Great and obvious idea in relation to the property's location. Just watch the neighbors look on thinking, "wish I had done that!", when the floods hit. Has for the planting/landscaping, how about designing and commissioning some large black planters that are suspended below and sit just below the exterior deck and glass, but above the 'flood water level?....it would definitely visually connect the house with the surrounding lawns etc.

And there are enough plants that withstand regular floodings (a lot of salix for example). So they could use those to at least create some structure and shadow in the „garden“.

Alot more houses whether they are in floodplains or not should be built raised up from the ground like this as a protection against flooding which is almost certainly going to happen more often with climate change.

Old buildings/castles with Many steps in the front porch was for thesame purpose, to elevate the building above 100 year floods because if the building lasts long enough, it is just a question of when

It’s a lot more expensive to do this though and probably not as safe in earthquake prone areas.

@@rachelcookie321 There are plenty of houses on 'stilts' here in very earthquake prone Japan. Not an issue thus far, although Japanese building regulations have strict requirements for a building to be earthquake resistant and there is a lot of know-how here as there is in New Zealand.

I used to live on this road, our neighbour over the river ‘lost’ his car 3 years running, it’s no joke. Our car port was raised so we never had a problem. Most of the time you could get out in a real 4X4 but sometimes you had to keep the car at the station and go out by boat. I used to drive my Dad across the field in my little rigid inflatable boat to take him to the station to go to work.

Cars go into the garage when the floods come. So the garage has a floor that raises above the water level? Would anyone in their right mind buy that should it ever come onto the market?
@andrewjones-productions

I like it! Although, I think that I would have created a parking platform with a ramp up to be able to park the car not only next to an entrance to make carrying in the shopping easier, but also for somewhere to put the car out of a flood's harm. It could have also been used in conjunction with a kind of jetty that would that would in normal weather be enjoyed as a kind of walkway or mini garden pier if you like. Most likely they park their vehicle on higher ground nearby at such times and use the boat to ferry between home and vehicle which is probably a lot cheaper than what I have suggested. A LOT cheaper.

This is the style I admire the most. Mies Van der Rohe vision changed the world for the better. I just wouldn't want to have been one of his clients. A bit of on point (possibly the point being cliché) furniture mixed with a soft old chair. But there's a little too much of, "we simply must have (insert the expected furnishings list)" but perhaps they're sincere, and it isn't about anything besides just liking Eames, Le Corbusier - Perriand, Castiglioni bros, Saarinen etc.,. Though they're not short a bob or two so perhaps they're original, so are investment pieces. Okay, I'll admit to a bit of modernist envy but there's an art deco piece that caught my eye as well.
