If your new to duck hunting and you are looking for information, this is the channel to be on. I have never seen questionable advice given. No theatrics. Just quality hunting and quality advice. Now my .02 I like G&H (not GHG) they are made in OK. They may not be the fanciest but will take abuse and last forever. I prefer a small spread. Everyone throws out 2 doz decoys. I like 6-12. Like Matt says I usually toss out 2 geese 2 woodies 6 mallards ( in my local) and 4 of them in the middle of the spread with a jerk rig. Spinner first thing in the AM or overcast days.

High Prairie Sportsmen Better advice would be to move to a state with more ducks. I love Ohio and the hunting, but it’s in the armpit of flyways.

Also join a hunting forum. I literally just gave away 2 dozen decoys, mallards, gadwalls, widget. Some one gave me and my daughter a dozen mallards when I first got started. I bought a bunch of new deeks and did the same thing. Gave them away to a dad and son who are wanting to get started. Also gave them my decoy bag. Now I need a new one.

Great tips for beginners. I remember my first spread years and years ago was a dozen flambeau mallards mixed with 6 teal and 6 pintails. I killed alot of birds over those dekes over the years. Great vid 👍👍👍

Could I drawn in ducks with only goose decoys? I've got 10 canada geese at the moment.

You can, especially late season, but I'd still recommend getting at least a half dozen duck decoys.

Do you think using a half dozen black duck decoys in South Dakota would work? I know they’re not in the central flyway but could bring variety to spread

They could work. Might be better suited using coots or divers/pintails for contrast and realism.
