Building a Better Shed Base

This was a long-overdue job that I tackled towards the end of the UK's first lockdown in May 2020. I had bought and assembled this shed back in August 2015... But hadn't done a good enough job in many places and had slowly seen it deteriorate through time and neglect!
In the next video, I'll show you how I put the shed back together, on its stronger foundations and then made improvements to the roof.

Thank you, John! I still work with tools on a day to day basis and mostly make furniture... But I'm employed, in someone else's workshop and don't do as much in my own time as I used to. I'm very much a "KZbin viewer" these days... And of course, I still keep up with your videos. ;-)

You are quite right, Jon and I'm sorry for that. I lost some of the video footage and the time and I've failed to recover it, which has led to me procrastinating. a tarp under your shed will collect water and pool constantly damp.a good permiable weed barrier is the way to go

Actually, when I came to dismantle this shed about 18 months ago, the cheap tarp had mostly rotted away, left in tatters. I've had weed suppressant membranes before and found they don't last any longer and always let some weeds through.

Well ot will definitely be stronger. I still am curious as to why you went through all that work making a grid with short pieces rather than Frame a square to fit your shed then put full length floor joist in between the two sides? You use less materials and a whole lot less time to put it together plus it will be much stronger.

Thanks for your comment. It's mainly because the foundations (flagstones and tarp) weren't flat or level. I could've spent more time working on that... But I'm a woodworker and went with the posts. ;-) Thanks for watching.

Hello Mike! Yours was the first Mike I thought of! Good to hear from you. I believe you're still active on the forums. I'm still working with wood on a daily basis. Employed by a wood recycling CIC, although not sure how long I'll stay. Uncertain of where and what to do next. I haven't had my own workshop for nearly eight years, sadly. Stuck in the rental market. My spare time now is generally spent hiking and cycling, sometimes running. How are things with you?

@@OllyParryJones Good to hear you're still involved with wood, and I hope you find a way to having your own workshop one of these days. All's good here (well, a dodgy hip excepted). I have a great workshop, and have spent the last 7 years restoring and extending a 300 year old cottage. Loads of woodwork. When that's finished next year I will start building a wooden boat. Until my hip went I too was a keen cyclist. 5000 miles a year, usually. Two years ago I cycled down to Spain to see my daughter wwho lives there. I've just finished building a fantastic new bike shed, which served mainly to remind me what I'm missing. I'm only on Woodhaven 2 these days. It'd be good to have you join us if you wanted. Otherwise I'll drop in to your KZbin channel now and then to stay in touch. All the best. Mike

Sorry to hear about your hip, Mike but the cottage, I imagine, has been quite the project. Glad to hear you're still building those sheds and keeping them occuppied. I'll try to drop in to the Wood Haven 2 some time. I haven't been on the forums properly for years. I've found it hard, not having a workshop of my own. All the best to you too, Mike.
