Steve kindly gifted me a catty last year that i've yet to use, mighty impressive how you've thrown yourself into this and very much looking forward to part two ~Peace~

That's looking awesome Sandy. At first that looked like it would be an impossible thing to hold and shoot but it's been sanded down to a much better thickness. Can't wait for part 2 ..

What an interesting project Sandy. As a kid I regularly made catapults from naturally forked branches. I never became much of a marksman though. Looking forward to part 2. Noel

As kid we used to make 'slingshot's' out of a suitable 'Y' branch - around my area we called them 'gadders'..... The best elastic we could get out greasy mitts on was from the fishing shop....then add an old leather tongue from one of my shoes for the pouch (dont tell my mum!) and off down the canal to shoot pebbles at anything moving!! lol we were a right bunch in them days ha ha!...Good times Sandy... Cheers Chris

Nice one Sandy. I have Black Widow catipult with an arm brace and bought hubby a milbro for Christmas, as he had one when he was a wee devil, child I meant! He does shoot much further with lead ball bearings than stones. Good idea making your own. It is a good feeling when you hit your target-platic milk bottle in my case. I was going to try making a para cord sling next for fun.Cheers Mary

Wow Sandy. You are having too much fun! Always observing, thinking and making things. Impressive. I've thought about making /using slingshots, but haven't taken these ideas as far as you have.... (too busy editing videos...). Can't wait to see the next episode! Peace, Ken

Fascinating Sandy. Never knew about stabilising wood or any of that process. I love learning new things :-) You've also wet my appetite for a catapult. I just need to get the Dennis The Menace image out of my head. Lol Yet another great video. All the best. Matt.

Looking good, also looking forward to the finished product, i used to get a fair few rats around the grainstores as a child with a sling shot, probably wouldn't hit a thing now.

A different project sandy , I would have thought you would have used a hazel fork for the frame of the catapult. However this way you get to use your engineering skills to shape the frame. Nice one.

Looks to be the makings of a fine what we call slingshots. I too also make them from branches. My ammo is steel ball bearings from the truck shop. Will be watching the rest of the build later. Great project. Enjoyed it. ATB2U - Stan

If you bought the cheap Aluminium ball moulds that are on eBay you can mod them by filling in the side vents on both pieces of the mould with some very high temp paste and just leave the filling spout for the lead. It works very well and gives a better ball with only one part needing to be snipped off instead of three!

Really impressed you jumped in at the deep end with this sandy the exact same mold I have but guessing you got that from what I said only suggestion is you may want to scallop the tips like the 1 of mine you used and probably better to go single bands with a taper say 20-15mm or 25-15mm if your just plinking as will bring the draw weight down on band set. The bandset on mine the weekend was 30-22mm and that's enough power to take game if you so wished. You really where a natural at it Atb Steve

This reminded me of a most amusing incident when I was a kid with a catapult . A friend asked to have a go, unfortunately he was rather uncoordinated, carefully took aim and let go with the wrong hand with the inevitable result. Funniest thing ever. I still remind him of it now when I see him.

An easier way to make lead is to swage the lead balls no need to heat up with fumes etc just a lump of steel with a hole the size you want the lead bored through it then 2 bars of steel same size with a half moon bored into the top of each one shove one bar into the steel from the bottom drop a square of lead cut from lead flashing or pipes I use a guillotine then put the other bar on top of it and hit it with a hammer till it squashes lead into a ball you can do a lot very quickly put a bit of oil onto the top of the bars to stop the lead sticking when you remove it.
