I recently picked up a used early 2000s American made Telecaster to build a clone of my late Uncle Genes original Broadcaster. Gene played guitar in several jazz abd lounge bands throughout the midwest from late 1940s to mid 1960s. Along the way he picked a number of now vintage and valuable guitars his Broadcaster being one. The original sales slip from a Kansas City Kansas pawnshop dated February 1955 shows he paid $75.00 for "used Fender electric guitar that needs strings".

The control plate and bridge plate, are already metalic and pritty well conductors and aslo they are in direct contact with the shielding of the cavities, personally I wouldn't put copper tape on them. Anyway nice job.
@gryzew5 жыл бұрын
Not only is this totally unnecessary -- those elements are better shields already due to their thickness -- you risk introducing galvanic corrosion over time.

Nice video! A point about shielding - To create a proper shielding system you need to run a wire from each of the pickup cavities and also one for the underside of the bridge,You can just strip a section of wire and trap it under the bridge for that part but the other 2 wires need to be terminated on a small ring terminal which is screwed into the copper shielding, At the other end, the control cavity terminate all of the wires on ring terminals plus one from the control plate itself, As per previous the ring terminals are all fixed to one screw that is fixed through the copper.This setup is called a star wired earth system. I was taught that if you didn't fit the earthing you are in danger of creating an antenna system from the individual bits of copper shielding.Hope you are not offended by my writing this as that was not my intention. Cheers

@MuscleDad4206 жыл бұрын
That's not necessary if you line all the cavities properly with bits of the shielding tape coming up over the edge. The grounding on the back of the potentiometer bodies terminating at the output jack will connect with the metal control cover, which connects to the bridge, and finally to the neck pickup cavity via the pickguard. The tape will complete the faraday cage. Not sure why the builder lined the underside of the control cavity cover and the bridge, as they're both metal, which is conductive, and also why they did not line the whole back of the pickguard, or at the very least the middle-treble end so that the neck pickup could be shielded completely via the shielding tape at the top edge of the control cavity. Lining the output jack hole as they did also presents the possibility that the positive arm of the jack could ground itself, especially as they used a vintage style Telecaster jack cup.
@ilovejapanesemusic3858 Жыл бұрын
There is no Faraday cage, It's simply shielding the pickups from outside EMF

I found out by accident that turmeric powder and alcohol make the most vibrant golden/blonde dye I've ever used. The more layers the darker of course. I've also used cinnamon powder for darker mahogany like colors. You open your guitar case and it smells like a cinnamon roll. Cinnamon also makes a great grain filler for mahogany when you rub it in and then hit it with shellac in alcohol. Nice build btw, and nice playing, if it was you.

@mark0068687 жыл бұрын
But you are not using the copper as a "conductor"....you are using it for shielding and both the bridge and control plate will shield better than any foil...
@BluesPre6 жыл бұрын
No need to put foil to the metal parts, they're conductive as is. In fact, you're making the connection worse by adding a layer of adhesive, which isn't anywhere near as conductive as the brass hardware (nickel or chrome plated). Anyway you just need to conduct radio noise to ground, Not shoot lasersfrom the guitar, so the conductivity isn't an issue anyhow.

@@oinkooink if any part of this was a ripoff it should've been adding the Fender logo to a non-Fender guitar. What if he decides to sell it and the buyer thinks they're buying a true Fender? Other than that all he did was buy a guitar kit and build it and very well I might add. So I guess in the end whoever owns and is playing with this guitar the question is are they happy owning it and playing on it? By then it won't matter what name is labeled on the headstock. The only thing that would bother me would be any false pretenses.

@@oinkooink You know and I know that companies copy other companies models of guitars. Including the build-it-yourself kits like we see here. That in itself is okay I guess especially where the budget minded are more concerned. My disagreement with this here was the Fender sticker. Not so bad if he decides to keep the guitar because it would be something he keeps to himself. But should he decide to sell it as a "Fender" and not reveal its true nature then that's where I personally would have a problem with it.

Top notch video and great looking finish on this guitar. My wife has just got me a Telecaster guitar kit for Christmas and when looking for ideas on what to do I came across your video. Informative enough without the extra intrusions like some videos. Well done pal. Do you have any videos on playing this guitar to see how it sounds?

Thanks, Steve. I will post a video showing its tone soon. Best regards and good luck with your building.

Great job! I've a laser to help with neck/body alignment (just a cheap "leveling" device, but super easy to adapt), and it was nice assist. Didn't see if the jack cup was an exact reproduction, or a more modern, radius-ed cup design (I'm guessing orig.). Thanks!

Have you tried Warmoth or Guitar Fetish?

This is not a 'build' This is an assembly . Try making all the bits -then call it a build .

bee, e, ay, you, tea, full work, Sir! this video has definitely inspired many of us to copy your craftsmanship. everything is right with this...the speed of the build in videography years, the soundtrack, the perfect representation of the relic, the look, and (for those of us who know) the feel & smell it must have (and the feel & smell it Will Have in 50+ years), the beauty of the final product, the precision of neck-setting......all is right. this video is perfect 👌 amazing job! i want to build 3 of them starting tomorrow. thank you for creating & posting this. wish me luck

What "relic"? I watched the entire video and never saw him relic this build at all. Mind telling me the timestamp of where you saw him do a "perfect representation of the relic"?
@corporalclegg9144 жыл бұрын
Space Alien - Sure! but, let’s first define the term “Relic” as it was used in my comment Relic [rel-ik] .Noun. 1. a surviving memorial of something past. 2. an object having interest by reason of its age or its association with the past: 3. a surviving trace of something
@corporalclegg9144 жыл бұрын
Space Alien - you’re assuming that Relic is a Verb...not a Noun, as the English Language Dictionary defines it. you’re correct in that he never Purposely Distressed the Guitar’s Finish or Structure & I can agree that, though it was never a thought of mine.
