That’s awesome! What type of cables are those black ones exactly? Thanks!
@ScottBell
@ScottBell 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. They are ~1/4 inch braided steel cables coated in some kind of plastic resin. I went with the coated to avoid any fraying of the cable that might poke me but any heavy duty cable would probably work.

hey sweet job man! do you think the aircraft cables need to be coated?
@ScottBell
@ScottBell 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I don't think you need to have coated cable I just thought it would protect the metal a bit more from fraying. It might add a bit of rigidity to the cable as well but not much.

@ScottBell
@ScottBell 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Jan, thanks for watching. I did some very early tests without a gimbal and there was too much vibration for my likely but it's definitely worth a try.
@marcduffy9916
@marcduffy9916 3 жыл бұрын
This is brilliant can't wait to make one and use on our rides.. Did you try a smoother rope to lower vibrations?
@ScottBell
@ScottBell 3 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for watching. I haven't tried smoother rope - it's really expensive to get smooth rope with no stretch. That said, between a gimbal and the vibration isolation plate, the vibration is super minimal. Biggest lesson I've learned after 10-15 cables set with this system is to have a good braking system. I damaged my Ronin S a few months ago due to too steep of an angle, causing a lot speed and not a slow enough stop. I have a bunch of other videos about the cable rig if you haven't checked them out yet. Good luck!

@pomanprod

One thing you need to factor in is the cost of the rope. You cannot use good old nylon rope or polyester rope for cable cam because they sag. For example between two poles 330 feet apart and each end at 12 feet, at the middle the rope sag down to 6 feet. You have to use Amsteel or Dyneema rope which is 3x of comparable size steel cable and they sag even less than steel. But they cost $2.00 per foot. So to record a 100m or 330 feet that's $680.00. But they drop only 18" with a four pound wiral lite set up.
@ScottBell
@ScottBell Жыл бұрын
Dyneema is great, but if you are looking to do something on a budget the rope I used was $25 for 600ft and worked great for years with no sag. I'm now on a motored system and use Dyneema, but folks looking to get started with something can make it happen much cheaper.

Hey Mate, i like your Videos - your explanation is really awesome but somehow i didn´t got what you´re meaning with the "coated aircraft cables". Can u send me link? Hope to hear u soon!
@ScottBell
@ScottBell 4 жыл бұрын
Cheers, thanks Gerrit. It's braided steel cable that is coated with a plastic material. Something like this amzn.to/36lPTyN I don't think it's absolutely required that it's coated but through it'd protect the wire from fraying over time.
