Wanna know how to build a chicken run? I break down my steps here!
Heres the story of how I had no clue how to build a chicken run until I was forced to figure it out.
Chicken keeping has been such a rewarding experience, not in just the raising of the hens themselves but also in the building of their chicken coop, the run, and all the DIYs such as their feeder and waterer🐣💕
My lovely ladies are pets, so I am raising my chickens for eggs only! Hence their super safe home. If you have any chicken recs, please let me know!🐓

Julia I want to thank you for solving a 6 year problem! I have chickens and ducks who roam freely in my backyard, and once the pigeons realized that there was chicken food and seeds here I have been inundated with dozens of pigeons daily. I tried everything I could think of to hide the food, disguise the food, cover the food, I even humanely trapped pigeons and relocated them to a park. I relocated over 200 pigeons. Being pigeons, they have a natural homing radar and most of them came back, plus more. I've lost my mind fighting with the pigeons! I saw this video, showed my husband, and he made the feeder that weekend. It works! Finally my chickens and ducks have continuous food during the day without competing with the pigeons. We made 2, one for chicken feed and one for seeds. We can actually go away for a weekend now without bringing my chickens and ducks into the garage so they have food. It's changed the game for us. Thank you!

Omg yay!! I’m so glad this helped🥹💗💗 I would suggest making sure the bin is fully covered (if it’s not already) from rain! I accidentally left mine out and the food got soaked and molded quickly😭

@JuliaBrooke oh no! Sorry that happened to you! I'm in Nevada, so rain is definitely not a problem here, but we automatically put a cover on it because pigeons hunt from overhead. Thank you again. Because of your wonderful video, my chickens are happier and I'm saved from more years of aggravation!

Great work! That is a significant project... I loved seeing the chickens play with your dog. May want to think about putting predator wire on the roof as well. The chickens have aerial predators such as hawks, eagles, and what not.

They make what’s called a chicken nipple also for water…… think of like a water bottle for a hamster or a mouse it’s very similar except it’s for chickens Maintenance you don’t have to clean them like the bowls sometimes you have to clean those bowls A+ on the feeder though that thing is awesome great idea

Julia….. I had chickens for eight or 10 years before I sold my house I did the same thing as you the chicken run on the side of my chicken coop with an opening chicken door to go out into it large fence for the chicken run And I built another large fence chicken run on the other side of the chicken coop with a separate door That was my garden 👍😎 Every fall just before Halloween I would switch the garden and the chicken run and cover the old chicken run with plastic to kill all the weeds by springtime. It was just dirt …fertilized dirt. Garden on one side with the fence chicken run on the other side with the fence , same fence same hardware cloth on The ground so predators could not get in just like you I bought a Rototiller in the early spring around February or March. I would turn up the fertilized soil for the garden and then plant later in the season If you ever have a plan for a garden, your chicken coop is set up perfectly to put the garden right next to your chicken coop. Just put a matching fence. You’ll need a fence on your garden anyway.👍😎

Be careful putting chicken wire on the top if it snows it will catch all the snow and collapse….. that happened to me😎👍 Oh and….BTW your mom‘s cute😊

Some decent ideas here! Do you have any wildlife that might create problems? I dont have chickens yet because there are mountain lions I see often on cameras. I feel they would cause too much stress to the chickens.

Oh gosh! No I don’t have much besides hawks, foxes and coyotes however my area is flooded with field mice so all the predators are pretty well fed and don’t come near the coop!
