Mik, this is why I love your channel, for the practical and useful information you provide to Event Photographers! I shoot with a Nikon D750. I am still a hobbyist and primarily shoot events for charity, family, and close friends. My primary lens is the Nikkor 24-120mm f/4. I also have a 50mm f/1.4 and 85mm f/1.8. The 24-70 and 70-200 f/2.8 are both on my purchase list. I am finding that I really need the 70-200 focal length but learning to make do for now. I am glad you are doing videos for the 3 major camera brands. I am looking forward to the Nikon video. Thanks for all that you do for us Event Photographers! We really appreciate it! ❤️👏👍

Thanks, Linda! I would go with a 70-200 first. Your 24-120 should get the job done - and if you can always use your 50mm if you need to let in more light. I just scheduled my Nikon video for Friday! kzbin.info/www/bejne/hKvRfmmJbsyFl6c

Informative video. I'm in the process right now of doing this very thing as I switch from Nikon to Canon RF. First purchase was the R3 and 70-200mm 2.8. I also shoot sports and the R3 is amazing for that and the low-light autofocus is other-worldly. Second purchase was the 24-70mm 2.8 followed by a 600EX II-RT flash. This was the bare minimum kit to make sure I liked the RF system and it fit my needs. I then got the 300mm 2.8 IS II and the 15-35mm 2.8 followed by an R6 with the battery grip. $20,000 later, I have a kit that I can shoot basically 100 percent of my assignments and the Nikon gear is ready to be sold. It's been a stressful but exciting few months as I've made this transition.

What made you want to make the switch?

I went all in last year with the R6, the 2.8 trinity, the R (and the 50 1.8 just for fun). I added the Godox V1C, the Godox X2T and I am soon gonna add the Godox AD200 pro. Of course there are so many little other things (SD cards, backpack, batteries, etc.) but I really have a lot of fun with my kit right now and it does seem to do a great job.

@@MikMilman I bought the 24-70 and the 70-200 at the same time and later added the 15-35 and the 50 1.8. I did however sell a lot of other gear beforehand (all my automatic watches and my old Canon M50 and various old lenses).

I'm running an R6 and a R for 2nd camera. The smaller file sizes is definitely an advantage, quicker transfer, cheaper memory card and you dont need a super beefy computer like you would with an R5. If I was starting out, I'd go with an R6, 24-70 2.8, and the cheaper RF 16mm 2.8 prime. I like the 16mm because its a tiny lens that I just leave in my bag and swap over to catch the few establishing shots I need. The L 15-35 is just too heavy and half the focal range overlaps the 24-70. Then I would rent a 70-200mm if I needed to. And go with cheaper godox flashes. When I shoot more casual things like birthday parties, I've been using my RF 50mm 1.8 and RF 35mm 1.8. The weight savings is huge for me now, and you come off as less intrusive with a smaller kit.

I got the RF 16mm for the same reason. If I know I'll only need a wide angle for a few shots, it works great without adding weight or taking space. But I would only recommend it to those on a budget or who already have a more versatile wide angle lens.

Super interesting to see everything priced out! I always knew building my kit out was going to be expensive, but never really had a super accurate number!

The RF 50 1.2 is one that sets you apart when conditions are right in an appropriate venue. The 85 is even better but less versatile. Mik always coming through with the quality and informative content!

Would 2 bodies and a couple primes not be cheaper?

I'm still getting through all your videos, and I didn't hear you saying, but do you use only one body and change lenses during the event?
@MikMilman2 жыл бұрын
Very often I use just one body and switch lenses. Occasionally, it's easier to shoot with two bodies for a variety of reasons.

I counted the retail cost on my kit after the fact...was rather shocking. Glad I built it somewhat slowly LOL
