Building a Bushcraft Hut on Epic Alpine Terrain (Part 1)

I am building a permanent bushcraft hut on a spectacular rocky hill, between two small rivers. All the trees I use are dead or broken by the heavy snowmasses fallen in November 2019. I am using hemp rope to stabilize the floor and the first two walls and a few steel nails for the construction around the door, without damaging the alive trees, of course. Only handtools. No synthetic material.
Location: South-Tyrol, eastern Alps
Period: July 2020

A rough carpenter is a rough carpenter. Its been 4 1/2 decades but I envy you the task you have set. The connection between the hand, the tool and the object is a direct connection, not like the framing carpenters of today that use nail guns in place of a rigging axe. Times change; but the eye, muscle memory, measuring twice, driving to point of aim, feel, crowning, and knowledge of the wood, one arm larger than the other, the grateful acknowledge at the end of the day, the completed structure(which incidentally is anti-climatic) are the duty and pleasure of the rough carpenter...

I'm going camping in Scotland. I picked a forest near a 5G area. Have a 120W foldable solar panel. Gonna try and run a PS5 in the hut. Definitely aiming to work from my laptop at least.

Thank you for posting this. As a retired architect/builder and avid outdoorsman I tried to explain this used of trees to build on when on a sloping hillside to my wife. When watching alone I tremble when they all build the same debris huts. Good job

If u r referring to the alone series, then the reason is that those guys r in a survival situation. So their priorities r just to build something simple and fast, thus to expend little calories and time.

Yes I had to ask for permission. The condition is not to cut alive trees, but I would not do that anyway. Bushcraft should be as nature-friendly as possible

Should not be a problem. The roof could be damaged, but that's fixable.
