Congrats on buying a house this year! That's so exciting, you'll have a lot to look forward to and I'm sure a ton of projects you'll want to tackle. You just made my day, thank you so much for your comment. If there's one thing I'd like to accomplish it's showing other women that we can do anything we put our minds to. It's a great feeling when we all lift each other up. Good luck to you on this adventure!

This video was so timely as we are converting an entry coat closet to a pantry since the original house pantry sat under our staircase to the second floor. This setup afforded us no usable space for our pantry items, especially with the unusual shape under the staircase. Am glad I stumbled upon this project and have since subscribed to yr channel..tk you

I can’t say this enough…I HATE wire shelving. This is the video I needed to replace those nasty things with truly functional shelves that look great, too. Love my power tools, and you obviously do as well! Also, the planning portion was informative and presented well. Excellent job all around. 👍🏼
@TheNiftyNester3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I agree with you 100%, I can't stand wire shelves. I looked in to them very briefly thinking maybe they'd be cheaper but they really weren't and they don't look as good as wood! I do love power tools, it's awesome to hear from other women that do as well. I think it's good to show younger girls like my daughters that they can do anything themselves. Thank you again for your comment and I hope your shelves turn out amazing!

Best DIY for pantry shelves! So many smart tricks I've never seen. Thanks for not skipping over how to do the pocket holes, people always skip over how to do them and/or what they're called so I couldn't even Google how to do those. And thanks for doing a center support bar, I've seen shelves done much longer w/o them and I don't think they'll support canned goods or 5lbs bags of sugar/flour etc. Building from the bottom up and using the spacers is brilliant, so much more efficient than I've seen in other videos. KUDOS

Sis, I decided to skip the planning process because usually ... meh. But when I was going forward to the timestamp (thanks for adding those, btw), I ended up watching the last minute or so of plans and decided to just start from there. But that last minute was so *not meh that after the build, I went back and watched it all again. I'm glad I did. It really helped. I had plans in my head for some shelves I'm doing this weekend and so was watching KZbin vids to help give inspiration .... this was so detailed and actually inspired me to change plans. Mine really were a lot of overkill, but yours are much simpler and still look sturdy enough for what I'm building.

Thank you so much!!! I really appreciate your comment. I know the planning portion of any project is so boring, but I didn't know how to explain my planning process any other way except for on paper like I did. This was a great video!!! The build detail and design was identical for mine. I was skeptical they could float and be sturdy enough. The 1x2 pine and vertical support did it. You did great explaining this! It feels so doable to me. Especially appreciate the planning stage written out. I had to watch to get all the math in the end. I guess I am visual learner. Haha. Did you use anything to cover your floors to paint or just braved it? My plan is similar only I want to do the bottom portion with a butcher block countertop at counter height and framing to look more like a cohesive base. But otherwise the same. Thanks for this!! And curious if you have other ideas for stability if we don’t want the big center dividing piece? Maybe it’s not doable. Just thought I would ask.
@TheNiftyNester3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your comment! I thought about doing the same thing and adding cabinets to the base with a butcher block counter but decided to go this route to save a little money, but I did research how I'd do it the way you're doing it. If you don't want to use a support bar you can create a frame underneath the shelf. It's basically the same as this by attaching cleats along the wall but you'd run another cleat from each side right underneath the front of the shelf. You can attach it to the cleats on the wall with a pocket hole and screw the shelf down to it. I hope that makes sense. It's basically like making floating shelves but you don't have to box in the underside unless you want to for esthetic reasons. If you search for floating shelves you can find a couple videos that explain it better than I probably am. Also I did throw an old sheet down on the floor I just didn't show it, but I'm too messy to just brave it lol. I'm glad the math portion was helpful, I almost didn't include it but I know there's people out there like you and I that need to visualize everything before taking the project on. I hope your project goes well and turns out just the way you want it to good luck!

Good looking build, but a strong word of caution. Please don’t use gloves, especially loose fitting gloves around anything with a spinning blade. If your hand goes near the blade with gloves on it will draw your hand into the blade which can cause serious or fatal injuries. If you must wear gloves, latex type gloves due to the latex can tear away “faster” than cloth but still not advisable.

Planning to do something similar with my pantry. It's much smaller but I want to do that same "U"-shape. I don't think I'll need that support in the middle, but I think I'll have to invest in one of those pocket hole jigs, seems like a lot of DIY projects require / recommend it. Love how detailed all the steps are!

Thank you! I am so visual with this stuff, I figured someone else out there might be as well. I'm glad you found it helpful 😊
