The only way to learn young man is to hands on. Use your own ideas, I am 56 and worked on cars my whole life. Every mistake I made, I learned from. That car will not be to heavy, leave those tubes alone you'll be thankful you did.

Also, when you are welding together tubing or making a mitered bend, instead of cutting one at 0 degrees and the other at 30 degrees (for example), cut them both at 15 degrees so they fit together better. Overall, you are doing a good job. Having a heavier frame will lower the center of mass which is good.

Was just about to say the same thing. Also, I'd be adding gussets or side plates - that weld looks strong, but I'd be double pass TIGing to actually make it strong. Penetration is important in so many circumstances. Also, I'd be welding on a flat surface with everything clamped in place correctly.

@@dsrtrcr01 that one he bought is light duty at best. Plus you have to get the right blade for the right material. He should be using an 8 or 10 tpi blade for that steel. A bigger unit would purr through those box channels like butter.
@muskokamike127
@muskokamike127 4 жыл бұрын
Many don't allow for mitre cuts though. We have one up here called a terminator or something that uses a metal cutting steel blade instead of an abrasive blade and it purrs through steel. It looks just like one used for wood, but spins slower and has more power so you can do any angle you want. Correction: it's called the evolution.

Often engines are not centred in the car. For clearance of steering gear around headers. Also having the engine offset can help balance the car better when racing. The offset engine offsets the weight of the driver.

Use the frame as is brother, it needs the rigid heavy duty frame because those cars stock, when you start adding more power things start to sagg and bend up since it's a light car anyway. The older Mustangs most people end up tying the frame with sub from supports etc. Also you will have better support to weld in a roll bar if you so chose to, I love what your day now to it💯💪🏁😀

Next time when making front suspension the way you do now, make a simple jig out of it. Then you do not have to make welds to suspension arms/ which changes the material qualities/ those suspension arms might even start a fatigue crack from the spot you welded them.

and adjust the tension, the blade's stretching as it's being used......some do it automatically but that's the cheapo harbor fright one so I doubt it is auto tension.....

That's the first thing I said. There's way too much of a span between them, causing the blade to walk.

Could always build you front suspension outta tubing. Would save you a little weight on the front and you could make everything where you could drop it out the bottom if ever needed. Also would give you room to play with the steering rack.

Your blade guides are adjustable on your band saw. Loosen the hand screw on it and slide the guide as close to the material you are cutting as you can. That will keep the blade going straight. The bearings are adjustable too, make sure they are just touching the blade without causing any drag. You'll see straighter cuts.

If your band saw isn't cutting straight you need to slow the feed rate up or slow how fast the band is going through the metal. With that boxed tube it needs to be extremely slow. Probably take 10 minutes to cut through that straight.

You keep doing the same mistake with the frame beam ends/ seams. Other tube is straight cut and the other tube is cut to an angle. If you measure the height of the edge, you will notice the mistake.

Looking good, hopefully you will be reinforcing the welds on the frame with at least 1/4" steel plate . Also a sub frame connector with a drive shaft loop and exhaust passages would stiffen the frame for anything you throw at it. Cannot wait to see how it all turns out.

Pointers: if you want really accurate angled cuts and square cuts, spray your steel with black spray paint then mark your lines with a scriber/awl your accuracy will improve 100%. Your bandsaw blade wandering: adjust the tension. As the blade gets used it will stretch. There should be a way to adjust the tension inside the bandsaw. If you want your square frame rail to match up even more accurately with the angled pieces, split the angle between the two. Right now, your square ended rail is shorter than the angled cut so they won't match up exactly. If you split the angle between the two, they will be perfectly the same. For eg: if the angle you want is 30 deg, you can cut one at 30 or both at 15. Both at 15 is mucho betterino. As someone else said: to reinforce your welds, you could put fish plates over them and weld those on.
