DIY birdbath fountain- babbling spring -Boris!

built my own babbling birdbath, the soothing noise and fresh water attract chickadees sparrows and of course all kind of other birds.
simple construction using a "barrel" (plastic pot), a 2.5 gallon pail, some egg crate light diffuser and a pump with some tube.
I drilled holes in the pail and flipped it upside down. this will help ensure the water is moving and circulating well.
it started working in less than a day. all kinds of birds come to my yard now.

Next time, instead of drilling such a large hole, simply drill a notch in the lip of the barrel so the water level can be a bit higher.

It's likely landscaping fabric.

Is there a hole inthe top with tub comeing from the pump? Of the bucket i mean?

Yes there is I made it about the same size as the hose so it's a nice tight fit

It's called a hole saw. Not sure which size I used I just found one that was close to the size of the cord end.

Not much of a birdbath since the water level is so low and doesn't allow for a bath. Other than that, its a great design.

The hummingbirds actually prefer to take bath with this style of water bubblers fountain

They just splash in the little water spout. I do want to try one with a shallow pool as well though. Maybe I'll use that for the next one

@@borisbuilds The one I built a few years ago, I used a clear plastic flower pot saucer (from under the pot) and filled with a few stones for birds to stand on. Since the saucer is 1" deep, it holds enough water for the birds to bathe. They love it and splash water everywhere, lol. Its basically the big flower pot, with upside-down bucket inside to cover the pump, and the saucer on top of the bucket. The saucer is almost as wide as the big pot, but there is a 1-inch gap all around for the water to spill over the saucer back into the big pot.
