I recently decided to begin building a training set up in my yard to train for Crankworx Slopestyle events. This kicker build video is the first of many to show you guys what I'm up to and how I will be training as a Slopestyle athlete!
The ramp is 9' tall, about 20' long, has a 16.5' radius, and a 60 degree angle at the top.
We used two sheets of 7/8" ply for the sides, two and a half sheets of 1/2" ply for the face, roughly five 10' 2x6s, and about fifteen 2x4s.
As for screws, we used 3" torx drive deck screws for framing, and 1-3/4" screws for sheeting.
leave a comment, like, and subscribe for more!!! Let me know what you guys want to see!!!

I find it more enjoyable watching a drill be used to put in screws.... when a impact driver should be used - made a job harder than it needed if the right tool was used.... Otherwise very well done just need to do the math for what a 16 foot radius at 9 foot tall will require for a landing at distance height and speed but lucky there is an app or website that can easily give that info

🙏🙏🙏 best big MTB ramp build I have found, also best method for lightweight I’ve seen with wood!! Trying to build 7 1/2 foot for my 8 foot lander airbag. Any advice on finding my radius options?

I’d recommend doing about a 12.5 or 13 foot radius! Hit me with any questions you have along the way!!

I just made a 7’ kicker with 12’ radius. We have a 8’ airbag coming in as well. Hopefully our radius isn’t too steep.

The 16.5' radius you chose is interesting. In my own experiments with ramp building I have found that any ramp, regardless of height, with less than a 16' radius will give an unpleasant kick to bikes with 27.5" wheels and larger. Beginners absolutely hate those kicky, small radius ramps. As the radius gets to 16' and larger, the kick goes away and the ramp feels smoother and smoother as the radius gets larger. My question to you is, have you noticed the same thing when experimenting with the ramp radius or did you just choose a 16.5' radius for this jump as an almost arbitrary setting?

I agree with you 99%. I typically prefer long mellow transitions, and this in my opinion still classified into that range, however it is pushing the limits of that. I will be primarily riding it on my dirtjump bike which has no rear shock and a smaller wheelbase, and I also am planning on setting this kicker up into an airbag landing with a relatively short gap (15-20 feet). I’ve ridden a LOT of ramps recently all over the country and I always make it a point to pick the builders brain on his geo, and I came to the conclusion that this ramp at 9’’ high, 16.5’ radius, and 60° angle at the top is perfect for what I need. I’ll be sure to make a new video when i get it set up and tested, and if it sucks, I’ll build a new one haha. Thanks for the well thought out comment!!!

@DavidLiebBIKE
@DavidLiebBIKE 4 жыл бұрын
It’s actually a bit smaller. This is at 9 feet or just under 3 meters. A typical gold or diamond level slope course has 10 to 12 foot or 4 meter take off ramps.
