This type of technique and products have been used for years. The first time I saw it used was about 40 years ago during construction of a steak house. If you have everything tied in, like corners and walls, it’s fine under normal weather conditions. I’m more impressed with the facility and the students who want to learn the construction trade. It’s a great career, as well as rewarding (if you’re good). Thanks for the video.

I really, really appreciate how you go out of your way to show and demonstrate new products. This guy is just a kid & trying to make a living; probably went thru the company's training, and now poor guy is tasked with training the professionals....but hey, he did demonstrate. I have done this a few times over the years, very quick and very effective. Not used Quickcrete, just a standard render mix with chopped polyester fibre.. works really well

David, I am not as nearly as skilled a mason as you are but, common sense and rationality dictates that this stuff cannot provide the same structural integrity as mortared joints w/ rebar. I would use this stuff to clean up/ repair a wall though or make a decorative finish

in a standard brick and mortar wall, the motor holds the block in place and the block is acting as a formwork until its filled with concrete and reinforcing and that has dried, that's where all the strength comes from. not the block or motor

I actually used this stuff ten years ago ,,, did two foot knee wall for a steel building 30 feet wide ,, and a section four feet high on one side for the wood stove area. The wall is still holding fine thru a decade of Northern Maine winters. I am not a mason and would not have been able to due a conventional mortar joint wall. It worked for me ,,,

US Mix makes a bonding mortar similar to this called Q Bond. The stuff is strong as heck thanks to the polymers and fiber reinforcement. Super product for patching/plastering old stone foundations. 💪

Its a great product i used it For the first time 5 years ago on a old stone fondation wall that had holes all threw it. The mortor was so old it turned to dust dirt. Ended up filling a ton of holes & build a whole new wall. I love this stuff works great. Poor guy looks like hes having a hard time with that trowl & mixing way to lose. I know you guys must be pulling your hair out an trying with all your mite not to rip that trowel out of his Hand ( gimmey that😂

This has been around for a long time. You used to need to make your own. Most supply houses carried chopped fiberglass to add to fine sand mortar mixes. It’s very similar to diamond wall thin coat stucco mix. I’ve read it was originally developed to build cisterns.

It's cool and decorative definetly a good alternative to stucco here in the north but i'd still mortar those joints. It seems like a really tough finish would be good for pool areas I think like pool showers and walls that get allot of chemical soaked water on them.

I used over 50 bags of this on my basement exterior before back filling, mainly as a water proofer. I tar coated it next. You are supposed to wet cure it for at least 24 hours to expect any strength. It's a very good product and I will use it again, but not the way it's been demonstrated here..

I live in Arizona and the walls built around the houses here the cinder block is literally staked on top of one another with a little bit of mortar. After a while you can see through where the mortar is supposed to be. Short of tearing down the wall and starting again there is not much you can do to fix them, maybe this product will help strengthen the wall a bit.

If properly applied 1/4" thick to dry stacked block , would this be strong enough for a 4' tall foundation wall ? Would a building inspector approve it, assuming the required footing, rebar and grouted cells that a mortared block wall would need ? Strong enough to have all cells filled solid without needing any bracing ? Seems like the inherent damp proofing would be a plus for foundation walls.

Seems like a cool solution for a smaller non structural DIY wall. I would probably feel a lot safer if I were to put in some rebar and concrete like with normal block if I was going to build a bigger wall/fence or something with this sort of a solution.

LOL, you can tell the demonstrator dude is a PHONY, he's rarely handled any tools. He looked like a toddler making mud pies for the first time. Also, all that BS about the wall being stronger than whatever. Odell, you're a nice guy, had you been one of those rude and ruthless kind of dudes you would of handed him his ass. Wonder how he's going to feel once he reads all the comments on here. That is some good stuff, but not the way he's trying to push/sell it. I feel this would be good in areas like DC or NY where owners spend thousands to tuck-pointing brick with deteriorating mortar. I would try this on the back and sides of a building where appearance may not matter.

I can only imagine the liability this would leave quikcrete open to. I wonder what the fine print on the bag says? I am however, tempted to use the product as a facing for areas where I need it aesthetically, and for art projects.

It'll hold but will it meet code and what about engineering? I like their products and i like the quick dry but I don't think it will replace bonded and filled block wall. it may be strong but not strong enough. Definitely need thicker coating, even a scratch coat is a quarter inch.

Id say thicker coats do matter. Im skeptical of this product though. Id ask what the overall verdict is but wouldn't want to put anyone "on the spot" so to speak. My gut tells me old school mortar rebar etc tried n true is the way to go. Only time will tell with this product itd be interesting to eventually find out. Damn good video as always either way! 👍

I used this stuff as a finish coat, not structural, on a 40x60 ag building that is in the ground 6 foot on one long side and about 2.5 foot on the other. We still filled every other hole tube with concrete and rebar for the actual strength. I figured stronger than stucco but still provides a nice finish on the inside. Been almost 2 years now, no problems so far. We did tar and plastic the outside before pushing the dirt back in place. Nothings bowed, nothing leaning. I'd use it again. Special order from the big orange home repair chain.

Different areas of the country call for different tichniques. In the North we have to wet, mortar paint the block, and then apply the product. Codes require mortared joints with reinforcement rod. Then plaster the exterior over an insulation product.

This product could ,indeed, work as it's beneficial to have the tensile forces resisted on the outermost surface (. Think monocoque , honeycomb panels etc) Plus there is a lot of bonding surface area. Need to make sure enough "whiskers" are spanning the joints though...and allow for a proper cure.

David, I'm building a ~4'x2' rectangular gas firepit enclosure with 8x8x16 block , 2 courses and a one piece cast concrete top cap. I'm going to finish with stone veneer. To be fair on the product, it really hadn't cured enough and was put on with an inconsistent thickness. You can clearly see it wasn't properly cured as when they handled the mix, the fibres easily came out of it. Probably be OK after 4 hours outside, in the sun and wind, but not in an air conditioned building. The big advantage I see with this product is for rendering over uneven walls, say decorative coarse finished brick or walls with heavily recessed bond lines. The fibre will give the mix the body to fill those voids and prevent cracking on cure.

This is essential to ensure proper hydration of the thin surface application." So they want you to keep it wet during hydration. I'm sure that would add a lot of strength.

That’s what I was thinking. This seems a little crazy but I’ve seen guys make a table out of Surecrete’s GFCR countertop mix (only about 1/2 in thick) and had four dudes standing on it four hours after it was poured. If this is 1/4 inch thick on all sides...? Maybe don’t build a house with it but you could probably do a lot with it.

Shouldn't you have waited longer than 4 hours from application to test the strength? I used this product on about a 4 block stack many years ago, then let it set completely (weeks or months) and could not kick the blocks apart.

Agree with many of the comments. It seems that if you get a thick enough coat on all sides with the aid of the fiber, a wall could be strong enough to rival, with the right conditions, a rebar and mortar wall. But the mix does not seem to spread well and looks like added cost in material, more hand time = higher labor cost, and ultimately a weaker product. Cannot see a benefit.

As a HOMEOWNER and non-cement/concrete contractor...I have always appreciating watching a company lay concrete block. I always WISHED there were a product which would allow me to stack block like legos and than just butter it up like frosting on a cake. THIS is that product. Their website mentions "garden wall, planter, mailbox support, and outside kitchen" and meant to be used on "small projects." As a concrete amateur I'd use it because building concrete block the way I've seen LOOKS complicated. I'm not saying I WOULD USE IT, but there is a MARKET out there that can LEGALLY build non-structural walls with a STUCCO product...and they will find this product and make outside BBQs, grills, kitchens, short retaining walls, planters...etc... AND there will be PROS who use it for the same purposes... It doesn't save on labor so its NOT specifically tailored for contractor use...more of the DIY intimidated by the idea of making a legit block wall.

So many variables to this product working as designed. Not sure how building regulators would approve it for housing. The colouring and mixing method is problematic for consistent colour matching. Every splash of water changes the shad on one batch to the next.
