Damn that ramp design is fantastic, what an awesome idea. The metal might be overkill but you'll never have to worry about the wood rotting and that hinge idea is brilliant. The whole shed is gorgeous.

You could go with torchdown on the ramps to protect the plywood. I'd say both smooth or granulated would work

Happy this got suggested to me. My granddad on my dads side is a carpenter and built his own home from nothing with my great grandpa. My grandpa on my moms side was a metal erector. And then there's me who never learned either lol. I've always had a huge interest in building things, but because of cost i can't take the financial risk of doing something wrong. Love this video.

Hell, yeah dude saving this one for tonight, I was thinking about something similar in my backyard as well but unfortunately, I am right on the edge of city limits and they require 6 feet from your neighbors fence and I only have about 12 feet from my house to the fence, it would have been perfect for something long and skinny. Also, I met a new friend last week that has an 03 boosted Mustang and told him I was inspired by your build and he knew exactly who I was talking about.

Great project and vid. One design and structure comment: your roof structure has limited shear bracing. American construction typically has sheet panel sheathing under the roof material which does much of that role. Depending on the gauge of the steel roof you used it is going to have bracing effect but with inherent flex and movement it's a bit deficient in the flat horizontal plane at the top of the wall level. It's usual to add full corner to corner diagonal at ceiling joist level or at least cross bracing on each roof plane to do this. Ply shelving layer on ceiling joists is superb way to do this. Nice shed tho, love the ramps, nice work on getting that trapezoid shape to touch level on both the floor and ground!
@Kordare
@Kordare Ай бұрын
Thanks a lot! And yeah my house has that diagonal shear bracing you mentioned. With how small the roof is, the combination of purlins and the metal itself seems to do the job sufficiently.
@DiscoFang
@DiscoFang Ай бұрын
@@Kordare Yeah it is amazing during construction how adding sheet roofing suddenly adds massive lateral rigidity to a garage. Your construction is definitely pretty burly as it is. If you ever felt it needed it you could add them across the mid rafter ties. Either strapping or ply.

You made it look easy! Great video! One suggestion for the ramps, consider using a non-skid finish. My shed is a few years old and as the plywood ages, it has become very slippery. When I (someday) get around to replacing it, it will be finished with non-skid. Maybe just mix sand with the paint/stain.

Awesome video as always Kordare. This was another amazing build for an awesome place. Two things is when you Stain the ramps you may want to put rubber strips on for more grip going up and down when it’s wet and where it’s open under the roof you may want to put So that critters won’t make a nest in your shed where you don’t want them too.

@williamguillIII
@williamguillIII Ай бұрын
@@Kordare Yeah, if you had a block foundation, they would be called rim joists that sat on a sill plate on top of the blocks. Most carpenters use the term headers for the box/beam/vertical that's above doors and windows. You definitely built it very sturdy. I'd suggest you block in the spaces between rafters/truss' on your top plate , up to the metal sheeting, to keep out bugs, birds, and other critters making your shed their new home....hehehe! You did a great job and obviously thought this whole build out and learned as much as you could before tackling this project! Attention to detail is key in doing quality work, and, you nailed it.....pun intended!!

I had a local shed company make my 10x20 shed. My regret now is I didn’t have ridged insulation put into the floor. The shed at that time was not heated but now that I’m retiring soon and I’m in the process of heating and insulating it. If you scuff the plywood with a big wirewheel on a grinder, can you use spray on bed liner like RaptorLiner? I would think a few coats, and then a final one at 24-36" away would make it not be slick. I would imagine that paint would get dirty and slick quick.

You may want to add gutters on the rear of the shed. Even though your siding is far away from the ground, you will definitely have erosion issues right near where your footers are. In just the little time that this shed has been up you got a good water line. Imagine years later that's going to be much more severe.

I'll keep an eye on it but this soil is literally all slate so I'm betting the erosion will be almost non existent

Sorry I’m always asking questions, but I’m going to try and get it out of the way. Thank you, if you can answer them ❤ 1. How much is needed down for the loan ? I’ve heard to use construction loans, if so can I put 3.5% down 2. Where do I even begin ?! Do I contact the bank first, finding company’s to do all the work is sooo freaking hard, I have to find like 80 different people. Then I have to get quotes from them. I’m thinking of going with a contractor. But even if I do get an estimate, let’s say all cost should be 100k. So I get approved for that amount then it ends up being 150k ?

Sounds like you should find a builder/general contractor first and get a bunch of quotes. It's up to you to determine what you can afford but my advice is to put down more like 20% so you have more equity from the start. You'll need to talk with your bank or a credit union to determine how much you can borrow to really figure out what your budget is.

I had to watch muted but asked the ai thing if it was mentioned... why isnt the fascia painted and why isnt there a soffit to keep critters out?
@Kordare
@Kordare 8 күн бұрын
The fascia is pressure treated, so I need to wait a few months before it can be painted. I'll likely add soffit, just haven't yet.
