This was a great video, not only for the tech tips and arrow building advice but for the genuineness T-Bone brings to the process. It's so refreshing to see "a good ol boy's" approach to a this discipline. In a forum that is full of alpha type personalities all struggling to make their opinion, the only opinion, it sure is nice to get this honest approach. Nothing being force fed or pushed on you as a must have, just a good hearted opinion by a fella who's tried and true. Thank you T-Bone, I sure like your style. God bless you and get well soon, we need you. Fan from Canada

I’ve found my ethics 100 gr SS inserts fit kinda loose in my gold tip hunter XT 250 and in my Easton 6.5 matrix also. It seems the gold tip brass 100gr inserts fit perfectly. But I wanted that strength and integrity of the steel insert and to make it tighter I found some auto body tape. It looks like a roll of duct tape made of aluminum foil. I cut a tiny strip and wrapped it around the insert on the low side that is machined into it. It just happened to fit perfectly. And do yourself a favor and use a good two part epoxy like DP100, something from loctite will work good also. Don’t waste time with the archery specific insert glues. They suck. They all seem to set up so quickly that youl end up with inserts half sticking out. You need to spin test your insert with a broad head looking for straightness before you glue it, and you need to make an index mark with a pen. The standard insert glues like 30-06 and G5 and Easton glue(idk about other brands) they set up too fast and leave zero opportunity to align your index mark on your insert. Once you get an insert glued in your not getting it out without ruining the arrow shaft. The only way to avoid that is use hot melt. Downside of hot melt is it’s not nearly as strong as epoxy. But it does work just make sure your entire insert is coated top to bottom
@NPC-fl3gq
@NPC-fl3gq 3 жыл бұрын
You can actually remove inserts that are epoxied in (usually)... you guessed it, just heat up the insert (apply heat to a steel target point) and they'll usually come out. If not (and you don't mind replacing the insert) just use some pliers to create some toothmarks around the outside of the insert (so you've got a lot more grip on it) and try the heat trick again - works best with aluminum inserts.

Wow these comments are out there. T-bone has been doing this for awhile. I see folks saying that they are just jumping on the trend. I remember seeing a video 5 or 6 years ago where waddy talked about his arrow. If I’m not mistaken he was running a heavy setup with the havocs. Sounds to me that jealousy is eating people up.

Great vid! Would be interested to see someone test 3M 08008 adhesive for its vibration-dampening properties on the interior of the arrow collar and securing the insert. 3M makes some good, pliable adhesives. Some strong stuff made for automobiles with vibration dampening effect... may be on to something with arrow builds?.

The only reason I'd ever four fletch is if I was planning to shoot a heavy arrow with a very heavy fixed blade at relatively close distances - coz it'll get that heavy weight spinning more quickly out of the bow. No point at long range or with normal weight arrows.

Good arrow build. When installing inserts I like to use the low heat glue. The inserts can be rotated or removed with ease. Try removing the nock when pushing in the insert so the air pressure inside does not want to push the insert out. Acetone cleaner will discolor and eat-up the plastic nocks, so make sure you remove before cleaning. I have been doing this stuff for over 40 years and still enjoy learning something new.

As soon as ranch fairy is brought up I gotta chuckle. The dude over and over explains how he knows nothing. He'll say stuff like you know what that means? He'll reply nothing. He always says stuff like you dont have to be smart you have to have smart friends. He teaches people on how to have excuses and sucks at shooting so bad that he has to make fun of the professionals that do. He mocks longer drawlength and is constantly teaching people how to have excuses. I'm cool with any grain arrow that you want to shoot. But dont do it because ranch fairy told you to. Hes all for dumbing things down but makes himself look dumb doing so. I watch his videos for the laugh. But never have I ever learned a thing. He teaches common sense in a dumb way. Theres 2 things that matter more than anything when killing an animal. Arrow flight and broadhead sharpness. T bone has been playing this game for a while and explains it in a super professional way, keep up the good work man.

Very interesting, but I can't agree that all the innovation is in the 100gr broadhead market. Years ago this was true, but I do not believe this is the case now. I think the current trend is moving to 125gr and heavier. We have seen many broadhead models now designed and offered in a 125gr version. The high FOC movement started this shift, although I agree the insert system is a major factor now in FOC. The theory of fletching cleaning out the wound channel is a new one. I tend to think even the stiffest vane material will bend and collapse when forced against tissue, but who knows. The Last Chance fletching jig does offer a measured degree of offset, BUT, the user is limited to those specific settings. With the Bitzenberger, the degree of offset is infinitely adjustable. This allows to get as much offset as the diameter of the shaft and length of the fletch will allow in any specific combination of the two. The Bitzenberger also has a true helical clamp as an option in addition to a straight clamp. Many other jigs claim to have helical, but really are just straight offset, which is what the Last Chance appears to have. You still get rotation, but a true helical is better yet as it wraps around the shaft. I think because of this, the Bitzenberger is the the best fletching jig and has been for decades. But, options in equipment is never bad. To each his own.

Ashby was talking FOC was meant for recurve and long bows. FOC is so overrated. When it comes to compound bows. People using bowling balls for arrows. 10 to 12 inch drop at 5 to 10 yards. Talk about accuracies out the window. Deer jumping the arrow. Speed is very important. When it comes to a arrow. It takes speed too push that arrow. You aren't picking up any KE in using those bowling balls. You are picking up momentum, but if that deer walks from 20 yards to 30 yards. You have 12 inch drop on your pin 📌. No you shouldn't use darts, but bowling balls either. Everyone is over HYPED on FOC . They aren't even using a FOC arrow. TAPPERED ARROWS. Happy medium people speed is just as important. With today's bows you don't need all those bowling balls. 400 to 450 kill anything. Today's bows 70lb 380 kill anything in NA. Over 500gr. You're just stupid. 🧚‍♂️ talking 600 up to he used 1000 gr what a --

Only thing I do differently is I cut mine first...I shoot 26. 5" carbon to carbon and I cut equal amounts from both ends.... BONES ARROWS ARE DAMN 50$ AN ARROW... that way I can buy a little cheaper arrows and they'll still cut down to .001-.00025 straightness... most companies measure straightness at 28" so you cut from both ends and you can turn a .0003 into a .001

fOC doesn't pull shit. the biggest thing is that you have less plaining off with fixed blades. there is less steering from the vanes if you have a light back end. mass is mass it does not matter where the mass is it hits with the same energy and momentum. i love FOC not for "it pulls the arrow through the target" its the forgiveness of spine and steering of a fixed blade or long-range shooting.

Love that video! I'm using three vanes with same colour for exactly the same reasons. I prefer to screw in the broadhead into the insert first and align the blades with the vanes while gluing. In my opinion this result in a tad more precise arrow flight, especially with fixed blade broadheads. I like the Bohning 4" Impulse vane. I don't care if they marketing it as a recurve vane, low profile, quiet and sturdy.

VANES THE SAME COLOR,....Then you can buy one pack of vanes instead of 3 the Archery industry will hate you for that. I only do that on 4 fletched crossbow arrows. I deliberately buy old Fred Bear Compound bows because I can make strings for them,... too bad Archery Industry. If you want to see the strength of Gorilla Glue,....space out 3 drops on your wifes best china,.......then put it in the microwave till it bubbles,.......then sit it on the counter. Then you know its really strong. The great thing about this video is its not only how to build a heavier arrow it's a more durable arrow. He left out where you can get better arrow building components,....Lancaster Archery would be my guess. 3Rivers may have some of this stuff. Don't go to Amazon till you can choose American manufacture over Chinese stuff,...you want your order in a few days not a few months. I ordered I think Bohning Bronco vanes from Midway USA got them in 4 days. I ordered vanes from Walmart..com,...I have already installed the midway vanes a week ago wally world vanes were supposed to be here November 4th so I check the order status and the order is just sitting somewhere? It says in transit, Delayed,... Arriving late,....don't give China your business. I ordered Arrows then I got to thinking about the large range the arrows it claimed to fit,...... there was no such arrow I showed the seller a spine weight chart and got a refund,...6 months later the arrows arrived. Never even opened them. Great video,... some of the stuff they sell/ crossbows I watched a kid shoot a little doe with a crossbow,..... the arrow bounced off the Bambi and Bambi looked around and started eating again. So yeah you want heavier arrows.

Great content! you can take this a step further by putting your arrows onto a roller, sometimes it may be required to cut the arrow at the nock end if there is slight wobble versus just always cutting your shaft at the field point edge. This can help make the straightness tolerance better, it will make the decals on the bow not match up, but perfect arrow flight should trump looks any day of the week!

Do some trick stuff for bare bow!! Throw back to the roots that made all this possible. In 1970 when I was a little boy would never thought t would be like this. I like the open sharing of info. You don’t see that a lot in a competitive sport like ours. Thank you T-Bone for sharing.

This guy is easy to watch he's cool and humble, so many youtubers are cocky arrogant shit talkers, but this guy just gives you his experience in a good, clean way thanks T-Bone and good luck hunting

You had me with your arrow build, FOC, heavy inserts, squaring, choice of vanes but lost me when putting on a mechanical broadhead. This became the weakest part of your build, it needs to handle the KE of that heavy arrow. A sharp cut on contact broadhead would make it bomb proof. Great Video Travis I always enjoy listing to you and the Bone Collector gang, keep it coming.

Great instruction, just one ? How important is it to have the blades of the broad head line up with the fletchings ?

I am unable to get the factory inserts out of my arrow. I have used the drill bit trick and it didn’t work. What else should I do?

Great content t-bone, I been putting that rubberize glue on the ends of my fletch for 35 years now and good to see one of the greats been doing it also. It does make a difference in the life of the vanes if you have pass through shots on targets or animals. I like these types of videos would love to see more.
