Great video! I’m making something similar and was looking for a good way to cut the PVC. I also appreciate you not editing out your mistake with the riving knife and instead using it as a teaching moment 👌🏻😌 we newbies appreciate you

How about a video about choosing a fastener for your project, i.e. type - like brad vs staple vs finisher? Screw vs nail? And the right length for your project. Planning my own french cleat wall system in my garage and building the shelves for my tools is where I'm lacking my knowledge.

Hello SLC, My drill charging station is not so cute as yours one. But I love complex solutions and I miss the charging process in your one. That is why I added an automatic time switch to the drill station so i can choose how long will last the charging. It is adjustable from seconds to 20 hrs. I set it on 1 hour with possibility to multiply the time up to 5 hrs jus by push a small button. It is enoug for charging all the batteries I got. When I leave the workshop, I insert the batteries to the chargers and then I push a charging button. After the set up time the charging station grid plugs are switched of automatically and the bateries are not overcharged. It is also more safe than letting the bateries under the voltage all the time I am out of the workshop.

Nice job! I'm going to be making one of these after I finish my French cleat wall. I like the cherry stain. I'm thinking about making a blue square to hold miscellaneous drill attachments and have American flag motif (red and white being the cleats and wall)
@SpecificLove73 жыл бұрын
It is very funny that you mention that. I plan to have a video in about 2 weeks showing a similar flag and cleat idea, just in case you want to watch it for an example.

Great tutorial with lots of detail. I just have one question. On the PVC drill holders, is there a reason why you didn't just drill all the way from end to end? I don't have a drill press and wondered if I just cut the channel the whole length if it would work. In my mind, the only reason you'd drill a hole and channel as you did would be to have a positive stop when putting the drills in. Am I missing something other than that? Thanks again.
@SpecificLove75 жыл бұрын
The stop is part of the reason, but the other is the fact that the pipe will partly fold in on itself when cut fully making it hard to size for the drills. Plus there is a chance of flexing, which could let the drills fall out.
@kamden19804 жыл бұрын
If he is correct and the PVC will roll up on itself, it should be a simple matter to add a few additional screws at the 11 o'clock and 1 o'clock position at either end to prevent this.
@austinhastings87934 жыл бұрын
Before you get too wrapped around the axle, be aware you can drill those starter holes with a spade bit and a hand-held drill. Since the pipe is circular, just drill the hole first. Measure how far in you want to go, drill a hole, and then base everything else off the location of the hole. (I've done this exact thing freehand many times, using a buzz cutter rather than a jig saw, and it comes out fine.)
@LoneWolf-yp2mo4 жыл бұрын
You can just cut the slot to the desired length with a "square" end as well. The rounded feature is just a little nicer. Stay safe !!

Is there any particular reason to prefer side brackets that have been hollowed out? Why not simply keep your side brackets completely intact? I thought that they were composed of three separate pieces so you would save on plywood, but here you just hollowed out a complete set of ply so you would throw out the centre anyways. Is it just an aesthetic thing?

Great vid...to help with the kid proofing problem...once you get it where you like it, you can "earthquake proof" it with a couple of screws shot through the back and into your lower wall cleat...unless your kid is Bruce Banner, then no amount of kid proofing will do. :-D

Your "almost accident" had more to do with poor table saw technique than anything else. Although the riving knife would have helped you, that's not what a riving knife is for.
