I constantly deal rusted and gummed up fuel /gas tanks that can be a pain to get clean so let's take some time to build a machine that will help in the repair process, and we can build it out of junk that is laying around.

Daughter was into collecting and painting old railroad spikes. Just throw them in my mixer with sand. Noisy as hell but works.

Love it for myself, but Mustie1 doesn't spend money if he can do it himself. And I didn't think it was going to work. He impressed me.

A guy in my vintage bike club built a tank tumbler and it works a treat. Think portable cement mixer. He puts about a litre of water and a handful of fish tank gravel in the tank, seals it with a big wine stopper and let’s it go for 2-3 hours before changing the fluid. Tanks come out absolutely like new.

All the people saying "use a cement mixer" don't have the right mindset. Mustie made a contraption that works, is customizable and was made using things he already had laying around. Absolutely amazing. Oh and an addition that might be useful is a form of variable power supply so that you have more control over the speed since it's still a little on thr fast side.

Necessity is the mother of invention. I have used a cup of coarse sand and a 6" air nozzle. Dump the sand in the tank and chase it around with the air nozzle. Cover the opening with a rag to trap the sand but let the air out. It get's into the corners were other stuff does not. Finish the job with Red Coat fuel tank liner.

Another brilliant video Darrin Rusty fuel tanks - electrolysis - I bet you already have everything needed to hand (battery charger, some scrap metal and some soda crystals) Works wonders - and keeps rust from forming afterwards... Worth trying after you have put it on that machine which should be fine at getting the crusty lumps out first

Nice work mr musty👍 my liquid of choice would be EVAPORUST. IT'S a bit pricey but can be reused. Spin the tank dry for a while to remove the chunks then apply the liquid to clean and restore the good metal.

I guess you could also use this for welding if you swap the plywood out for a steel plate with countersunk holes so the bolts are flush. stick a part in the middle, turn it on, weld your round part all the way? maybe useful for spinning a wheel and making sure its running true? with that attachment point you can probably come up with all sorts of fixtures to bolt on to it instead of the wood and do whatever you need to do with it

I used fiberglass resin to coat inside on motor cycle tanks . Sharp rocks gravel to use inside with Calgon dish washer liquid hot water and shake for an hour in all directions. Then I dry it and used muriatic acid and phosphorus acid . Then wash with water baking soda. Then alcohol to dry out next to a heater . When bone dry I mix fiberglass resin and put in tank and rotated it all directions to get resin on all surfaces . Held up good for a few years now. Ps, My old OSSA motorcycle has fiberglass gas tank from 1970s still perfect. Hope this helps people.

Get some vibratory tumbler media to put in the tank. It is usually a ceramic that will polish the surface and remove the rust. It would be a little quieter too. Mix in some hot evaporust with it.

Hey Mustie you could have made the motor adjustable and by loosening the belt or tightening the belt you can slow the speed down ....i use to work at a plastic lamination shop and we had to change the thickness of the plastics on different paper that we was laminating and our rollers was ran on electric motor with belts and we would either loosen or over tighten the belt and it would slow the rpm downs
