Building a DIY Bird Bath

Materials Used to Make Fountain:
1. a Ceramic Pot
2. a Stainless-steel ½ inch threaded pipe, length two inches
3. Two half-inch rubber washers and brass compression nuts ("Hex Lock Nut" or "Brass Flange Hex Lock Nut")
4. a smidgen of GE 100% silicone caulk
5. 1 female ½ inch brass garden spigot (1/4 turn)
6. Plummer’s tape
7. a two foot 6 inch PVC drainage pipe
8. 2 feet of ½ inch pvc pipe and 2 half inch pvc couplings
9. a black rubber cork, size #4
10. Yellow Topper: Rapid Set Cement All and Yellow Mineral Oxide in powder form (about 1 pound). There are a wide range of molds to select the topper you want. I am including a link to what appears to be a similar mold to the sun used in this video- www.amazon.com...
11. Adjustable water-flow pump and ½ tubing outside diameter, with 3/8 inch inside diameter. 12. 3-M electrical tape (see link #3 above if you are interested in exterior cord insulator)

Will drilling through the ceramic pottery not break it?

Here's another fountain made where thin ceramic pottery is drilled to create a fountain "spout for the fountain." I have never had a problem with the ceramic pot breaking: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6qrdHiDiN5-Y9k Both fountains are doing fine.

How much of the yellow powder did you use and where do you get it from? I thought I heard you say 2 cups. When I searched online it appears to be sold by weight.

Two cups were used. That is one pound.

I need to mention that I was using a non-aggregate cement, meaning it was mostly pure powder. It was fast-drying and extremely strong: 1 day cured, 6000 psi. If using the concrete in video link, Quikrete 5000, it would be possible to achieve the same yellow intensity with one cup. The reason being is that the aggregate, the small rocks and stones would not absorb the yellow mineral colorant. Both the cement and the color would be much more economical if mass producing cement with color, but both work extremely well.

The entire price for the yellow topper and blue pot, including the pump and other materials, was around $120. This fountain has the potential to last a lifetime in that all the materials used are of a sound quality.
