That floor was one massive effort and the people who contributed to help you should be mentioned forever by name rather than "concrete friends"..... they, Terry & Eric and everyone else, are forever part of your story too! Not criticizing, just honoring the angels!! The two of you are doing great work on the house as well as the story telling in your videos! Love Buggaboo especially!! I love this video guys! Eric and Teri are a Godsend, amazing foresight and experience on his part. I'm in Public Works and in my job I've stuck my fingers in just about every part of your project from start to here and I'm totally impressed with how you've progressed from day 1 chronologically to where you are now. You're both naturally adept at figuring out your troubles and Macguyvering your way through difficulties. You are both charismatic and kind to your friends and acquaintances and it's served you well. A very unspoken skill in your thrive and survive thus far is good ol' plain and simple, "being nice"! Keep it up guys. I'm vicariously building my homestead through you...until I actually get to do the same someday! More....

With the pitch of your plumbing waste lines: I have a 24'' level w/ a 1/4 '' nut taped to it for 1/8" fall or a 1/2" nut for 1/4" fall taped to the very end of the level. The one you had w/ 1/8" & 1/4" fall was good as well. Love your channel & have followed it from the beginning. I like the way you take the time to do it right, no short cuts. Bruce

I hope he's going to cut an expansion joint along the length of that apron and use some sort of thermal break in the cut, otherwise, come the winter it's going to act as a giant heat sink for the radiant heating.

Hope your pour went well, and look forward to seeing the video. BTW I truly appreciate all the extra time and work that goes into being able to show us your build. I’ve watched the entire build, and your doing just as you said and showing us everything, no matter if it’s good or bad. This is what people should see whenever you watch something that claims to be a reality show or channel. It’s unfortunate, but it’s rare to find one that isn’t staged ,scripted or edited to hide any mistakes. Thanks

With the re bar and slab going from the inside (heated) floor to the outside without a heat break you have just made a very good heat sink outside and the same goes for the slab touching the concrete all along the walls , they will wick heat away from the heated floor , the way this system is made it will take a enormous amount of energy to heat
@stevenhardy2898
@stevenhardy2898 7 жыл бұрын
It will also have a huge amount of thermal lag. Slab heating systems are useless if you want to do thermal setbacks ... there was a time with steam heat that they used cast iron radiators. There is a reason they became obsolete.
@jpvain
@jpvain 7 жыл бұрын
Was just about to say the same, it should be insulated from outdoor space with a heat break, to avoid cold bridges to form especially in cold climates

A compressible joint filler added where the exterior apron abuts the garage slab would be desirable because of the temperature differential between exterior and interior concrete slabs can cause "creep" influence on the garage structure and possible concrete cracking.

It not being insulated will also limit the effectiveness of all that in slab heating.
@airbubba

Yes, perimeter thermal insulation in that climate is very effective.

Normally, yes, but I didn't observe the joint filler being placed during the prep before placing concrete. Hopefully, it was done in the process, as you say.

Hi i have over 35 years in the concrete flat work business and had to point out the big mistake made in my opinion ,is that the apron should have been poured total separate from the inside slab because of frost heave out side will lift yr slab up , if i were you i would def cut the apron completely through rite at the out side edge of yr wall so if the frost heave yr apron it wont damage yr inside floor . hope this helps

Usually air is used instead of water to avoid soaking the polystyrene insulation in case of any leaks. Wet polystyrene is bad insulator and it takes ages to become dry again once built in. (By the way, they are missing a foil on top of the insulation, to avoid water of the concrete entering the insulation.)

Believe or not, in my 2nd world country this building quality you can see on this video is unacceptable. There is always a thin foil on top of the insulation below floor heating. Its only purpose is to keep the insulation dry. EPS (expanded polystyrene) can absorb water. Once the concrete sets and is covered with ceramic tiles it has little chance of loosing that water as it is also closed from the bottom by the vapor barrier. cdn.blog.hu/gr/grussgott/image/Futes/Padlofutes03.jpg You can also put there a reflective foil, then it will have double purpose. By the way, they made several other mistakes, it is really hard to watch, because many of them would be easy to avoid.
