Building a Dome at Earth People's Park, Woodstock 1971

I posted the following info on this site years ago, but apparently it has disappeared. Yes, I (Frosty) got my name from Cryonics; shortened from Dr. Frosty Freeze. I still use Frosty. The ferro-concrete dome was some project! We started by making a plastic inflatable dome and spraying several inches of rigid foam on top to eventually be covered in ferro-concrete (concrete mixed with short steel wires). Unfortunately by the time we started to cover the rigid foam, it was early November and too cold to apply concrete, even with additives/accelerators. I left Woodstock with the intention to return in the spring to finish. Unfortunately this never happened as I headed to CA and graduate school. One fond memory was our circa 1905 single cylinder, cement mixer that took about 4 people running with a 20+ ft fabric tape wrapped around the flywheel to start it; when it cooperated... I'll never forget the putt.....putt ....putt it made when finally running.

That bulldozer sank in the mud from the rain, on the fill side of the site. I accidentally broke the suspension of a marionette theater's limo trying to pull it out of a ditch with that bulldozer at the foot of the road.

Does anybody remember where Frosty got his nickname? I don't want to spill the beans, but if somebody starts it, I'll help. It's pretty funny.

Frosty Freeze nickname came from Cryonics. Maxwell and Frosty were into freezing people.

Why is it called Earth people's park? that was in Norton, VT, not Woodstock

Misnamed. It was at the site of the Woodstock Community Free School in Riverby in Mt. Tremper, NY outside Woodstock on land donated to the school. Many of the folks helping build were involved with Earth People's Park projects...not all necessarily in VT. Others were from the local and school community.
