You made it work. Will be interesting to see how you set up rain barrels. Like how you are willing to experiment to find the best option. Would like to see a closer view of the clamp you made for the rollup pipe. What are your plans for the ends? Wait until it gets cold to close them up or roll up on the back and door on the front? Probably a number of possibilities. Something for another day. Take care and God bless.
@sam-and-angela4 жыл бұрын
The clamp is literally a woodworking clamp called an "F Style Bar Clamp". It was the quickest thing I could find when the storm blew in quickly and worked great. The ends will not roll up completely, but have windows and doors framed that open/close. I think they will be more durable and versatile for us. We also have some heat-powered vent openers that will be incorporated into these windows/panels too.

If you crank the pipe the other way, it will not hold/catch water when it rains. You have plenty of barrels already to collect lots of water for your plants and other uses. Some soap makers use rainwater when making soap, which you may already do.

What about a thin flat strap or webbing, like from an old ratchet strap, screwed to the pipe and folded over to cover it to keep plastic from catching, and run up the inside secured the same way and add stability to the pipe? Would the length needed be too bulky when the side is up?
@jesusislord24574 жыл бұрын
It works; so that is a reason to cheer you on! Do your happy dance, my friend. One question, I saw a DIY greenhouse a few years back that the builder put pvc washers on every screw. I never asked why it was done that way and wonder if you have any idea for what the purpose was. God bless you and your sweet family. XOXOX
@sam-and-angela4 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much! Yes, I think I know why they would have done that. The large washer spreads the holding power of the screw head over a larger surface making it harder for the plastic to pull loose. It's the same concept as button cap nails with house wrap or roof underlayment. That last sentence is foreshadowing to our near future, BTW!!! 😊😎👍
@joebiker84664 жыл бұрын
Great job. I rigged up a roll up wall using tarp , I used Electric conduit but PVC could work if you add sum weight inside. Anyhoo I use small pulleys and cord like on a roll up. Blind. Just secure one end of tha cord at tha top inside come down and under tha pipe and back up to tha pulley. I use 2 pulleys for 10 ft tarp.Mines 12 ft high .l have two cords too pull and it rolls up nice and tight.I been using it fer 10 years in tha winter to keep snow off my back porch.works easy fer Ole Lazy Geezer who hates snow on porch Cl;-(p)
@bigdteakettle89894 жыл бұрын
I think you could stiffen your PVC roll up pipe by cutting the pipe into 4 sections and fitting back together with couplers. That should keep your roller from having a mind of its own and be a lot lighter than a chain top rail. Does the plastic sheeting have any type of hail resistance rating?
@sam-and-angela4 жыл бұрын
It is listed to be resistant but no specific hail rating. That being said, there is a lot of technical info on their website and it is very strong! Hope this helps! www.agtec.com/agtec-super-strength-clear-woven-greenhouse-film-12mil-per-sq-ft.html

Sam have a look over at Lumnah Acres here on you tube he has just recently built one of those hoop type green house but he made his own roll up sides which he uses a battery drill and a hook to roll it up, very clever and works well, his greenhouse is quite a bit bigger than yours but perhaps you could adapt his idea to suit yours, if you are using those blue barrels to store the water in then try to have them feed from one to the other down the line, then joining both side together to the outlet.

The Lexell got me to wondering if it would fix a problem that I have ?? I have a wooden shed sitting on concrete- - that is at the bottom of the hill . There are sprinklers on the hill and when it rains hard, my shed floods on that side .... Sam, do you think Lexell would work better than the Flex Seal that I used ? ( or did I miss a section ? Or not apply it heavy enough ??? I’d be interested in your input there ..... 🙏

Some thing to think about on you rain water collection system I’d to take a 1 x 4 and cut the roof pitch in it down the middle ( making 2 pieces) and mounting that underneath the roofing plastic to creating a lip. Then mount the gutter underneath the 1 x 4 for the rain water to fall into the gutter. Great job and I like your homestead and vlogs.
