Wow, you made that look so easy! Nice tutorial. Question: I see the top support for the shelf unit but is there another one toward the bottom? Or is the unit also attached to the wall/studs with pocket holes too? Finally, is the top shelf also attached to the wall using pocket holes? I've seen them in the past but never used that tool. Thanks!
@TwoFeetFirst
@TwoFeetFirst Жыл бұрын
There are multiple supports on the organizer, so yes there is one at the bottom. The supports are attached to the organizer cabinet and then the supports are secured to the wall with screws into studs (at least two per support to hold the weight!). I didn't use pocket holes on the top shelf, it is nailed to the side rod supports. BUT there are pocket holes on the organizer that attach to the top shelf. Sorry that was a lot of information but hopefully it answers your questions.

@@TwoFeetFirst Thank you for such clarity! Can you tell me the size of your bracing? On your blog, the numbers on the plans were too small to read. :)
@TwoFeetFirst
@TwoFeetFirst Жыл бұрын
It depends on which bracing you are looking for. The organizer is 17" deep by 28' wide. Based on this the top shelf bracing (goes all the way across the closet) is 6"x16-3/4" and the bracing for the organizer is 3"x26-1/2" (to allow for the 3/4" sides). Hopefully, this helps!

Hi Megan, thanks for sharing your process! Curious - what brackets did you use to secure the organizer to the studs? I checked your twofeetfirst blog and didn’t see a picture or details on the kind of bracket(s) there either. Thanks again!

Hi! I used 2-1/2" wood screws to attach the organizer to the studs, no brackets. There is a picture on the blog that shows the screws under the section "HOW TO SECURE THE ORGANIZER TO THE WALL", here's a link to the page: www.twofeetfirst.net/how-to-build-easy-diy-closet-organizer/ Hopefully, this answers your question.

Are you using finishing nails to secure something weight bearing to a wall?
@TwoFeetFirst

No, I use screws that are secured to a stud or I use toggle bolts.

hello! this is a great video. i am very surprised how much closet organizers cost. after i do my murphy bed, i will definitely design something for my master closet. what is the primary reasoning for not taking the unit all the way to the floor? the baseboard could be notched out
@TwoFeetFirst
@TwoFeetFirst 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kendra! There were two reasons for not taking this organizer to the floor. First, was the look I wanted, and the second was that I didn't want the organizer sitting on the carpet. Yes, I could cut out the carpet but then I would have needed to address the carpet. Hope this answers your question.

I share the details on my website. The 1"x2" trim pieces came from Home Depot and they are purchased already primed. So I painted them with white paint.

Sorry, I am just answering your question. In my link to my website, I have the estimated cost to build something similar to this organizer. I would plan around $150 (mine was less than this) for the materials but this will depend on the size of the closet plus the type of material you use.

How are you attaching the organizer to the studs...through the back part of the organizer with screws? Screwing the top part into the shelf?
@TwoFeetFirst
@TwoFeetFirst 4 жыл бұрын
Hi! To attach the organizer to the studs, I have a top bracing and bottom bracing inside the organizer (they are secured to the organizer) which is screwed into the studs. You can see an example of this at about 3:30 minutes into the video, you can see two screws at the top of the organizer right below the top shelf. Then I have another one placed at the bottom of the organizer. Hope this helps but I do have more details on my website, the link is in the description of the video.
