John, the fact is that a workshop continually evolves, what works now may not in the future, it doesn't matter what others think, it's all about what works for you now.

Great video: creative use of scraps for high need purpose , no BS talk, entertaining to watch because of good ideas, steady flow , only show what is needed to demonstrate concept and methods. You videos are among the very few that I don’t find myself scrolling through to get to the useful information in need.

Great video. Only suggestion may be for the corded trim router. A slot cutout in the base allowing it to be stored with the bit in it and at depth. Not for long term storage obviously, but would allow you to set the tool aside securely with out having to readjust the bit. I know you have gone over to the cordless so the corded just sits most of the time. However, having two trim routers, you may find that you can use them both to add to productivity. For instance one with a flush cut and one with a round over. By having both ready and adjusted you don’t need to change bits keeping bit changes and adjustments to a minimum.

I agree. I've put up a few cleats on a wall and started making some basic holders from some plywood, and I'm gonna cut a hole in the center for my trim router so I can keep it at the depth of had it set at like your saying. I'll prolly drill it out like ¾ so it'll fit all without a problem no matter what I got in it. But that's a great idea!

I got lots of cordless tools and these ideas are going to come in handy once I get motivated to get some plans going for them all and start building. Love the cleats ideas. My storage unit or units will have to be made to be portable for the truck to haul it all. I do house calls for our elderly to do repairs of all sorts for them. Their to-do list turns into to-do pages once i'm done with the job they called for. They ask if I can do another task for them, "Yes I can" is the only answer I want to give them. Hence reason for many power tools to be in my truck , ready to use at a spur of the moment or drop of a dime as they say.

“Better looking”? I think they look great. Also, there is beauty in their “simplicity”. Designs that are really clean and simple looking, can sometimes be the ones that took the most cleverness to create. It’s easy to over complicate things (I know, I’m an expert at that). These look clean, clever and practical. I like em!

I moved house recently and have a reasonably large workshop. When we moved, all the tools (both corded and battery powered) were put into plastic tubs for transport. Well, now it is time to create storage for these items. I intended to use the French Cleat system and I'm not the inventive type, so your video has certainly helped. You’ve demonstrated ways others can solve problems for their own unique tools and you have given me a number of solutions to the problems I have. I also have to build a charging station for my tools batteries which I plan to keep next to the tool storage. Thank you. You have some great ideas.

Fun stuff like all of your videos. Really appreciate seeing how anything and everything is put together. Juggling the ideas and methods one could use on any part of a project is the beauty of woodworking. Having more current thoughts going around in my head is great. I can’t help myself really. Belt sander. Maybe you made one, but the sorta holder where you lay it on its side. Doubles table to hold it for using it like a stationary belt sander. Some are fancy, some are just a shaped piece of wood that locks inside the contoured handle and a board for a base with a lip to get the bottom edge of the belt in relation to the work platen. Checked. You did but vertical. Horizontal time. It’s a worth a video in my humble opinion.

Small change to the drill storage rack: add a spacer inside the frame behind the back ends of the pipes so that the openings will be at a slight upward-facing angle. A bit more gravity assistance to hold them and a more ergonomic orientation for pulling them out.
@leahrowe8472 жыл бұрын
Also add a piece of wood with slide out rail to hold all your favorite bits close at hand, & a section for the cordless batteries to be mounted onto would be an awesome addition in that section. They make these plastic dupes of the chargers, which can be screwed into wall/boards for storage that're pretty bitch'n. Why not store everything all together!

For the French cleats, don't secure them with a nail or screw. Use a hole saw to make a circle of plywood with a diameter more than double the depth of your cleat. Secure it to the back of your tool holder with a counter sunk screw (through a hole in the holder that is oversized to give the screw nothing bite). The screw should bite the circle near the edge rather than the center. This way turning the screw causes the circle to wobble like a cam. The location of the counter sunk hole should have been chosen such that the cam motion can wedge against the bottom of the cleat, but also give enough clearance to remove the tool holder when the cam is turned the opposite direction. Great project ideas here. Thanks!

Well thought out and executed ideas. Thanks. You mentioned that leaving batteries on cordless tools isn't good practice. This is a tricky area but I've concluded that as long as the tool isn't easily turned on when picking it up then leaving the battery on is a good idea. Two reasons for this. It minimises the wear on the battery contacts and encourages a regime where the batteries are mostly in a part charged condition. This is best for battery life so I keep one extra battery loose and fully charged so I'm never caught out but most of the batteries are part charged most of the time. And, of course the tools are ready for action!
