Building a Box Blind Part 2

Here is the second part of building the box blind. We ran in to issues during bracing because we didn’t have the right length or enough lumber. Plus like dummys, we forgot to bring ladders. But with 2 of us, a RZR winch, and the ladder I built for the blind we finally got it raised. Then with the help of 3 guys, we got the blind walls up amd together. This project took off and on about 3 weeks, but it will be worth it to get out of the cold and being able to bring the kids hunting with us.

This was a good video. I’ve been kicking around the idea of doing one. Once winter is over I’m gonna do it. Don’t think I’ll go as tall because standing it up seemed to be the hardest(most dangerous) part. I really like the idea of ripping the studs instead of all that added weight. Loved it when your little daughter slowly walked up to the camera and said, daddy can't do it. I about died 😂. That is truly a video of how things actually go when you try to get a blind erected. Looks like the one we built a few years ago, had same problem with roof. It’s not from getting banged around, we just had to lift a couple of the legs to level everything. If roof sticks out on left raise right leg, takes some fooling around but worth it. We left it alone for the first year but then it started leaking. Next one I build will have 12” overhang.

Planning on doing the same thing in a few mo ths.. Think I'm gonna use a couple eye bolts and make a Bridel to pull same amount on Both corners of the blind. Might stop the torque don't know but I'm gonna try it... Love the video thanks

Why didn’t you angle the ladder towards the center of the blind? It would keep it out of the elements and you wouldn’t have had to change the x brace. Ladders with any rain will weaken and become dangerous.

Can you do an update on the blind - how it is holding up, what have you harvested, what would you have done differently now that is has been a while, any improvements you have made since video #2 ....? Enjoyed the 2 videos, I just finished building my first blind, I did not put it high - just on cinder blocks. That was a good call for me and the location.

Nice! I'm looking to do something similar for next year's season. Couple of questions: - Could you give an approximate total of how much $ you've got in the total build (including the brackets and what brand those are)? -Are you planning on insulating the bottom? My research shows that will really help retain heat and reduce any inadvertent noises from inside the blind. Thanks for sharing your process!

Mark Hulette I wanna day total price was around $550. We tried to cut cost anywhere we could. We ordered the brackets from academy sports. They are called elevator brackets. You can also find them on amazon. We were going to insulate it but we have a propane heater we will place inside. I am gonna put a 1/2” thick rubber stall mat inside on the floor. That way the office chairs will roll quietly and also if we were to drop something it wouldn’t make that loud thump....lol

Looks Like a Great Stand.. I'm Building one 5' x 8' with 8' 4x4's. However I'm Trying to build it by myself. I am going to carpet the inside after i use a rubber mat, for noise reduction, seems I've seen the best bucks after, a nap.. Raising mine, I also needed help. After thought, put stakes in the ground at the legs' on the ground and use a stay pole, upright a stand with one person.., Under my stand, I'm putting a shelf for storage, with dry boxes. This way if friends hunt out of it, they will already have what extras they need at the stand.. The trap door works for people, but after thought, how does one get bulky item in the stand? Just food for thought. I'm Guessing the pipe runs down to a hole with gravel in it, to filter out the water and keep the sent down... Looking forward to videos from the stand in upcoming hunts.. Mike Cat It’s the asphalt type roofing that Lowe’s has. Best way to describe it is, it’s like a tin roof sheet but made of the materials like shingles.

Before you have a good deer stand to use it's took a lot of hard time and time. I have my 5 deer stand build and it's took me 3 years plus others.

Awesome job! What is the overall footprint at the base of the legs? I'm wanting to do something similar but will be built amongst trees so the footprint comes into play.

Yes, I used half inch rebar 24” long and drilled through the 4x4 at an angle. Then hammered it through the legs into the ground.

Nice job. Wanting to do the same size this coming year. Getting too old to sit out in the elements on my ladder stand lol. One question though. What size 4x4's did you use? I want to stay at the same height as my ladder stand so i was planning on using 16 foot long 4x4's.

Best I can remember I believe they were 16ft. I bought them bigger Due to the elevator brackets kicking the legs out so much.

Dave Driggs I bought 2ft sections of rebar. Then drilled a diagonal hole through the 4x4 posts, and hammered it through the post into the ground. Seems to hold really well. We had a tornado come through that area close to the stand. It downed trees and took the asphalt roof off the blind......but she’s still standing!!

How far apart are the 4x4 legs at the bottom. I build a pad and got it level now I just want to be sure it’s big enough

I honestly don’t know. The elevator brackets pushed them out further than I had expected. The blind platform is 6ft x 8ft, and the brackets probably pushed them out another 2-3ft.

Did you make the roof flat with wood and then slant tin on top of that?

Yes the roof is flat, I cut the 2 sides of the blind at an angle so the roof would have a pitch to it when I placed it in the top.
