Brings back memories. "The book" when I were lad was Tuning the A-Series Engine by David Vizard. The exhaust he went for was a maniflow LCB (like yours) and an RC40 (from Minispares in London). So dutifully went off and bought both, but like yours, didn't really fit. Took a load of work to get it right, but apparently that was just what you had to do back then, and apparently still do! Your manifold is missing a clamp that goes somewhere on the gearbox bolts to hold it rigid to the engine and help with the gasket to the head from blowing.

Memories.. I have the 3C mags still from that era !
@ronald19685 ай бұрын
There should be a clamp on the bottom of the downpipes that mounts to the diff output plate bolts.... this holds it firm and stops the gasket on the head blowing due to it all moving ....
@Urchfab5 ай бұрын
Ah, might be something that should've come with the manifold then.

So neat, just a suggestion, add some plates to the front of the muffler and silencer to act like ramps, so the front of them cant get caught on anything, like car trailers, or if you go off track they dont dig into the ground.

Just be careful that you don't fail the 40mm ride height check with that box in the centre tunnel at the ride height we run Migs/Libres. There's a teason the box is at the back and the pipe is tucked toght up into tunnel
@Urchfab5 ай бұрын
I will check mate but I'm pretty sure there's way more than 40mm clearance. Cheers

Fabco link looks useful, ability order some bends with custom tail lengths can be useful as can expanding ends ... Be nice hear the mini exhaust, keep up the good work ...

Here in the states, muffler manufacturers can get you ticked. Only one maker posts any flow data that is easily found. Sound level is another issue but for high speed performance, the ability to make a muffler invisible to the engine is important. I have searched many videos online hoping to get a better understanding of the sound produced but even that can be misleading. David Vizard talks about mufflers in one of his publications and has a diagram of one that is invisible to the engine as far as restriction, allowing the headers to to their intended job and not cause reversion in the intake manifold. I am seriously thinking about making 2 as per diagram to see what happens and if it works, then make them from stainless steel. Just because everyone uses one brand over the other may be more of a sound and seat of the pants feel vs actual testing with data to prove it out.

And when the exhaust slides of (not if..) you may want to catch it with something like a loop, perhaps some earth straps.

Question: Did you think of using a stainless steel braded flex pipe on the collector pipe from the header to exauhst pipe? Just curious, Urchman. "CHEERS!"

I'm no expert but with the exhaust bolted so securely, will engine vibration not cause the exhaust to break ? I'm just curious, not trying to be hateful !
@sjv65985 ай бұрын
It’s not rigid mounted. They are on exhaust rubber bobbins that allows movement.
@demonhighwayman94035 ай бұрын
@@sjv6598 I did see that but thought they looked really solid.
@jzab5 ай бұрын
I’d be more worried by the expansion of the pipe due to temperature. A 3 metre stainless pipe gets about 19 mm longer with a 400 degrees C rise. It’s about 24 mm longer if the rise is 500 degrees C. That might shear those mounts off.

If your willing to pay the price there's companies that will do it. It's time consuming work so generally costs a fortune, most the time an off the shelf part is gonna be much cheaper.
