ And I have to admit that I think it's important to children that their parents be married.

Right! Those old southern superstitions that act as if pregnant women might catch a spell if they lift their hands above their head still exist today. I remember when my sister-in-law was pregnant she refused to sweep or vacuum, sighting her mom taught her that it could cause her to lose the baby, yet when I was 'with child,' I was moving furniture and hanging sheetrock. There are limitations of course, but come on.

I admire you so much for building your own kitchen cabinets. You do such nice work on all of your projects. I’ve always enjoyed thrifting. My parents took me and two of my sisters along with them when they would go to junk stores in my small town of NE Alabama in the late 60’s. My parents house was filled with antiques throughout. By the early 70’s my mom wanted all new furniture and she got it. I never new what happened to the antiquities. Perhaps the delivery guys took it all as they brought in the new. Thankfully, my mother had a beautiful early 1900’s buffet in the kitchen and never got rid of that so thankful I ended up with it and I had it refinished. I always pictured my home being full of antiques and I had a few but then after my husband and I had our two boys I decided to go with more practical furnishings. After my boys left home and we left Northwest Houston and retired to Hot Springs Arkansas. I have a more traditional new and old mix in my home. About 90% of the accessories are thrifted. Have a great week! ❌⭕️❌⭕️ March 6, 2023

I totally agree with your thoughts about marriage and vowes and people around. We did a super small ceremony (just us and the parents). And even there we were almost bursting with laughter because it felt so pretentious what the wedding hall lady was saying. So many people were saying "without a proper wedding it won't last", "you are not taking it seriously", "you will wish you had a big wedding" etc. Well, 20 years later still married, still happy, and still not regretting that small wedding :)

My husband and I just got married on February 3rd!!! I was a beautiful small wedding and everything we dreamed of. We also went into it just knowing it was about connecting and soaking in the memories. I wouldn't have had it any other way.

You might consider hiring the bathroom crown out. We did all the "easy" (no weird angles) rooms but hired someone to do the room with the crazy cuts. But....if anyone can figure it out I know it's you. Your videos are as amazing as you! Can't wait to see all those beautiful cabinets.

I'm in TX again but I can't wait to get back to NM to keep working on MY house! You're so motivating! I've learned so much from you and even picked up design and style tips. Also, I couldn't sleep last night and YT suggested for me to watch one of your old Coachella videos from years ago. It was...surreal. LOL.

“She’s mine!!!” Hahah loved that so much. You two clearly adore one another and as a mother of a young daughter, nothing would make me happier in my soul than to hear my daughter say the same thing about me 😊❤. It’s a beautiful thing to watch the two of you together.

So I redid my bathroom, also an old porch slanted roof. Sadly I didn't notice the slant until I was at crown project. What I did, I made level line for bottom of crown, and put in spacer pieces around top where it was showing. I think it helped hide the slant, but also there's a lil character in it.

Everything I know about woodworking I learned from Norm of This Old House. Rabbits and Dados and champfers. Introverts can adapt because society demands us to be outgoing, but it wears us down so fast. At the beginning of the pandemic I felt I had the advantage over extroverts during quarantine because I was in my comfortable place.

A little furniture wax on the base and fence of your router jig or table saw helps with big project like this. The wood doesn't stick so much as you push it through and can give your arms a bit of a break

Please do a cost comparison on cabinet making versus buying versus partial diy. That would be most helpful to those of us considering making our own cabinets.

Re: You, Romeo and marriage. My partner and I were living together for 33 years prior to getting married this past October. We always felt married anyway but as we are getting older we felt it was time to get our affairs in order and legal. Surprisingly being married vs living together really does feel different! I never thought it would!. Just my two cents and experience.
