I loved the fact that this was a family project, with help from Arctic Acres, with a campout thrown in. Many memories built along with a great functional structure. This is a wonderful example of a "Self Reliant" family. Much Respect Sir !!!

Agreed. I think I would have been more intentional about involving my children with even the most mundane tasks while we were camping. I'm pretty sure that would have translated to some pretty good skills now. They are good people. I am grateful for that!

Merrie Hallman, I have those same thoughts. Never met a man like Shawn when I was young. Now I'm 73 and those days are not in my future. So I have much admiration and respect for anyone like that AND has a wonderful family. His videos allow me to experience it from afar.

@@earthangel8730 The BBC did an investigative study about how many people the Earth could support with current tech, current agriculture practices, and without developing new fertile soil and the number was about 10 billion people. That didn't take into account new methods such as micro gardens, urban farming, the reappropriation of land from livestock for plant-based meat substitutions. I think that what he is doing here on this channel is actually paving the way for the future. Self-sustainability and decentralization of food and resources make the Earth more scalable with population. As a young person and someone that believes in self-reliance, I cant help but envy and admire what he is doing and I appreciate that he is making this content available for everyone and also teaching the next generation. Hats off to you Shawn!

My late father-in-law was a horticulturist in Norway. While settling in and learning the language & culture, I worked with and for him. How I got my visa and work permit. What I learned, the experience gained, was priceless. Everyone who can should have a greenhouse. He had four very large ones, since horticulture was his business. They're worth their weight in gold. Great job Shawn, and family 🤗🇧🇻💞

How do you keep the ridges on the panels clear or am I not seeing things properly?

@@l.m.2404 The ridge appearance you see is on the inside of the flat panels. It is largely what gives our polycarbonate its durability, and its semi-transparent look. Cleaning the interior or exterior of a dome’s paneling is a simply wipe-down procedure.

My children also have a daddy that is not a role model for his children, i am glad for guys like Shawn that show youngsters what can be achieved with clean living and hard work. My dad died from alcohol. He was only 58. It hurt, bc he was a good man and daddy, and I loved him a lot. I have 7 siblings, I'm the only one who has had one marriage. I broke the chain of addiction, with God's help, of broken marriages and all that comes with it. You can too. I know you love your dad, and it hurts. Hold on to the good, and break the chain too! God bless, and strengthen you and him.

What a joy.....I have to admit it; after watching you work so hard by yourself, especially on the new homestead, it is lovely to see loved ones working alongside you for a while. It’s also fun to see something that gave you results so fast! A bit easier to complete than those timber masterpieces you make.... Definitely! Growing Domes are engineered to withstand over 180km of wind, heavy hail, 7 feet of direct snow load, and filter out harmful UV rays. They’re as tough as they are beautiful, and make for very versatile spaces.

I am replacing my panels on my greenhouse they are 5 years old. The old .5cm panels were weak in hail and snow. So I bought 1cm extra strength and very happy now. Check with the manufacturer what you need for your area. No regrets having a greenhouse... food all year and very self sustainable. Have fun with the greenhouse... nice vid :) All the best . :)

First build was amazing. You did what I wanted 20 years ago. It felt like a personal passion project. Your family did came out once and a while, although at best, was classed as vacation home for them (from my viewing). This second build has a completely different feel. Its not all about you and more about your family how to provide for them. Bloody amazing transition. You are embracing more modern tools and equipment to achieve this goals, without compromising your skills. I'm jealous in the good way. Peace you amazing bushman and to your family.

It was really different, in the best way, to see family involved. Glad the greenhouse is going up first, it broke my heart to see all the work that went into clearing and earthworks for the forest garden at the other site, only to have to start again. This will get food self sufficiency moving along much faster and allow some focus on other basic-need projects. Wouldn't I love one of those domes!!!

Seeing that dome go up, all I could think of was Buckminster Fuller, who invented the geodesic dome many years ago. He would heartily approve of your greenhouse. Some folks have nicknamed this type structure a "bucky dome" after the inventor. Great video, by the way. I await the next chapter of your adventure.
