@garciarockandwater9 жыл бұрын
Mitchell Henderson Well, over the years I have purchased liner from several manufactures/distributors. I will list some places that I have acquired liners: 1. EPDM Rubber liner from Firestone Specialty Products, Ewing Irrigation or Aqua Flo Irrigation. 2. PVC liner from Colorado Lining International or Melco Linings. I prefer using the rubber liner.

@vanderley310 жыл бұрын
I am very intrigued and interested in being able to create a 1-2 acre "natural appearing" pond or "mini-lake" filled with natural occurring plant life, algea, etc, on my property. I would like to be able to stock it with fish like bass or other sunfish, and have a dock or two for recreational fishing. I believe I have the budget for the project ($100-300k) -- but is this possible to do? How will I be able to fill such a large area with water? This is a serious inquiry, thank you.
@garciarockandwater10 жыл бұрын
Dear vanderley3, It sounds like you would be able to create a pond with your allocated budget. As for filling it with water, depending upon where you live, consider investigating the possibility of drilling a well on your property or, as people around here have been doing lately due to the situation caused by drought, buy water from elsewhere and have it trucked in. Those are the only alternatives that I know about aside from using your local municipal water supply source. All the best to you with your endeavors!

Too close to that hill, will have mud slides. And all that room on the other side. Do they think before they build stuff? In one of the office building's where I used to work at, they took an Entire Empty Floor, placed cubicles with desks and chairs but forgot to run the phone and cable lines to them all. Over 100 cubicles.

@garciarockandwater11 жыл бұрын
The sides of the pond are sloped a bit and the concrete has a semi-rough texture for a better grip and to help prevent slipping. there is a "safety shelf" built all the way around the pond interior as well. No liner is exposed to the sunlight.

Why put pond liner in if you're going to cover it with concrete?
@dereklippert59474 жыл бұрын
@@garciarockandwater why the concrete?
@sfbluestar9 жыл бұрын
1. How long will the liner last? 2. Why is concrete needed? 3. What the hole in the middle for? 4. How to estimate cost for doing this?
@garciarockandwater9 жыл бұрын
sfbluestar 1. I believe the liner has a 20 year warranty. 2. I like to cover the liner with concrete to protect it, keep the liner in place and for easier pond cleanings without damage to the liner. 3.The deep spot in the middle is a place for the gravel filter. 4. Estimating can be tricky and time consuming. When estimating, a person needs to consider many, many factors and a professional is someone you would want to have help.

Bruce Garcia Thank you for the information. I have a 100 acre land and I want to build a small river on it. The river will be about 1000' long and 15' wide, about 3' deep. Actually the river is longer than that but it will be divided into sections due to grade of the land, and the above is the longest section. Is it possible to get one continuous piece of liner specifically for my shape?
@garciarockandwater9 жыл бұрын
sfbluestar Sounds Awesome! My suggestion for you to consider is to think about having a reservoir at the end of the river with the capacity to contain the surplus water if the power ever shuts off or you will lose a lot of it. Have fun!
@garciarockandwater9 жыл бұрын
sfbluestar It may be possible to get one continuous piece but I think it would be too large and difficult to handle. I think it is manufactured in panels that are 100' long by 5', 10', 15' etc. wide up to 50' wide.
@garciarockandwater11 жыл бұрын
Cheaper, probably, yet this pond was designed specifically as an Ag-pond/Irrigation reservoir. Water is drawn out of the pond through a bed of gravel which acts as a sort of filter and is gravity fed to the pump station which has additional micron filters to help prevent the drip system from clogging. Clay would produce silt and harbor algae. Concrete floor and walls are easier to maintain. I was a subcontractor/consultant working with the General and Property Manager. I wasn't privy to the $

So, the pond is periodically drained and the concrete is cleaned of algae, etc. Is that what you mean when you state that concrete floor and walls are easier to maintain?
@garciarockandwater10 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is it precisely. Because this is used as an agriculture irrigation reservoir, a lot of water is used for the avocado orchard and it takes a while for the wells to fill the pond back up. I am not sure how often is it is drained completely - if at all.

@garciarockandwater10 жыл бұрын
James, The property where this pond was built has three wells on it and storage tanks. The water is used for irrigating the avocado orchards. The pond was built as an additional water storage reservoir. The final landscaping was done with pathways, patios etc., and done in such a way so the owners could enjoy the pond while having BBQ's and whatever.

Nice job, but I think I would have used 40 grade rebar and tied it 9 inches on center instead of that "net". Your located on a mountain ridge and the ground shifts quite a bit. You did good by shooting in the shotcrete to increase it's industrial strength but it is still only 4500 psi. By the looks of the concrete I can tell you didn't allow it to dry for 30 days, so I know it's strength is only at 80%. I have a mixture of concrete that I have tested with a specific ratio mix of different materials that has tested at 9800 psi...

For that size and for the kind of money, wouldn't it be cheaper to use clay rather than liner? Also what is the most expensive part of a project like this? The excavation? Labor? Thanks!
@Country_Gentleman5 жыл бұрын
A pond like this is financially out of reach fo 99% of land owners..This is a glorified swimming pool , not a typical pond. Just the labor cost would exceed the budget of most landowners, not even including the equipment rental or concrete...just sayin.
