Absolutely been loving the pond build guys. From my experience of having ducks. They will not go back into the coop unless you run them in there yourself every night. Plus ducks will not climb ramps. They are ground nesters. They don't roost or go to boxes like chickens. Your best bet will be to add a large house or cover on the island. Have it about 1-2ft high. Enough to just get under it. The hawks won't go under it. It being out on the island will keep ground predators from getting to them and the babies.This is all from self experience of owning ducks for years.

Hello, have really enjoyed watching the 5 AC pond build. If you want to keep the ducks safe you are going need to get them to come back to the house you provided once they are allowed access to the pond. My suggestion would condition them to a food they can't resist, like crickets, mealworms, etc. Only feed that in the house. To condition. Use a clicker (metal cricket) to alert them to the treat. Once conditioned they will come running for the treat.

Ducks do not roost... they will also have a hard time with that ramp depending on what breed of ducks you get. A good ratio to keep is at least 5 females to 1 male. They need to have water access inside the coop if they have food. Ducks have to dip their entire bills to clean their nostrils. You will need to leave them locked in the coop the first few weeks so they know where home is too.

Hi I'm Robert from Germany and I love your Videos! Fishing is my biggest passion and having a lake for yourself is a true dream. How about putting a Duck-House on the island too so the Ducks stay there over night if they want to. Looking forward to see the next Video. Robert

It would be cool if the chicken coop was designed like a prison and located on Alcatraz Island
@pow85433 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I was thinking that coop was too far from where the ducks will be spending all there time. They need something for cover near/on the water.

It’s killing me waiting to see the pond full.

Use fishing line to tie the decoys and you’re gonna have problems with the all the Ducks getting back in after dark so the automatic door might be a problem

That's what I thought, some of them might get locked out.

The pond is looking AWESOME! Duck names. Drake - Doc Holiday. Hen - Big-nosed Kate, Doc and Kate, for short. The 'ground' wire is an excellent addition to the duck coop. To further prevent my dogs digging out of the backyard, I use cheap hook shaped aluminum/steel tent stakes to really anchor the wire to the ground. This gives the grass time to grow over and thru the wire. A hungry fox. bobcat or raccoon can get pretty smart!

Duck decoys was a great idea. Good suggestion from everyone who thought of it!
