I think people under estimate the overall difficulty of such a task that this man accomplished. The strength, the accuracy, time management (seasons, weather, daylight), the mental aspect (being secluded, wild animals, not close to healthcare, absent from family), oh and documenting all of it, editing and everything else that I missed. My hats off to Shawn. “My self Reliance” I couldn’t thin of a better title. Happy New Year!

Dear Sir, I’m a 54 year old man; paralyzed from my waist down, and bedridden since October 2021, from a severe illness I’m still fighting and not quitting. I’d just want you to know, just how much I appreciate your video, of your, “Self Reliance,” and tell you how much you’ve helped me me cope through being alone, and bedridden these 2 1/2 plus years. You’re truly an amazing man, and your videos have provided me a mental outlet, a vacation of sorts. Don’t want to ramble on too much, just say, “Thank you.” I hope you are doing well. Take care.

I changed my diet to LOW CARB…in 10 months, I lost 50 lbs, got off 7 medications and had the best blood test results ever. I eat one 2k-2.5k calorie meal a day between 4-8pm. I fast 20 hours per day and I walk 8 miles every other day. I still follow this way of eating and exercise.

An astonishing solo achievement. Knowledge, skill, persistence and sheer hardworking, maybe a bit of bloody mindedness to get through the weather battered times. Hats off to you. 👍🪒😬 Phil. Suffolk U.K.

You know what I like about this? Is it you can see little imperfections along the way but yet he makes it work. True to life.

This longer version is better than the more condensed one. I said you did a great job of editing out the gristle to leave just meat. I see now that you left a lot of meat on the cutting room floor to get this down to that short version. Really a delightful way to spend my Saturday morning, thank you.

May God bless and continue to watch over you! My simple life makes me feel like a real “slacker” when I watch your channel. I envy your spirit, tenacity and brilliance to engineer and execute so many projects at once (and see them through to the end) is beyond motivating. Thank you for sharing your life- Happy New Year!☺️

He did a great job the house was in his vision, but he didn't do it all alone! Cause when he was working on the side covered porch, i was seeing him lift the window up and hearing some hammering in the back somewhere.

Shawn, what can I say ? You're THE MAN ! You literally built this incredibly spacious and high quality cabin all by yourself (Including working straight through the Winter months). This is a lasting personal accomplishment and provision for your family. When you're old, and sitting in your rocking chair by the fire, then you can look around at all you survey and be satisfied in the work of hour hands. You are a focused and determined craftsman. This is a very inspiring feat, and it is no small thing you have done, Sir ! I salute you. 👌👍😃

now i've watched loads of builds from a wide range of people. im 15 minutes into this and i have two points to make. he knows construction, which makes this alot more streamlined workflow wise and he is freakishly strong yet he seems like such a gentleman. you have to respect such a man. im looking forward to watching the rest and there is no doubt i will be following the channel from now on. blessings
