Building A Mercedes 190 Evo 2 For $20k | PT4

After 1 1/2 years of not having a car I finally bought one!
I decided to go with a 1992 Mercedes Benz 190E 2.3 SportLine to make a 190 Evo II Cosworth replica as I think it’s the coolest car I can build for my budget of $20,000.
The goal is to finish the car before May 4th so I can take it across Canada for Driven Show interviewing car enthusiasts & showcasing their builds along the way.

I have discussed with TJ for the compensation refund and also the replacement of the parts we can do to make it done for the launch in time. The issue was based on the production of the lot and also the the packing of the new shipping agent which affected all the kits shipped in the lot. Again, I deeply apologize for the messed up quality. I will not have this happened again.

I stand behind Ake. I have a Carbon fiber hood, deck lid and doors and many other parts for my race 16v that he made. While it is unfortunate that the quality of these parts are not the best, Ake is a good dude and will make it right. You are welcome to have bespoke parts made in the us of the highest quality but they will be at least 10 times the cost.

Awesome of you! I still feel, if I as a non public person without a big KZbin channel! Would you have done the same for me as a customer or was this a thing because it became public about what stuff Hedgehog sends to people? Just a thought, I don’t know how you handle random customers! I hope they get the same service 😊🙏🏻 But how can this even happen? Don’t you have quality control before shipping a expensive full kit? This is more then many peoples whole paycheck for a mounth! @@Fisgrisen no, I mentioned to everyone in the same lot after I was informed for m the first guy who received the kit in the same batch and treated similar to everyone. Only difference is with or without vdo channel and the number of defected parts in the kit.

and thats why you buy good parts. should have gone for a Goeckel kit from germany. their parts are more expensive but oem quality. even Mercedes used some of their parts to repair these 190s

Sorry to say that but... The seller of the evo kit scammed you they produce this stuff in thailand for so cheap..m and you see the cheap quality the seller was happy to get rid of it... there are ao much better Chinese kit .But its a Nice project pro ,I am from Germany.Youre base care is so cheap here. I was shocked about the price.but stay positiv and finish it!

Hi. Just wondering about the safety of the car with so much rust. Don't you need a mechanical inspection to get insurance and permission to drive it on the streets?

Don’t hide the rust. Fix it. It will just get worse. For some reason, people love watching rust repairs so you have your content. Or at least cut it out where it isn’t structural and paint the cut edge so the rust doesn’t grow. If I had more time and space you could drive it up here to Edmonton and we could tackle a bunch of the rust.

I am so glad you made this video and expose the truth. I've been old Benz's for 15 years and in the community this hedgehog kit is regarded as the holy grail of body kits for the W201. Many other people out there guaranteed feel duped on this kit but nobody says anything cause they don't want to tarnish hedgehog's rep

I commend you on trying this build. I have wanted to do one for years but could never find a decent kit to buy. As far as fixing it properly, I think you need to address the rust issues properly if you’re keeping this car. You’ll feel better driving it if you know you have a solid car.

Feel like you can fix the rust for less then it cost to swap the kit and re wrap another car not to mention parting out the old car. Just buy the panels and do the work or get anouther car now.,

The German one is the best. I think Mercedes used to use some of their parts too to repair their Evos. They are close to OEM. They are expensive tho. But if you buy cheap you buy twice

The one closer to me (89)the guy wanted 1k the other one guy (91) wanted 3k for his. It’ll probably be best to communicate differently if interested, I don’t want to give personal info out.

He's not wrong the C36 was the first official jointly developed AMG car in 1993

Nah, the c36 was only the first car they went in mass production with. But they already did some work with merceses in 1971( a racecar version of the 300sell)

The 190 E ran DTM from 88 to 93, this whole time being driven and developed by a team called (surprise surprise) AMG - Mercedes !! And the whole reason the evo I and II exist is due to this championship so yeah I think this guy might want to change that plate 😅

Yeah hes maybe getting confused. People use the term “pre merger amg” to describe amg cars built before the conpany merged with Mercedes. But to say pre amg isnt really correct.

I'm not defending Hedgehog or the kit on how badly this body kit showed up and how it passed QC, but I also utilize a Hedgehog EVO kit, and I also know numerous other 190e Owners who have a Hedgehog Kit with near perfect fitment and at a much higher quality then this at near OEM level quality. Which for an EVO body kit. Doesn't exist, obviously. TJ got a really bad kit, and he and I have chatted personally about it over IG and It totally sucks that this even was allowed to be received. Hedgehog seems to have come out publicly in a big way apologizing for this to have even happened in the first place and has come up with some sort of resolution with TJ. As far as I know that is. At the end of the day. Many of us have received bad crap from shops and some of them being very reputable and known. When that does happen on the rare case it's ultimately how that shop or business handles it. Do they leave you dry or taking responsibility. I feel Hedgehog did that the best they could and overall as I'm a living witness with my EVO build can produce great kits. I just hope you can get back to your build soon TJ and that this isn't a huge set back. If you need anything and I can help you know you can hit me up. 🤜🏽🤛🏽

Dude if you plan to keep and drive this car in the long run, fix the rust ! Rust grows and it will affect even more areas and grow bigger until your cars chassis/ body is so fragile it crumbles in an accident. This literally is life threatening!

Just plate over the holes, it doesn't need to be perfect, it is all hidden. It will last a year or two, which is long enough to get some content for your channel.
