You make a great point with the arrow straightness on shorter draws. Shooting 6.5mm easton arrows at .006. With the 28” draw I have got 2 dozen arrows down to .001 with the exception of 2 that ran out at .003.

You should clamp down the jig so you can push the arrow nock down into the nock receiver while putting on the vane. The pressure from the clamp pushing laterally against the shaft tends to pop out the nock from the receiver.

For me, Personally, putting on the vinyl and fletching is my favorite part.. As it is...AJJ in 20min. put together a great and informative Vlog. Because of Avg. Jack. I've taken on building and tuning mine and my daughters arrows. I have my hands full this season. 14y/o, she is bigger and stronger than last year. What 10 months of volleyball, strength and conditioning can do for a teenager.

As Dustin said” buy American “! Folks it’s so important that we all buy everything we want or need made in AMERICA products. Yes, I know most, not all , arrow shafts are made somewhere overseas. As I understand it years ago there was a 100% import tariff on arrow shafts which effectively DOUBLED the sale price. Then that tariff was eliminated but the arrows didn’t drop in price by any %. Does anyone remember this?
@DustinApple

Only Easton is still made here. i believe tariffs still exist on the raw materials. all forms of taxation is theft.

All tariffs and federal excise tax still apply to arrow shafts, and those have effectively doubled since Covid especially.

I’ve found that hot melt doesn’t work to well on the short aluminum inserts but is fine on longer inserts, I believe it has something to do with the length of the insert.

I have been using the orange stuff and it works.... but it's not my favorite that's for damn sure.. firenock epoxy was amazing but takes 24 to 48 hrs to cure.. I don't want to wait that long haha we got arrows to shoot! I never seen them vanes before. I'm gonna check them out now! Thanks for the video!

I tried the Bohning Diamond vanes and foudn them to be too soft and rip easily, just like the AAE Hybrids. I'm really liking the AAE Max Stealths I got from you so far, and also am trying out the Max Hunters. So far I like them both better than Blazers, but not sure if they're better than the trusty Q2i vanes.

I have a question that may also be a video for you to do, if I buy a new bow and set of arrows, which do I need to tune first? The bow or the arrows? And how do I tune one without the other being right first? I ask this as I live in the outback and am going to have to do it all myself. Keep up the great work. Great channel. 👍

Give the Bohning Bolt Vanes a try :) I'd like to see a video on the Bitzenberger Jig... I would like to get one but I have NO CLUE which one to order. I don't shoot feathers. I generally use Blazers or the Bolts.. I use both a compound and a xbow.. I don't fletch straight or a super hard helical, but I who knows in a few years... Just a good starting point would be great... Thank you.

I agree with you on most parts but never do I agree with you on the durability being the same in the same I snapped Eastern access like there is nothing they break going in targets you hit them in the butt they break An arrow that is super durable is a victory vap and A-day 6 I have not broke one of them the day 6 is a little bit heavier but the Victory vap It's this bullet proof I think I broke one maybe I'm like 4 dozen of them and I think I broke 1 And that was from hitting the deer leg on a target it blew up it blew up and then actually blow up it broke off at the end toward the knock from the hard wobble

Fellow 31” draw here, how would you decide between a 250 and 300 spine when shooting about 200gr up front? Probably going BEA Carnivores 30.5” shaft out of Traverse 31/63. Is shooting both bare shaft through paper with 200-225 field point to pick? Also, what’s the difference between hot melt and cool melt (I’ve always used bohning cool melt - thinking of using a different brand stock insert as BEAs have pulled out in targets). Thanks!

I've been using Bohning Heat vanes with a pretty high helical and they guide my two blade, single bevel really well. I've only done my own vanes. Next year I wanna get into doing the inserts and cutting as well. What do you recommend for cutting arrows? Are there cheap options from Harbor Freight that will do the trick?

If you use left helical on your vanes, doesn't the screw-in point come loose as you keep shooting the arrow?
@averagejackarchery
@averagejackarchery 2 жыл бұрын
I apply a little bit of string wax to the point threads to keep them screwed in place easier. They'll all rattle loose eventually with a left or right helical.
@ParasitikOne
@ParasitikOne 2 жыл бұрын
You can also use a couple wraps of Teflon tape (from the plumbing aisle at the local hardware store) on the threads and that seems to hold the points/Broadheads in place for a little longer.

Typically, other than just getting clearance, how far up from the nock should the fletching be? I have been using the Arizona ez fletch and feel that it brings the vanes back a little too far for me. Great Video Nate!! I'm curious which fletching jigs are easier to clean up and maintain,plastic ones or metal such as the blitzenburger?
@averagejackarchery
@averagejackarchery 2 жыл бұрын
Oh in that regard metal ones. Things like chemicals and acetone based cleaners have no effect on the metal.
@stick__shooter
@stick__shooter 2 жыл бұрын
I'll add, while generally the metal jigs like the Bitz are easier/simpler to clean, the Arizone EZ Fletch jigs are made of a material designed to withstand acetone for cleaning, and give you a really nice helical even on shorter vanes if you use the Mini Max. Plus you can fletch 3 at one time, which is really nice if you don't have a lot of time.

Have a serious question about vanes. Does it really matter? If it did then I feel every indoor shooter would be using the same one. Every outdoor ( normal 3d) ….. all use same . But they don’t, which leads me to believe that it doesn’t matter . Tac driver’s are no better than silent knight, aae, xvanes….. none of them are better or worse than another. No difference that is detectable in any parameter given the same shooting situations. Is it really just all marketing?

Thank you for sharing. With the Easton AXIS shaft and the HIT insert, do you know if some type of adapter is placed at the end of the shaft or do the field points go directly against the carbon shaft?
@averagejackarchery
@averagejackarchery Жыл бұрын
Field points, 17/64 size, go right up to the carbon. Easton does sell BAR (broadhead adapter rings) for the axis and fmj that give a flush broadhead fit, but they're not required whatsoever. Check Easton website on the axis for more information about BAR.

@@averagejackarcheryThanks for responding. I’m just starting to assemble my own arrows and there is are so many techniques. I’m wondering about the hot melt on carbon shafts. The possibility of damaging the shaft vs the ability to make changes to the arrow, reuse parts? It seems you prefer epoxy?

@@averagejackarchery Dive into it a little, broadheads alone would make a good video. Last I heard hunting was a 6-7billion$ industry. majority of that goes to countries that don't hunt. Most don't understand how corporations work. As a shop owner you will be under a microphone though.
@averagejackarchery
@averagejackarchery 2 жыл бұрын
@@DustinApple There's a reason I carry Wasp, Magnus, and Grim Reaper in my store: all they do is make broadheads and right here in the USA. But, for some parts of the sport, it's darn near impossible to get American made. Easton makes great arrows, but nothing that is fully carbon. It's either a fiberglass composite or aluminum-carbon composite. EPA regulations. Stuff like that. Not secretive, just simple observations.
